1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Calling all males!

Mar 7, 2011

    1. First of all thank you for your service, I applaud anyone who works in a military capacity because it is because of that work we are free to live and own the dolls we want and so on. Sorry you work with a bunch of bone head dudes but that is par for the course in the military or sports arenas. Imagine being a 7 ft black man with 6 BJDs. I don't really bring them out much as i haven't yet been to a meet and i am kind of paranoid that one of them would fall and brak. I have two iplehouse EIDs, Kamau (Lijnen) and his finace Bibiane (Felicity), i have two BlueBloods Valentine and LE Draven, one AOD Qain (Angelica) and one RS Gang (Makai) no elfen ears here lol Anywah man just wanted ot reach out and comment! Keep enjoying your work of art and keep doing what you do. There is nothing to be ashamed of. in this world of disenchantment sham drudgery, you gotto take your happiness where you can find it.

      Gheers,
      Mariano

    3. I first encountered these quality of dolls through my girlfriend. She showed them to me when I went to her house and I was very impressed by them. When I was a child, from an early age, our family had a neighbor directly across the street from us, with a lot of girls, who were avid Barbie collectors. Some years later they opened a store. They were probably amongst the most rabid Barbie doll collectors in the country and I knew from an early age that Barbie was collectible, and that people (even men) collect things like Barbie, and it would never have been weird to me because I had known of a family just like that. So... My girlfriend she posts on this forum we've been together for a number of years now. I pressed her to get a Soony from Luts because she had no girl dolls at all, and I sincerely thought they were really great prized possessions. It wasn't a matter of coming on to her, or wanting to be the guy who liked dolls in her life, it was just that I had a life experience where I could easily understand and accept them. When I was a teenager I was interested in the writings of Anton LaVey, and he attracted lots of artists to him in his life, he had a liking to dolls himself (seriously, see the biopic about him its on youtube) and seeing their myspace profiles and whatnot.. the different members, some of them made jewelry, or staged haunted houses, or whatever, they were people who liked being absorbed into their interests. So anyway, I just happened to be the type of person who related and understood.

If I had more space I would take up sewing myself. But we live in an apartment, my gf doesn't get much sewing done herself, and space is an issue. Comfort is an issue. So I never really took up the doll hobby as much as I would like to. I care a lot about the Soony that I got and feel she is a doll that my gf and I share, creatively, together. I'm not someone who had a lot of friends nor people ever really much interested in creative pursuits. My gf and I we play games together and we do a lot together. But I know a lot of gamer guys, even, do not care for nearly as many games as we do. They don't want to go see horror movies, they don't want to go to a museum exhibit, they're comfortable just going out drinking and partying, and being 'social'. Something that I would only do with dolls. Don't ask. I don't understand myself why I am as anti social as I am, but I relate a lot to other misanthropic people.

    4. Thanks for clarifying, never heard that one before....
      Cheers

    5. I was interupted by a call to dinner and had to end kind of mid thought so ya... I like dolls a lot. I like fancy dress and there aren't a lot of people who take care of themselves. I wanted to emphasize I really hate drinking, drugs, that kind of 'fast' lifestyle. Neither my gf nor I drink. I sometimes have it in mind to meet people they perpetually are disappointing, I live in Montreal, ok? This is the gateway of all the drugs, crap, that enters the USA. The weak border at Vermont, Maine, etc... the amount of people here who do crap instead of cool stuff is ... the ratio is insane . Extremely rarely, have I ever encountered or met anyone in my life who was NOT up on the clubbing scene and whatnot in Montreal downtown. It seems as soon as my sister heard about all this great 'nightlife' she just had to go 'experience' it.

This is a kind of mental gelding I never personally understood. I wanted to stay indoors, play games, particularly artsy games like the fantastic PS1 games back in tha' day the leap forward from SNES to PS1 was phenomenal, and there was a lot of cool things to look forward, lots of abstract art that you never got from movies of the time... Silent Hill, Ico, Final Fantasy VII... I would soon discover anime and extreme music it was an exciting time of discovery in a completely different way, appeal, than anyone I knew gave an ounce for. Which I found unbelievable... finding someone like my gf was coming home. She was as absorbed into extreme J-Rock, crazy visual bands, experimental and progressive, as I was into Scandinavian metal.

If I was asked by someone, does magic work, I'd tell them considering the experience I have had in my life, the people I had met, my fortunes, my 'luck', I'd say yes it did.. Dolls are magic to me. They are illusory in the best possible way.

    6. A lot of people have said some fairly highbrow things in this thread that have gone over the top of my head, to be honest, but I think it's great that there are so many other males that enjoy this hobby. There are many ways this hobby can be enjoyed, and I think that, eventually, society will move forward enough to not care about grown men carrying expensive dolls around.

