1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Calling BJDs "It"

Jul 13, 2010

    1. I haven't named any of my dolls so far, but I will call them by their sculpt name if it's necessary to identify them.

As a example, I have two Lora dolls. I simply call them Lora 1 and Lora 2, haha. :)

I do have an upcoming one I may name, but we’ll see.

    2. It takes me a long time to think of a name sometimes. Most of the time I just go with their original name, unless I really don't like it.

    3. I agree with this! Part of having a doll, in my personal opinion, is to bond with it in everyway! Naming, spoiling it with clothes and accessories and mods, personalizing it. Making it /yours/ to exactly how you want it to look so that you're very happy and proud and so very in love with the finished result! I'd feel bad not naming something I put such hard work into!

    4. I had no idea so many people don't name their dolls / kept their sculpt name! Makes me feel much better that I have no current intention of naming my first doll that I am waiting for ^^ The main reason is probably that I am just really bad at deciding on names, never creative enough to think of something special, and never satisfied that a name is "perfect" enough. I think I would keep the sculpt name as long it sounded okay to me.

    5. I've got Crobidoll Marisol and I kept her original name. I just can't imagine that any other name would suits her better, than this one. And think, it's normal. :kitty2

    6. My mom has a DollZone Hid whose name is Hid. :) I couldn't do that myself but my mom adores his sculpt name.

    7. There's a character in a book I'm reading who doesn't have a gender and it's name is Nye... more on topic, I personally prefer to have something to call it. I used to name barbies and stuff too, but the name changed every time I played with them. That would get confusing if you posted pictures ofc, so I would probably use a gender neutral name or some kind of multiple personality idea...

    8. i hate names, i can never think of them and end up asking everyone else for suggestions so if i dont bother to ask people, they stay nameless

    9. I have and have had dolls without name and I don't call them with the company name either because I don't like keeping that name (just in one case I will, for a doll that I'll get this year, and that's because I already had the same name in mind)
anyway at the end I find a name for everyone so they don't/won't stay nameless forever

    10. If i cant think of a suitable name my doll would continue remaining nameless until I can think of one .

    11. I won't be able to do that, I think, because I have a habit of naming EVERYTHING. Even when I've just started with a new sculpting project, the doll has a name before I even made a first sketch of the eyes, nose and lips.

But then again, I wouldn't be able to keep interest in a blank canvas. When I work on something creative I need as many boundaries as possible. If I get absolute free reign, nothing comes out of my hands (too many ideas to choose from). Maybe I need the name to give me focus.

    12. I have a couple of nameless dolls, but that's because I'm so awful at naming things that sometimes it takes me months. Everything gets a name eventually though, because they represent characters.

    13. Oh gosh, I couldn't not give my doll a name! I say that in that way because my own thoughts on this subject surprises me. It's an interesting and wonderful concept, but apparently I have a mental barrier about not naming things with faces. I suppose it makes them feel more 'real' to me - more alive. It might just be the story teller in me but every doll I own has a personality and a story to go with them and a name feels like the icing on the cake.

I really do love your idea about a completley fluid doll, but apparently I wouldn't be able to do that. Heh. I'm sure a psychologist could say something about that.

    14. I have a huge problem with naming. I don't think I have ever named any of the characters I created when I practiced drawing. And dolls are a whole new level of discomfort for me, maybe because I'm very new to the hobby.

I just can't give a name to something that isn't ALIVE. It's a mental barrier.

I don't mean sculpt/brand names - those are fine and I refer to my only doll by this name, just because it's how you specify an item, a thing. In my mind there are two kinds of names - the ones that we use to define objects around us and the ones connected to specific personalities. I'll be perfectly honest here - for me, treating a doll like a living thing by giving it a more personal name would feel just... wrong.

It's really difficult to explain how I feel about this and why u_u

[edit] I've just read the post above me again (Rockin' Resin Addict) and realised it's almost completely opposite to what I wrote. It's fascinating to see how different people can feel about this subject :)

    15. I usually pick the names for my dolls and I haven't had too much trouble with it,but in one case the mold name stuck. For two years I wanted a SSDF avalanche. I would talk to my friends about Avalanche and whatnot when talking about the mold. I had done research looking at others dolls so I knew how I wanted him to look. It was two years before I got him though. By then, I'd referred to him as that so much that I didn't give him a name, avalanche just stuck.

    16. My dolls always get a name when they arrive at my house. I just can't promise that they keep the same name for very long. I have a lot of American BJDs and they really just sit on shelves...and I don't really remember their names haha. But for my Asian BJDs, they actually get names and most of the time keep them. Although...I do have a LeekeWorld Khal and I named him Xavier, but for some reason I still call him Khal most if not all of the time. hehe

    17. I haven't gotten my first doll yet, but she'll be on her way soon. I think I will probably rename her, because her eyes tell a story, and don't fit the name she has.

    18. you could choose a unisex name (such as Taylor or Sam) or you could simply give them an initial(s). I dont think I could ever not call a doll by its name, even if its just the company name. I was going nutters for a week trying to come up with Alvena's name, she's to be my first doll and I just felt it was important. But idk about just an... "anything" doll. I feel Vena will pretty much wear what I put her in, but she does have a personality thats developing. As far as a doll having no personality, I'd still want to name it. I'd just pick something clever and gender it depending on how I felt when I posted or thought about it.

    19. Most of my dolls had set characters in mind when I bought them and thus had set names, but the one I bought with no plans was a conundrum. I thought that it would all magically come to me once I held him or something, but it didn't. I bugged a bunch of my friends for good fantasy names for a male elf (he's a RS Long), and got a variety of answers, including "Lunch" and several that sounded like psychiatric medications. I went with one of the psych meds, Tandrelim. For me, having a doll I knew nothing about, not even what to call him, was like sitting at a bus stop with a stranger that just keeps staring at me and is inexplicably in my house. I tried incorporating him into my stories, hoping that his identity would come to me, but it didn't start to form until he had a name.

tl;dr Having an unnamed doll was kinda awkward for me and it was like having a stranger who wouldn't talk to me in my house, but if your chief goal for this doll is to keep it fluid and malleable to be whatever you want whenever you want, try it.

    20. Oh dear - I bought honeydelf Epi in May, 2012 and I still have not named her...she has a beautiful face-up and she looks so sweet - but she is still un-named as of yet :|
