It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Calling all males!

Mar 7, 2011

    1. About Me: I'm 26, not so sure about my orientation lately :sweat bisexual-leaning-into-gay or something. Used to be a translator, now going into the computers hardware and network field. An average geek, I guess - computers, gaming, comics, roleplaying, you name it.

Tell us about your dolls: I spent two years on watching the BJD market, until finally deciding on my first doll, an Iplehouse Theo, and now I took the plunge and ordered a Saint and a Bernard from Dollshe. I do have a girl planned, most likely an Iplehouse, but Dollshe overrode the priority list. (Event sucker, that's me.)

Tell us your doll experiences: I'm lucky to have a few lovely BJD collector friends around (I live in Israel), who taught me plenty about the hobby, and most notably, how to use that IH elbow joint. :) Otherwise... we'll see. I'm trying to learn some basic photography, and hopefully, face-upping. I like being self-sufficient. ;)

    2. Tells us about you:
I'm a 29yro straight guy a little over the normal weight that my hieght should be, I work as a night nurse in a private care home. Single but I got one 10yro daughter. Half German Half Asian who lives in London. I'm very into anime/manga (which led to loving BJD), I'am also a proper gamer who loves FPS games, I also cosplay from time to time.

      Tell us about your dolls:

I have quite a few 1/6 dolls mostly azone and obitsu. I own a DollZone MSD and a 50cm Obitsu.

      Tell us your doll experiences:

I learned about BJD when I went to visit Japan on 2006, I'm a huge figure entusiast and love collecting anime figures, while browsing shops I happen to pass by a doll shop which specialise with anime dolls (mostly obitsu and volks). After that I really wanted to buy one but since I went to japan with a few friends, they kinda stop me from buying a doll since they thought it was not appropriate for a guy to own a doll. I still bought one thou but only a 1/6 insted of a 1/3.

My mom dosen't know about my dolls, only my sister know about it. All my friends knows about my dolls and I bring them to expos. I have a few friends who owns BJD as well but there quite far from me and only meet them at expos. Some of my close friends are still freaked out about my hobby saying it's scary and not really appropiate for a guy to own a doll. But I really don't care what they say.

    3. Order a Kirill, because you posted that you don't want a girl doll. It was a Ducan that someone photographed on DeviantArt that got me interested in this hobby in the first place.

    4. Sup guys! I'm a 23 (almost 24!) year old, been married 8 months now to an avid doll collector. She also organizes doll meet ups so I've been to quite a few meet ups. I've always felt that if you're gonna be with someone you should at least take some interest in their hobbies, so I've always thought BJDs were cool. Well, one day she decides to just hand me one of her dolls that she was considering selling! It was a DikaDoll Lingri.

I'm a big fan of Magic The Gathering (trading card game) so I decided to start writing a story and with that I decided to make dolls out of the characters. So far the DK Lingri is Mizuki, fictional daughter of Jace, an acutal MTG character. I also have an Illusion Spirit Minos that will become Jace. I have plans for at least 4 more dolls....maybe more...lol that's the curse of writing a story with this hobby...more characters = more dolls! XD

So yeah, just thought I would throw in my two cents...glad to see I'm not the only dude on here! haha

    5. True. I dont want a girl....but u can do alot more stuff. Right? Ugh. But i do want a Kirill badly. And DOD is an awesome company! Im just being a turncoat in this situation. =/ but in this situation, most likely i will stick with Kirill, but stilll........

    6. @Knives : Have you attended any of the London doll meets? I'm sure you'd find lots of people who would wouldn't mind that you're a guy with a doll! I attend the Manchester meets, not very big ones.. but I always enjoy myself, and meet some really interesting people :)

    7. @claytonwinter - I really want to attend a doll meet up but they usually have it the last Sunday of the month ... And I am working every Sunday :( .... I looking if they will have a meet up in MCM Expo ... I booked my days off to attend and hopefully I can meet up with some of them.

    8. Get a Kirill if you really want him that bad..from the looks of it, you're not a girl doll fanatic and you might end up regretting it if you get one..

    9. "Do a lot more stuff..." I'm not sure what you mean there. Most stuff works for both genders, jewelry, props, clothes, accessories, and so on. Without knowing for sure, I would think there are more clothing options for girl dolls than guy dolls, an argument I have held in real life. I have a Jean Luc Picard action figure. He doesn't do anything except maybe hold up a pile of junk (he's at the bottom somewhere).

    10. I always say I'll get another girl. I have one girl called Piper, and three boys. But every time I have that doll-itch, I always see a boy I want. I said I'd get a girl for my birthday, but I've seen a boy that I want badly xD Already started his story, and what he'll look like.. I'm doooomed~! :)

    11. Yeah exactly! With guys, if your not careful and go overboard on accessories and layering clothing, he can come out looking like a girl or just bulky with all the clothing and jewelry. That and with most boy clothes its pretty much plain. but girls, you can go overboard all you want! In either case i still havent found a girl im interested in. Kirill still looking good to buy!!!

