1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Calling all males!

Mar 7, 2011

    1. [paragraph]This thread is awesome yo! I love how excited we all seem to be so excited about this thread, maybe that's a sign we don't get enough love around here![/paragraph][paragraph]Me As A Dude:[/paragraph][paragraph]I'm 24, and I live in Northern Kentucky, just outside Cincinnati. I work as a server these days, which isnt my favorite job, but I can't beat the pay. Left home at 16 and went to college for history and anthropology, with specialization in ancient cultures. I am an artist and writer at heart, working on graphic and fashion design, which I may get another degree in if I feel that the economy isn't about to take a nose-dive at any moment. Right now I focus mainly on my writing, with a novel finished and about 3 other pieces being worked on continuously. I love all kinds of movies except westerns, I enjoy many different kinds of music with soul being my favorite, I used to be a musical theatre performer as well as a fencer all through middle school, high school snd some of college. Of course now I have bills to pay so I mainly just work, but I focus on my hobbies and put my heart and soul into those to keep a decent level of sanity. Jeez, I don't think I've ever said the word I so many times, but I'm tired of hearing about myself so I'm moving on...lol[/paragraph][paragraph]My Dolls: (who happen to be dudes as well)[/paragraph][paragraph]I have only two dolls at the moment, those being my first two: a Souldoll Paolo and a Migidoll Miho. They don't have names yet as I am trying to feel out their personalities, but I love them all the same and have found them to be very elegant sculpts. Which brings me to a point about my dolls. Unlike so many I simply enjoy the doll collecting, and though I haven't always collected dolls I have always loved their iconic images as smaller more perfect faux-humans. I do not view them as my characters from my works, I don't have an interest in making my dolls anymore than who they are when they come to me. I don't have any female dolls, but perhaps in the future I will get some (admittedly I have a thing for male dolls, so sue me!)[/paragraph][paragraph]My Doll Experience:[/paragraph][paragraph]Doll collecting is a fairly personal experience for me, they are kind of my little happiness at the end of the day, and my inspiration when I'm stuck, so I consider them private. I'm not sure that I will have a great deal of interest in doing meet ups in the future, but knowing myself I never rule anything out. Most of my friends haven't seen my dolls, my family hasn't seen them, and I don't plan on showing them. They get to be my treasures, and i get to be the dragon hording them away. In this way, I feel as if I get the most enjoyment out of them. So for now, my experience is limited to my own home and on the Den, which have both been very gratifying. I want to throw in a little blurb about the companies I worked with to get my dolls, both Souldoll and Migidoll have been great partners in the process. Both have been cooperative and at times have allowed me more say about my dolls than I originally imagined. If you have scuplts that you like from their artists, don't hesitate as they are helpful and as prompt as they can be with he amount of work they have to accomplish.[/paragraph][paragraph]Whelp, that's all from me for now, I'm really enjoying this thread so let's keep it up, it maybe social expectations, but it's so fascinating hearing about this hobby from a guys point of view, and I can't wait to hear more![/paragraph]

    2. Alright a man thread!

Tell us about you: A 29 year old dude in the military and I fix stuff. Because of my interests, I'm pretty much the outcast, so I hate my job. I plan on getting the hell out of this low brow job into something I really like doing, game designing. I like anime, games, manga, old WWII aircraft and lost cities of the world. I'm pretty outgoing and upbeat, unless I just woke up.

My Dolls: I only have 1 doll, a modded Dollfie Dream of Mai Shiranui. Her name is Kihona Sachiel and she's freaking awesome, I love her >=O. As I type this, she's "sleeping" in my bed right now after a long anime con weekend. Which reminds me, I need to find a bed for her.

