It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Calling all males!

Mar 7, 2011

    1. Just wondering how many of us there are out there? (though, granted I don't technically own a BJD yet... waiting for a few paycheques so i have enough in the bank to place the order, BFTF Xiao girl if you were wondering.)

So yea, if you are a guy like me, how did you get into BJD's? (just curious.)

Saw my first BJDs at school, couple of people had them, later followed a friend or two to a doll meet at AB and met some cool people, and that's what cemented the want for a doll in my head. My girlfriend's helping me with this first doll, buying the cloths and eyes and wig for me so i just have to worry about the doll.:D (she's the one who had the most BJD's at school, and the one who dragged me to the meet, though we weren't dating yet then.)

I dunno about you guys, and i *know* there's more of us out there, but i quite often feel like the only guy around who's interested in them....:sweat

EDIT: thread seems to have been moved, so i'm gonna go and answer the original questions in this one :3

    2. I had seen them over the internet for years, gaiaonline and deviantart etc, but I only bought my first and only one earlier this year an SD sized like the day after seeing one in real life.

Are males more prone to buying SD sized dolls?

    3. I think so..I currently own 1 MSD and 2 SD sized dolls. I actually find my MSD too small for me..

    4. @Nagamaki: I actually only own MSD's, for me SD's are to much to handle for posing. I'm really short and have small hands though, so that's definitely a factor for me!

    5. I think so as well, those I know own SD sized dolls, and although I have one Rosette doll, all the other 15 are SD sized, most around 65cm rather than 60...
Somehow I prefer the physical presence and mass of the larger dolls. ^_^

    6. Tells us about you:
well I'm 23, not overweight, not homosexual, and i don't own a cat. Just sayin. [replying to the first cluster of posts on this thread XD] Though I am pansexual. Idk if that makes a difference XD

Hmmm, I'm not really into the whole gender thing, but I guesssss I could come out of the closet for a moment.

On the SD topic, actually, I do mostly own SD's o.o [does this mean something? XD]

I found out about the hobby at a con once. Thats where I bought my first MSD that I...er. I mean, I like him, but I certainly love my SD's more. [I totally don't play favorites, I swear >.>;]

      Tell us about your dolls:

Well, they're all based on characters on a novel I'm writing. I think they all have their own "personality" if you will. Two of them have custom faceups by me, and three of them have clothes I made myself :)

      Tell us your doll experiences:

Ummm, well. I'm pretty androgynous, so I can't say I've ever felt threatened by people making fun of me for my collecting of dolls, I think most people in public just think of me as a weird girl. Then again, I've also only taken my dolls out in public twice XD I've always liked dolls, ever since I was little. I love customizing dolls. When I was little I always used to do their hair, and take paint and paint their faces. Totally not what most boys do with their action figures/gijoes?

    7. Tell us about you:
Well, I'm 20 in september. Happily hetero here. I'm a casual gamer who enjoys hardcore games. (go figure :P) I also partake in World of Warcraft and RIFT. Otherwise I love almost every kind of music, I read a ton of books, and I enjoy writing. (I'm just an amateur, but people tell me i'm pretty decent at it.)

My girlfriend is the one who introduced me to the hobby, though we weren't a couple at the time. :P She had brought her BJD's with her out to college, and managed to convert one of my other friends. The two of them managed to drag me to a doll meet at AB, and that's when I knew I kind of wanted one. I wasn't entirely willing to spend all the cash to purchase one though, but my girlfriend happily offered to buy the cloths and eyes and whatnot if I bought the head and body to put them in. Currently awaiting my next paycheque so I can place the order! ^_^

      Tell us about your dolls:

Well, I don't have any yet, but I'm ordering my first one soon! She's based off a little dragonling from a world I designed for a DnD campaign. Little Kaida's gonna be a Bluefairy Tiny Fairy Xiao girl. Can't wait to order!

Tell us about your doll experiences:

I don't exactly have many yet. There have been some derpy experiences just hanging with my friends and their dolls, and I carried one of my girlfriend's dolls around for a while at AB so she could rest her arms. (A decently built guy in a huge black trench coat with a decently scraggly beard carrying a doll, got me a lot of funny looks! was entertaining :P) And otherwise I've learned how to sew while hanging with my friends making a doll-sized tee-shirt. We had some good laughs that day too, but none of them stand out. Was never in to dolls before in my life, and I probably wont tell my parents about them for a little while... I just love the thought of bringing some of my characters to life!!

    8. Tell us about you: Im Mark, 26, Asian, Gym freak guy, Loves old anime, Jpop, Kpop, Fashion, Doll customizer.

Im a buff guy, but I dont care what others say when they see me with a dolls. I always bring dolls that are beautiful and somehow without even trying all of them are being appreciated by the people outside. Well, Me alone catches big attention when you see me, but moreover when you see me with a doll me and my baby (whatever I bring) both of us are attention catcher LOL. But I do find it Ironic when I see myself a big guy bringing a 12" doll...Thats why I am venturing in getting buffed bjds (as per dolly collector friends recommend that I should be bringing LOL)...Dreaming of getting an Iplehouse Superhero doll :) Ill dress him up as a mini me :)

Tell us about your dolls: well as of now I have many 12" dolls. from Barbie, Jenny to Fashion Royalty. But somehow most of my dolls has a butch feeling to it. Was never a fan of too much flaunty girly stuff (Im gay though). I always like to dress my dolls in street- smart casual, clothing. I love wearing my dolls a hoodie (im a hoodie freak).I also love dressing them up in Japanese/Korean layering fashion. They inspire me the most!