    7. The family that lived across the street from me when I was a child they were a heterosexual married couple. I think that affected me coming into the doll hobby a lot more than people would expect it to. and, finding Satanism was important in the sense that those people were creative, intelligent, didn't care what other people thought of them, found their niche so to speak, and I admired people who were like that.

Whereas, most other people I knew wanted to be in with the 'it' crowd, or have lots of friends networked to them or whatever. I never liked that.

    8. I agree with you, it seems to be getting a bit 'much' and random in this thread now.
I love what you said about grown men carrying expensive dolls around! Lol

    9. How long has this thread been around? I miss everything, I guess.

I'm one of the West Coast Vancouver doll guys, and one of two who is not a DD collector. I'm just kind of your all-around arts loser; I'm a writer (my dolls are my characters, which I think is true for like five hundred thousand doll owners everywhere), an actor (right now I'm in a stage production) and a kind-of artist. Living the bohemian dream with my partner, who does not like dolls, and is an outreach worker.

I have a lot of cats. I like ghosts. I'm too lazy to fill out questionaires. Sorry.

It's a pleasure to meet all of you guys.

    10. New to the hobby and the forum.

      Tells us about you:
I'm a guy. I'm a guy that works. I'm into video games, gundams, transformers and tacos (and apparently dolls). I got sucked into the hobby by my cousins.

      Tell us about your dolls:
I haven't gotten them yet, so aside from their molds (two Migma's and Clozel) I can't say much.

      Tell us your doll experiences:
I haven't had any experiences with a doll of my own, but I've handled and been around my cousin's dolls.

    11. I replied here once, but enough has changed in the eight months since that I feel compelled to do a new version.

      Tell us about you:
I'm a motorsports photographer in my mid 20s from Los Angeles, but I currently live in NorCal. Like many people in this hobby, I'm into anime, although not as much as I once was, but I'm active in the convention scene and the cosplay scene, mostly as a photographer but occasionally my girlfriend or friends will talk me into a costume.

      Tell us about your dolls:
I have a Dollfie Dream Beatrice and a Dream of Doll E-An. I'm waiting on DD Saber/Extra.

Since many of them were joint decisions and because they affect how I feel about my future dolls, I'll also mention my girlfriend's dolls. She has four current DDs, a Neris and three customs, and a Saber Alter ordered. She just received her first BJD, an Iplehouse Arvid, and has already paid for an Iplehouse Shane and a Supia Haeun.

      Tell us your doll experiences:
I'd been around dolls at conventions for years and had never liked them. "Creepy murder dolls" or similar pretty much sums up my feelings at the time. Then, like so many others, Danny Choo and the figure.fm community got me. Every set of nice Dollfie Dream photos was a little chip out of my resentment, and soon I got interested in DDs myself. Around the same time, my GF realized that she was interested in them too. We decided to get one, and she ordered a body and head. Right around the same time, photos of Beatrice leaked, and as she was one of my favorite characters, I had to enter the lottery for her. I won her and her outfit, and in the time it took for her to come, my girlfriend got her second and third DDs, and had won the lottery for Neris, her fourth! Both of us, however, thought we were only interested in DDs, not those "weird" resin dolls. Although... well, those Iplehouses were pretty nice...

And then somebody posted pictures of their E-An on a DD forum, and the moment I saw them all I could think was "oh crap, I'm going to buy a BJD." It took a couple months, but eventually I broke down and bought E-An, and the same week my GF ordered her Arvid, who incidentally finally showed up yesterday after almost three months. That was it for our anti-BJD sentiment, and she's already ordered her second and third BJDs. There's something about resin dolls that DDs just don't have, and now that we've got them in the house, we've both realized that we both feel like we don't "need" any more DDs, aside from the Saber pair that we had to order because we're huge Saber fans. (We have somewhere around 25 figures of her and she's somewhat well-known as a Saber cosplayer.) The only exception for me would be a re-release of Tamaki, who I'm kind of infatuated with but not willing to pay market price for.

I'm sure I'm going to end up with more BJDs, but don't know which. I really want one of the big Iplehouse girls, and I like Yur and Asa quite a bit, but I'm not sure if I like them enough to buy one. I have a feeling that there will be a new one in the next year or so that I really like. I guess we'll just see.

    12. About Me:
age 20 a college student at the art institute taking up animation. I love to draw write stories play video games and chat with my significant other. Currently looking for a job so i can pay my school bill save up for more doll stuff and start my t-shirt and customizable sneaker business

My Dolls: I currently own a Lut senior delf cian who is sadly collecting dust in a box. I broke his finger off a while ago and been scared to touch him ever since. He his really massive and not really good at posing. Im just thinking about selling him all together or just maybe getting someone to fix his joints. I also want a msd doll from fairyland. Woosoo is my dream doll.

My Doll Experience : Well I discovered BJD's on deviant art and I knew I had to have one. I kind of wish I would of did more research on different doll companies. I was 17 at the time i got my first one and was naive to a lot of things. But now I definitely know what I want.