    12. @ ClaytonWinter: You absolutely must post pictures once you have your Patrick back and in full HEDWIG mode. Looooove that movie and I'm sure your doll will look amazing!

    13. Tells us about you:
i'm almost 24, graduated from univ recently. i was hesitant to start doll collecting 'cuase its an expensive hobby and school loans were expensive. luckily i got a job and that's how i started. and like alot of ppl, i watch anime and read comics, which is where i learned about dolls

      Tell us about your dolls:
i haev one dollfie dream right now, Alna. got her a year ago and just recently got her clothes. i'm trying to figure out how to build some 1/3 sized furnitures for her

      Tell us your doll experiences:
so far, i'm kinda a noob lol took me a year just to get her other sets of outfits; i got a feeling this hobby will expand much larger than a single doll

    14. @RadiantShadowz : Absolutely! My doll hobby is a little slow at the moment, but I'll definitely spam photos of her when she's done :)

@lt_sid8: If you do need any help, just ask away. I've been in the hobby for.. over three years, and there are still things I don't know. Always learning something new! :)

    15. Tells us about you:
I was intrigued by this topic. I am a male 41 years old. Although I have never felt out of place here on DOA I realize Males are the minority and it's nice to break the anonymity. As I said I am a guy 41 years old. I have been happily partnered for the past 18 years. We live in Indianapolis, with our two dogs and three fish. I am a BIG animal lover. Family is most important to me. I have two degrees one in art and the other in education which I do NOTHING with. I also have a cosmetology license which is what supports me. I am a quiet sensitive artistic type with a good sense of humor. When I have the time I enjoy sewing, cross stitching, photography, and drawing. I am a huge horror movie fan and at the other extreme I LOVE all things DISNEY! Not to mention I collect BJD'S as well as Nightmare Before Christmas collectibles. I have to say what may set me apart from BJD collectors aside from being male is that I collect them and thats it. I find them beautiful like works of art and I display them as such. I keep their original names, no story lines no characters really. I don't do face ups on them. I may photograph them if so inspired to but that happens rarely. I dabble in sewing for them from time to time. I guess that makes me a dull collector lol. I am on DOA often lurking. I love seeing what other members come up with. There is a group here in Indy but I have not been able to attend meets because of working ALL THE TIME!!!!
      Tell us about your dolls:
I tend to like dolls with more of a "gothic" look. I have slowed down on purchasing. My last two dolls Celina and Lester still need clothing although they are good on hair and shoes lol!!! Hair is probably my favorite part of this hobby. I probably have six wigs per each doll I own.

      Tell us your doll experiences:
As far back as I can remember I have had a love for all dolls. I grew up in the 70's in Queens New York and was never really interested in the things little boys were supposed to be interested in. I would hide to play with the neighborhood girls dolls. My first real obsession was Barbie. In fact it was the first Super Star Super Size Barbie doll that I longed to have. Eventually my secret playground and doll heaven was discovered by my parents and I was beat horribly. At that young age I quickly learned to fake it in order to " fit in". My Grandmother who I suspect realized I was "DIFFERENT" began to purchase me GI Joe's who back then was also a 12" doll and you could buy outfits for him. I guess it was "OK" as long as it was a boy doll. My "BOY" doll collection grew to include "The Six Million Dollar Man" although I really wanted "The Six Million Dollar Woman", The Long Ranger, and a variety of Super Hero Dolls, but NEVER! WonderWoman. Grandma did once buy me WW and was forced to take it away from me and return it. FLASH FORWARD......... I am working at a GoodWill store at 24 years old. Behold someone has donated I well loved bald SuperSize Barbie and she became mine. I was "OUT" on my own and In a loving relationship and would not be denied. Over the next few years I would up actually owning every doll I wanted as a little boy. Tiffany Taylor, Chrissy, Barbie, and so on..... I learned to restore them, re touch paint , re root hair and sew. FLASH FORWARD......30 years old Haute Doll Magazine begins to run stories about these beautiful dolls called ABJD. I read about them over the years and decide I want one. OMG are they really that expensive?????? 34 years old....Over much debate I begin to auction off some of my vintage dolls. Out with the old in with the new. And besides by this time i am quite over crowded. My first purchase from an on line dealer and still my favorite Not Doll Lab Belladonna. She was my only BJD for a few years until I discovered Denver Doll. I have kept some of my vintage dolls, but most have paid for my BJD family I have today.

    16. ]Just wanted to share. This is close to all my BJD's. I recently moved them all into this display case. I use to have them sitting all over my office but the dust was a constant battle. They are out in my living room now which I am glad about so they can be seen by more people

    17. @schrett: oooooh.