Tell us your doll experiences: Oh! I have alot. but Im usually brave with my dolls. Im really extremes when it comes to my dolls. When Im bored with a dolls hair or face, I usually reroot it to an another color or cut it myself! or sometimes I do repaints myself :) I enjoy doll make over and restoration too!

    9. I love how diverse the male community is. =) course a guy having a doll shouldnt have a specific stereotype but it does help get a good handle on how wide a net this hobby has. =)

PS just ordered a DOD Kirill!!! Yaaay im a daddy! =D me, Wolfgang and Armada are definitely happy.

    10. Tell us about you: I am Cody. 20 years old. I have always had a fascination with anything miniature. I started collecting ken dolls years ago. About 2 months ago I was on youtube and found a box opening video of a Bobobie tiny. I instantly fell in love with them and starting researching all kinds of bjd's. A week and a half ago I placed my order for a bobobie tiny and he arrived 2 days ago.

Tell us about your dolls: I have a bobobie Lucky. His name is Brody Jackson Dakota, yes his intials are BJD. I have about 50 vintage ken dolls, but they are off topic.

Tell us your doll experiences: My doll experiences have been very positive. My parents use to buy my ken and barbie dolls all the time as a child. Now I have a very supportive boyfriend. He actually bought me Brody.

    11. I'm 19. I'm in martial arts, rock climbing, anything active. I got into dolls by accident. I'm a professional photographer. I went to a convention one day and saw these "creepy dolls" and sat in on a meet just to see what it was about. I took a few photos and the ladys went wild saying it was difficult to photograph them. I was shocked because it came naturally to me.

I then kept an eye out and noticed that it would be fun to photo them and use them to help me draw. Then suddenly I fell in love with the concept as well as the art. I am now waiting for my first doll. An Illusion Spirit Minos. I plan on doing his faceup myself as well as his body blushing.

I know I'm a freak for liking him so much but hey we all have our vices. The littler dolls still freak me out a little and I don't think I could sleep with any of them "watching me"

    12. Finally i found the boys thread!! hoorah!

      Tells us about you:
I'm a 28 Yr old guy and yes I am another Gay one! lol in London
After working in Fashion for around 5-6 years i wanted to concentrate on my graphic work so now i am a concept artist for games and animated television shows.

      Tell us about your dolls:
I have lots of different dolls, and used to own more Bjd's but I still have my beloved Unoa
Girl who i adore and design for all the time.
Im big on knitwear so they usually all have sweaters and cardigans on all through the year! they must be hot! haha
Im not into making then little humans, its not my thing, but i like to dress them and make stuff for them
to stand in my house wearing :)

      Tell us your doll experiences:
Only until recently (the last couple of years) i have pretty much always had all my dolls mostly packed
away, but now they all stand together on old shelves on one wall except for my unoa who lives on my
desk. My mother came to one of my old flats and i went to make some tea but came back into the room
to find her playing with my Kira SD's hair sat on her lap! lol
I had left her out on my desk and forgot about it, but it seemed to be fine with mum so i just left her to it lol
"Dolly meet-ups" are always a nervy thing for me, i dont know why, i am so comfortable about my dolls
and having them out in the house, but if i was to get ready and go on a dolly meet i would suddenly get
nervous! i like meeting doll-people but if i take my dolls out of the house i look like im carrying a bomb in
my bag along the street! lol

so thats me in a nutshell!
maybe we should have a boys meet in a pub and have a lads night out in London! :)

Nice to 'meet' you all albeit 'virtually' :)

i think that its amazing you carry your doll around like that! i couldnt do it here, (south London) there are a lot of gangs in my area and i am sure i would get beaten to a pulp if i did that and was seen!!
good for you, you made me smile!

    13. Haha, I Agree It's harder for us men to explain owning a BJD.

But they're are other things that are much more deadly then a Resin made doll,
That anyone could be into, instead.

I Own only Animalistic ( or just strictly Anthro ) BJD's,
No one in my family will ever understand why I spend the rates that BJDs go for.
But I just tell them, People spend money on what they have Interest, In.

I already own my dream doll, It was the first BJD I ever purchased, too.
My second is on the way, already bought!