My Doll Experience: I used to NOT like these dolls and found them weird along with their weird owners. But it slowly grew on me, only to be accelerated when I found out a friend of mine had like...freaking 9 of them >_>. So he would talk to me about them, show me pictures of his attractive ladies. Later down the road, it just kinda dawned on me that I wanted one made after a character I created and adored years before. So over several months, I looked into it and tried to buy parts to make my own, but they were always sold out. So I opted to get a Mai Shiranui Dollfie Dream and mod her a little to fit the character. Kihona's breasts aren't supposed to be that big, but I'm cool with it. No one at work knows I have one. I gotta work with these idiots for the next few years, I don't need the negative baggage that would ensue if they found out.

Manachann, a member here, is a dollfie friend of mine, and she, too, accelerated the joys of having a doll. Without her, I don't think I would have ever brought Kihona out in public, because I used to be a little negative toward doll owners, so you can probably guess that I now faced that self conscious dilemma of carrying a doll around in public. I was very surprised how much positive attention a doll owner got during conventions, sure there was a bad apple or two, but it was minor. I thought "Oh man, this is too awesome, look at all the love Kihona is getting!"

That's pretty much it right now. I'm still a little self conscious about taking Kihona out during cons, but Mana said she'd be there for me, so that's cool. And now, her fiance wants one! Muwahahha!

This was LionLord, looking for the Ultimate Truth!

    3. WTF happened to my Guy thread started 5 years ago...
Archived and locked after 43 pages...man.

See what happens when you disappear for nearly 2 years!

      Anyhow...

Super Sexy & I love my DOLLS...I have 3. Can not decide which route I am gonna go next with #4.

My experience is that most people just think they are creepy when they see them. Actually just my 2 DZ boys..."cause they look real" My Soom Sard they dont seem to mind as much because hes fantastical. lol

      I just remembered...

Guys...the only requirement of the guy thread is having a penis...not what you do with it.
Leave your sexual orientation out of it. Don't be lame!

    4. Back on track... I now just own a Soom Dia and an Iplehouse Soo, I realised I wasnt really enjoying the male dolls I had, I have so much more fun posing and dressing female dolls. I also had to cut down my collection, I wish I could settle on one but I love them both!
Itd be really cool if there was a doll meet up for guys, especially in the UK, imagine seeing a group of guys talking about dolls, Id think it was awesome.

    5. About me:

      I'm 16, I'm a dude... Umm... I dunno. I collect BJDs?

      My boys~:

I have a KDF Darae boy, named Aelic, and a Bobobie Tony named Kiyoshi. They're both based after my characters. :3

      My experiences:

Umm... I'm not really sure. I've had lots of good experiences in this hobby, nothing that would really put me off it at all. I recently got a new camera, so that's pretty awesome. :3

*doesn't know what else to say*

Ohoh, And I've been trying to get better at photography. What really got me into dolls in the first place was being able to have a 'shell' for my characters that I could photograph and customize in any way I choose. :3 I'm an avid writer, so I was very pleased.

    6. About me:
      Matthew, male p:
It doesn't matter in the slightest but, I count myself as pansexual. As far as I've seen I've only been with girls but none of it matters to me. I've been with my fiance for 3 years and don't plan on finding anyone else. I've been into photography for 3 years as well, studying in college classes and doing small photography jobs here in there. I live in Vegas and would eventually like to move to Ohio or Cali to pursue a career in photography. And again, I've been in the BJD hobby for 3 years. I introduced my fiance into the hobby, and she proceeded to get her first doll before me :I
I love writing and roleplaying, making my own characters and such. So the BJD hobby was a big interest to me because of the customization and the characters that can be portrade through the dolls.
My biggest dream is to one day photograph for National Geographic and Meet/photograph my biggest inspiration's, Matt & Trey the creators of south park.