    18. Tells us about you:
      Interesting topic.
I am a middle aged (passed 50 a few years ago), married with two teenage sons (neither my son, nor my wife share my doll interest though), working as a computer specialist. Have degrees in computer science and philosophy, and continue to study whenever I get the chance (last area of study was geochemistry). I am a collector of everything from art and books to stones and bones. Interests go from folklore to string theory and quantum mechanics.
I have lead an active life, some military background, UN peacekeeping forces, have been a teacher and even managed to support myself on my small artistic abilities when I studied.
Reflecting back on some early part of this thread: I am of normal sexual orientation (I know, totally outdated), not overweight, and haven't even got a cat (although one of my dolls fill in that position when it comes to cat-in-box pictures).
Probably there is a lot more to say about me, but that will do as introduction.

Tell us about your BJ dolls:
First was an Obitsu Gretel, I got one myself, after preparing and giving one away to my godchild. After that I got an Senior Delf Annette, my first resin BJD, and I guess the reason I really got interested in resin dolls. Next was a Soom Mexcha Angel Sabik, so far the only male doll in my collection (I have sought others, have at least two more characters to fill in, but have found none that fit so far (have some hope on Soom's Idealian)).
From Domuya I bought A Marlene, that fit well into one of my old RPG characters, setting the basic idea for the collection, that is pretty heavily based on RPG characters.
Then I got Soomed by Beryl, my most treasured doll. Almost missed the opportunity to get her, but had an enormous luck when I met somebody who had bought her but didn't want to keep her.
At the same time I got a Doll-factory SoGo as well, since I always wanted an elf. I sold her later, when I decided to only go for 1/3 size dolls (the only doll I have ever sold (but she went to a good home)).
Then came the armoured Domuya flexiperennial Aeslyn, to go together with Marlene.
Then along came Rosettedell, and I just had to have one of these long-legged beauties, so I got Fir.
When Soom released Glot, I got Soomed again, and she is a great partner to my Beryl.
Then Iplehouse released the doll I could not withstand: Luna Tamer, this grey cat is the only cat that I have so far. ^_^
Then came Iplehouse Asa, and I just had to have her, she fitted so well as my idea of the Chinese heroine Lian Nichang.
From Dollmore I got the limited elf Mio, which was thought as a replacement for my SoGo elf, but had to much character by herself. At the same time I got a Neo Angelregion (Soom as well) Aida as well.
I also got a Nightmare from Domuya (might be considered a BJD, or possibly a very large accessory).
Dumya's limited Elvina also made her appearance at roughly the same time.
Latest addition is Fairyland's Feeple65 Chloe, who is a charming creature, and I am waiting on a Soom MD Cuprit...

      Tell us your doll experiences:
Have been fascinated by dolls since I was little, and have had quite a few.
The first contact with BJD's was when visiting Tokyo many years ago, I saw them once and put them out of my mind (well, I tried), next time I saw more, and think I got the idea that I must have one in the future. It took a couple of years, and then I discovered them on eBay again (searching for resin kits), and I was caught... A large help to really get me going was the Swedish BJD community, and the fact that there also where some males to talk with there, it made things so much easier to get into the hobby. ^_^

    19. Tells us about you: Well, I'm a 30 something year old guy, living the NY/NJ area. Went to school for graphic design and ended up double majoring in theater and graphic design. Currently working a bunch of different part time jobs in the general area of my education since the arts has taken a huge hit in the last few years.

Tell us about your dolls: I'm currently paying off a layaway on my first two dolls, DoC Tender Too and Tender Bee-A. I have two more payments to make and they should be here in June sometime. So that's super exciting!

Tell us your doll experiences: I don't have any ownership tales just yet but I have been into dolls for ages. I started off modding and re-making fashion dolls back in 1998 because I was visiting a friend of mine in Wyoming and got kind of bored. Then a few years ago I came across BJDs and was pretty much instantly hooked. I've been to a couple of meet ups and have done a lot of browsing through websites and galleries and such and can't wait to jump headlong into the whole thing.

    20. Tells us about you:
Hello everyone! I'm a 19 year old fashion design student residing in San Diego. I consider myself both introverted and extroverted at times. I currently live with my boyfriend of over two years, and life is good :)

      Tell us about your dolls:

I only have one doll at the moment, Sophie (DZ Aurora), and i love her to death. I don't plan on "collecting" bjds since wonderful things can happen when you take the time to bond with one at a time. I won't consider getting another one until Sophie is fully decked out with kips disks, jointed hands, blushed body, and enough wigs and eyes for her :)

      Tell us your doll experiences:

I always had a fascination with dolls, but was never allowed to own or play with them until i came out to my parents. I have lots of 27cm dollfies from volks, but i have never owned a doll this big before. But i love it!