    14. it is harder to explain, but as i worked in fashion and made clothes for them, people just think its kinda normal for me to have them. A few of my 'girl' friends like them and always ask if i have bought any more of
them, i think they like it because they miss playing with their dolls when they were younger lol

i also agree there are loads of other things that could be considered 'strange' to be into! lol

    15. Exactly!
I'm into the Art business, also.
But I make Online Comics for a Publisher,
I wish I was more crafty at clothes!
I spend a fortune on BJD clothes. x.x

    16. I'm glad I'm not, I am a fashion nightmare, though I must give credit where credit is due, the people who have made my dolls' clothes have made wonderful things out of bizarre idea's (my favorites are Piper and Prudences' matching penguin pyjamas)

    17. Ah this is quite a long thread to go through ^^; I think I'll join in on the introduction fun.

      Tells us about you:
Where to start... I just turned 31. I'm kinda in the newspaper industry, the printing side of it. I like anime, comics, manga, Star Wars, games and movies. Though it seems like anime is my main focus as of late. I also blog about a lot of things. Though it's been mostly the local doll meets :)

      Tell us about your dolls:
      I mostly have Azone dolls which are off-topic here ^^; I have four 1/6 Azone dolls with three more on the way. They're kinda off-shoot from anime. It was mostly because of Danny Choo that got me interested, though what he likes are Dollfie Dreams. I wanted to be unique and try to own the Azone 50cm instead. I finally got my big girl this January, but she didn't make a debut until May because she became a part of an April Fool's joke I planned XD I'd love to show you my girls but they're all off-topic ^^;;;

      Tell us your doll experiences:
I know someone from dannychoo.com who owns some dolls and also has an account here, but that was before I had my own doll. I ask her a lot for any advice regarding dolls. It was August of last year that I finally met the Doll Meet group in Vancouver and then things went downhill for my wallet, hahaha. I am still mostly shy about carrying my girls around, even during cons. But when I get around with the group, it seems to be ok for me, lol. Even in the food court of a busy mall XD

    18. Oh my Gosh!!!!! The possibilities for a McKellen Minimee(if I were into minimees) would be endless!!!!!!
But then I would need a Patric Steward and a Christopher Lee minimee too.
I'm still at half the thread reading, but you are all awsom!!!!!!

@ racoondevil: I vote for Kirill. Love him, but I know I will never have him. Boys are much more versatil than girls(with chest). I put my elf boy into llolita skirts and dresses, and he looks just as lovely. Most people even think it's a girl when he is wearing pants.
*Zhouyu: You know, your Kirill could always say it was a his malefic owner that put him into the dress with frills, if he was asked. Just as I do :P*

A girl doll will alwasy look like a girl, a boy doll, can do both. (Allways thinking of the ones with a developed chest) If you want to try a dress/skirt/frills/evening dress/punk/I don't know any types of deco, I bet Kirril will go with it just fine. Well except if you want some big breast.

    19. What a fun topic lol...

Hey yo peeps. I'm a male, and I have two BJDs... guess I'm in for this :sweat

      About me:
Well, I'm the average 'nerdy' 22 yo. I enjoy my 'social gatherings', arts, etc... video games, blah blah anime, blah blah etc. I'm also really getting into Photography, which was the real reason I got into BJDs.

      The Dolls:
Well, I have two. Three if you count the 11cm Obitsu. But my 'real' BJDs happen to be a ResinSoul Li (Which I'm finding is a very common 'first' doll) and an Island Doll Lilith (which no offense, not my fave). The RS / BBB Li is amazing, I got into the hobby and realized I've got a major love for hands... sooo yeah the RS has much superior hand molds to the Island ... Just a random Body Vs Fact. haha
I'm currently using them for photography purposes, however I'm slowly getting sucked into this hobby and have created a slight 'back story' for them... I think... -shrugs-

      Tell us your doll experiences:
Honestly, I'm pretty new to the hobby. I've just started within the past year, however, I've got a decent photo gallery filled with the 'progression' of my BJDs... heh, along with a photo story strip with the 11cm Obitsu. I've seen some talk of 'telling people about my BJDs' .. I mean, I don't just go out and say "ZOMG LOOK AT MY BJD" but if people come over and notice a doll shoe, I'm just like "Oh yeah, tha'd be such and such's." more often than not, people usually are really interested in the hobby. XD

So that's me... a male with a BJD.
      :truffle

    20. Tells us about you:
I am 36 latin guy from texas. love drawing, sculpting, and fashion design.

      Tell us about your dolls:
I have a Luts chiwoo white skin, a dollfie dream the strung body, a bobobie nissa blue skin, and a leeke world honey. I am also coveting a iplehouse ankando since they totally look like my Second Life Av licoranz.

      Tell us your doll experiences:
Well for as long as i can remember i loved dolls.Yeah i got teased for having em as a lil boy, remember going to a toy store and seeing a barbie for the first time, i had to have one. i never sat and "played" dolls but i designed for em with scraps of fabric my grandmother gave me. so i guess my love of design came from owning dolls as a child. My dolls have always been a inspiration to me i even took em to college, least my favorite ones. i was a fashion design major so it wasn't a big deal since i was in art school. i have tons of everything from the plastic princess Barbie and silkstones, to Tonners, but the royalty in my collection have become my Dollfies they get to sit front and center. I always used to draw anime inspired girls then when i discovered volks dollfie dream i was in love there was my illustrated girl come to life so to speak. i have been designing for her ever since.