      My dolls:
      none...sadly.
I am saving currently for my dream doll/grail doll. A SoulDoll Madalyn. I have a jar that sits on top of my book shelf that I put money in and spare change whenever I get the chance. It has a measly $15 in it but It's better then nothing. My plan is to be ordering her by May of next year.
I was planning on having a less expensive doll by the end of this year, but decided to raise the $300 more that she would be and get her, because I know that if I get another doll before her then I won't bond with them as well p:

      My doll experience:
Not much....I've found I have yet to meet another person(besides my fiance) who is as exited about dolls as I am. :/ Especially another guy.
I also have found that I constantly have a huge urge to mod and make them. My fiance has her souldoll elden and I constantly want to clean and blush him.
I have not gotten any crap for liking dolls, although I do feel awkward getting excited about them around my family even though I know they don't care.

    7. About Me:

20 year old Singaporean son, a freelance photographer who lives a happy life.

      My Dolls
      :

Volks DD Sasara Kusugawa, Volks DD Rin Tousaka, Volks DD-Hybrid Ayatsuji

      My Doll Experience
      :

      This hobby is expensive..

    8. Wow which island i am also from the West Indies!

    9. Tell us about you:
I am a 34 year old black male who is very much into dolls and BJDs. I live in Chicagoland and I find it hard finding other guys in the area who are into BJDs also. Being black and a doll collector present special challanges. Not many of my black friends understand the realm of collecting and have the kind of aprpeciation for them as works of art like I do. There fore there seems ot be a disconnect whenever i open up to someone about having a doll collection.

      Tell us about your dolls:
I own two BlueBlood dolls, Varian Valentine and Draven, Two Iplehouse EID dolls Kamau (Male) and Bibiane (Female), ResinSoul Gang, AOD Qauin (Female)

      Your doll Experience:
I am really excited to interact with otther guys that are into BJDs! I think we are sometimes an undersereved market but that is steadily changing with the increased popularity of Anime and other genre that BJDs seem to fit so well into. I have more male dolls than female oned coming from collecting other dolls that were so dominated by female dolls. no one seemed to have any love for male dolls and I think that is another thing that brought me to BJDs. The male dolls in the BJS worls seem to get equal if not more attention that the female ones andthat is right up my alley.

I would like to find a male collectors group on DOA so I can keep up with and share with other male collectors and see what is trending amoung them.

    10. i love how there are so many male doll collectors :D

    11. About Me: My name is Kyle :) I live in Western Washington, and I just turned 20. I also just graduated from a local community college with my general AA transfer degree, and I have been working at Jack in the Box for almost 4 1/2 years. As far as hobbies go, I like to dabble in a little of everything. Sewing is my specialty, especially costumes/cosplay and doll clothing, but I also love to draw and am currently learning to crochet. I just love to create things, so whether it be fabric or clay or 2D art or photography, I enjoy it all. Im a bit of a Japanophile, not so much the anime/manga side of it (although I do like anime/manga), but more traditional culture. I love kitsuke/kimono/yukata :3 They're so beautiful and fun to wear!
      Im currently trying to decide what area to continue my degree in :/ I would love to go to art school for illustration or fashion design, but ive also been looking into psychology. I wanted to be a Japanese translator/interpretor for a long time, but I slacked off wayyyyyyyyy too much in my 6 quarters of japanese at community college and didnt come away with much knowledge -_-;;

My Dolls: My very first doll was a MSD Dollzone Xi boy. I had him for a good while, but I was not very fond of his head so I sold it and got a Dollzone Ray head, which ive recently had modded and finally gotten a quality faceup done. This doll has been in progress limbo since I first got him in...2007 I believe? But I am now finally happy with him, and will probably always keep him around. I have had a lot of personal conflict about selling him, but he was my first doll, so I think he will be here to stay no matter what happens. I did have a Bobobie Sprite girl for around a year, but I wasnt all that fond of her and had bought her more because she was affordable and I wanted a girl to sew on/for, so she was sold. Im currently hunting for my next doll, which will be an MSD girl. Then maybe a tiny :3 At this point, I dont really ever see myself going for SD sized dolls, I really prefer little dolls. But you never know I guess...