    13. Once upon a time this thread exsisted...:|

SO naturally (MODS, I couldn't even find this is the archive, what's up with that!? ;) )...

As a guy in the BJD hobby I know how isolated/weird you can feel. However, being on DOA I know what a supportive and diverse community it really is, which is what brought me back to the board!

Anyhow...like before, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for guys to check in and list their dolls and realize how many of us there are.

Please note...this has NOTHING to do with your sexual identity and should NOT be addressed in this thread.

      I'll go first...

HELLO! I'm a guy and I LOVE my DOLLS!! I'll admit I do have small panic attacks when someone new is coming into my home...

I have 3 boys: DZ Yuu (Remmy), DZ Ying (Benji), Soom Sard (Legend)

I believe my next will be a Doll Chateau Hugh...he is SO freaking adorable!!!!

    14. Howdy, all.

I am also a manly (debatable) lover of the dolls and admittedly I was a tad bit excited to see this thread! Currently all I have is a Lumedoll Lucas, but I am anxiously awaiting a DHS Spooky Jester and anticipating the release of the next Soom Idealian72, which I hope to purchase when/if they get around to it.

    15. Call it a Christmas miracle - the thread you are looking for was here all along, Calling All Males!

      All the best!

    16. I think its SO great that this thread is still around. Always nice to see yer not the only one!!

    17. Been a while since this has seen the light of day. Any newbies? Male preferably. =P

    18. Don't think so. But anyone got some new doll's or plans for dolls in the works? Since... Whenever this was last updated?

Good to keep up with the times.

    19. I have seen new guys post introduction threads but I guess they missed this. I do not have new dolls since I last posted here, but I do have plans so that should change soon ^__^. I have gotten new stuff for my doll though, he's looking pretty rad.

    20. Hey! I actually did miss this, thanks for bumping it up!

      Tells us about you:
Well this is a tough one. I'm 25, work in a computer hardware company, I'm a psychologist specialized in neuropsychology and I've never actually worked in my field.

Gamer, geek, otaku, avid reader of fantasy books and stories and I have a mild obsession with vampires, demons, goth culture and the such (not saying I believe in any of that, they're just stories, but I looove them all - except twilight of course).

Even with all that I'm a very upbeat person, even if a very clumsy and dorky one. if I was a game character I'd be Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw: a cheerleader with a chainsaw. :P

      Tell us about your dolls:
      I own 3 and I'm waiting for my 4th.

My first one was a Darae from LUTS, she is my favourite and I looked at dozens of doll houses for her. I think she's perfect as she is and I recently upgraded her to a more mature body. She's my girly-girl, all pink and lace (not lolita, just girly).

My 2nd is a Wien from Leekeworld which I know is not very common here (he's the one on my avatar :)) I love his face sculpt, he is beautiful although mis curent faceup has a very grim expression, he's my solemn slightly geeky little guy.

My third is a Little Elva Airi from Dreaming Doll. I just love her to bits although her personality is not all fully formed yet. She will be my hip-and-modern girl.

And the 4th I'm currently waiting for is a Boris from Iplehouse. I always lover Iplehouse bodies but the JID faces are too young and slightly girly for my taste, Boris will be my punk-rockstar!

As you can se they're all aspects of my own personality :)

      Tell us your doll experiences:
I first found out about BJDs when I was in college back in 2007. The first doll I ever saw was a DOD Shall and I still drool all over pics of her. I thought they were the coolest thing ever and I'd show everyone pics of her and no one would believe that she was not a real person. Of course being a student meant I'd never be able to save enough to buy one and shipping something from Korea was way beyond my comprehension so I filed away the idea of owning one under "things I'd always love to do but never will" and it sat there for years.

It wasn't until last year when I stumbled accross a singer named Kerli and her BJD inspired videos "Walking on Air" and "Tea Party" from the Alice in Wonderland OST. This is what triggered doing some real research on BJDs and how to acquire one.

My mother thinks I spend too much on them, but will agree to help me sew up some things for the dolls after I've cut out the fabric myself, she sometimes even comes up with projects of her own and wants to emproider every piece of doll clothing I own. I intend to buy her a puki or some other tiny once she is more open to the idea of owning one. She collects porcelain dolls so I fear a bigger BJD may end up sitting in a shelf somewhere.

My friends also think they're too expensive, but they all see the beauty in them and most of them (specially the girls) are fascinated by the customization possibilities, whereas more common plastic dolls they owned as little girls (like Barbie and Ken) were all the same sculpt with very little options for uniqueness other than cutting her hair.

Personally I use them for photography most of the time, and I love to cosplay my dolls. I may end up doing cosplay myself since Maxim (my new Boris) is intended to be a Mini-me, so we could be wearing matching costumes for cons... I can't wait!

I think it's great getting to know more guys into the hobby since the forums I've been to before only have a couple of guys in their ranks.