My Doll Experiences: I first found out about BJD very early in high school I think. Most otaku are bound to run into a bjd on the internet at some point xD I just fell in love with the idea and had to have one. I am no stranger to dolls, most of the women in my family collect porcelain dolls, and both mine and my grandma's houses were filled with them when I was little. I even had a few of my own. I always hung out with girls when I was little, so I had my fair share of barbies as well. I was an odd kid, but I was raised by women and always got treated pretty crappy by men in my family and boys at school, so it was kind of inevitable :/ But I digress xD
Ive always loved to sew as well, but never really had much chance to sew clothing for people (especially since I was a boy and theres not much creative liberty with real mens fashion) so sewing for dolls has always been my favorite and most fulfilling form of creative expression.
I have had a very in and out relationship with the bjd hobby. I will go nuts for a while, make an outfit or two, participate in a swap, spend every available moment on DoA for a few weeks, and then burn out and disappear for months, with my doll secluded in his box. I do this with most things however (the joys of being a flighty gemini) so im trying to learn to keep my hobbies in harmony, but now that my boy is beautiful and complete, he can at least hang out where I can see him and be visually available and appealing, even if im not doing anything with him. I think his incompleteness, as well as my frugality, held me back in the hobby for a long time. Its also hard to stay interested with only one doll to worry about, but im making due ^ ^

    12. hey!, i've got two dolls, i guess all this came from my obsession with anime, i love DD's but i also love traditional bjd's just as much now.

i mostly enjoy this because of an immense sense of calmness i get from caring for dolls, changing outfits, seeing how they look. even having one watching over me, i find relaxing.

    13. About me: I'm a guy in my late early twenties. I like lots of stuff. Reading, writing, listening to music, video games, sleeping. I was really, really into anime for a long time, but now that interest's sort of moved to the sidelines as I find my spare time shrinking more and more. You know how it is, I'm sure. I still enjoy the odd manga. My current favourites are Seto no Hanayome, Berserk and Hellsing.

About my dolls: I have (what I think is) quite a few dolls. My profile has a complete list of my dolls, and I have pictures of some of them on my Flickr (link in signature if you're interested). I collect mostly MSDs and I have more female dolls than male dolls. All of my dolls have characters that I created for them and all of the characters are at different stages of completion. I like every one of my dolls for different reasons, and I'd have a hard time selling any of them.

My doll experiences: I discovered BJDs at the local pop culture expo about five years ago (I think). A collector (actually another male) was behind my friends and I in the queue to get in and I started talking to him about them. At the time, I didn't earn anywhere near enough money to get one, so I just threw the idea out. Two years later, my sister was looking at getting one, and I was earning more than what I had been, so I ended up getting my first doll when she got hers. I've since ordered twenty-five more and received two as gifts.

I met my girlfriend through the hobby at a meet up. We've been together for over two years now. :) I'm happy to carry dolls around in public or whatever. Other people do weirder things that I don't necessarily agree with. I assume most people are mature enough to deal with it. I'm still rubbish at sewing, but the hobby's allowed me to expand my photography skills and my dolls' characters give me a chance to exercise my creative writing skills.

    14. About Me: Guy, Mid 30's in the Florida area. I like gaming, video games and football!!! Not really into anime all that much.

About my Dolls: Well I only have one at the moment. Is a custom made Amir Puki. He's got the out fit, a close matching wing and the Amir sleeping face. He chills on my dresser in his own little castle.

My doll experience: My friend has a bunch of them. She also had a few pukis and I thought they were neat. She would bring them everywhere and we would take pictures of them in strange places around town. I always liked the Basilah Amir she had, he was my favorite. So one Christmas she got me one. Now I'm always looking at things in a puki perspective :)

    15. About Me:
25 and a graduate student. Also a part time photographer once and got into this hobby cause they allow me to continue to shoot photos while Im studying. An engineer, my life out of my hobbies is totally opposite. (my work is all math and tech, my hobby is about appreciating or making art haha)

      My Dolls:

I have all those in my Signature. I dont stick to any one company nor favor them as my aim is to only get those I favor disregarding their company. I only collect female dolls now as I am more into taking photos and I have little inspiration for male dolls for now.

      My Doll Experience :
I think there is three types of people that a male collector will meet. People who think you are nuts, people who think its a cool hobby for a guy, and people who loves your dolls but thinks you are nuts! hahaha

    16. hey I'm Dan. I came looking for a threat like this cause it's pretty clear that the vast majority of doll owners are girls..I knew there had to be more of us with penises SOMEWHERE around here. lol XD I have two dolls a RS song and an RS long which I literally JUST opened like 20 minutes ago. I'm pretty new to the hobby...my girlfriend got me into it though, and I gotta say I freakin love it. here's a thought though, do any of you guys ever get people asking if you're just in it to pick up chicks?

    17. Honestly I think that the Percentage of male doll fanciers is going up. It seems to me that there is a growing group that collects figures or some other type of collectable, then "Discovers" BJDs and make the transition. Thats kind of how I got started, and I've been talking to alot of people that have had about the same experience.

      About Me:
I've been working on miniatures and garage kits since 2000, so I guess thats nearly 12 years now. I'm currently going to school for my undergraduate degree, and I'm hoping to get an international relations career out of it.

      My Dolls:

I only have and SD-13 g Elena right now. I've wanted an Elena forever, but I still havn't taken the time to name her. I have however given her some vermillion eyes that look quite nice in her ivory wig. I'm planning to get a Dolfie dream soon. I was going to get one in November, but I'm thinking about waiting until the type 3 bodies come to America so I don't have to get killed on the exchange rate and shipping. I'm also planning to buy a shinydoll body once I find a head for it.

      My Doll Experience :
I've had some success so far with the clothes I've made, and some of the sccessoried that I've done. Working with cloth seems to be easyer than sculpting, and painting on this large scale hasn't been too difficult, but I'm still practicing my face-ups. As far as acceptability, I was worried that this hobby would be ill received, but after telling a friend of mine, that I was kind of emberassed about it he said to me " [Edgewood] I didn't know you had a sense of shame." With that in mind, I just decided to be open about my new doll fancy and havn't had any problems with it. Some of it might have to do with my doll. There aren't many people that can reject a volks doll out of hand.

    18. About me: Hullo, I'm Ju, but people used to call me PuMo. I'm 22 and a student of community college in the hopes to become an English professor. However, this semester includes a lot of French. I call myself gay but I'm more pansexual than anything, and had gotten into the dolls back in 2007/2008 when a friend started showing me photos. I am very much into art and writing, so they became an amazing outlet for the expanse of creativity under my belt.

My Dolls: I got my first doll, a Dollzone Mo 2, in the Summer of 2008 as a birthday gift from a friend. Since then I have accumulated three on topic, and twenty off topic in total. I still own the DZ Mo, named Jin Su, and have included a CH Bisou Ai Bonbon named Fish, and a Resinsoul Song mod named O'Neill. If I owned a camera I would love to take photos, but I do sew clothes for them and sometimes sculpt horns.

Doll Experiences: I used to take them with me on campus, and have only met a couple people who would poke fun. Everybody else thought they were interesting and unique, and my French professor even used my Mo once for an example in our lessons. My family has dealt with my eccentricities my entire life, so collecting dolls was never anything too strange for them. Sometimes other children will be confused, however, so it gives me an opportunity to tell them that it doesn't matter what gender you are, you can like whatever you want to like. My youngest brother loves dolls too, so that's something we now get to share (though he plays with my Monster High dolls, and doesn't touch the resin ones).

    19. Wth is a Pansexual?

    20. Pansexual: Adjective. Not limited or inhibited in sexual choice with regard to gender or activity.

I don't care about the genitalia of the vessel, as long as they have compatible personality.
