1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Can anyone tell the difference of each company‘s doll?

    1. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Iplehouse...always.

    2. It can be difficult at first, but eventually you'll start to notice the differences between different companies' dolls. When I first got into the hobby I had no clue, but now after some time, I can finally notice which sculpt is who's. Some sculpts also have very characteristic sculpts which make it easy.

    3. I'm definitely better with some companies and some eras than others...

An old CP/Delf or classic Volks head? I can identify those from a mile away. I'm pretty good with Spirit Dolls, larger-scale Latis and Sooms, and with Iple's sculpts, too.

Any of Fairyland's more recent MiniFee girls, though, or most of the "big guy" sculpts from IOS and Ring Doll and the like? Not a chance. Within each of their general "types", they just look too much alike for me to identify them.

    4. I can definitely tell the stylistic differences between companies, although not always between individual dolls within a company. This is simply owing to my experience with Den of Angels, which has been my morning go-to for the past 15 years. On a daily basis I’ve perused the company news section, so I’ve just innocently absorbed general stylistic knowledge about all the companies.

    5. There are several companies I like so I’m good at telling which is which from those companies only. But, all companies seem to have a certain look so I think it’s possible to learn them all. It’s just harder when you aren’t seriously thinking of buying a new doll.

    6. I'm pretty good at telling companies apart (probably from the amount of research I did before I got my first doll). Doll Chateau, Peak's Woods, Switch, Lillycat and Fairyland are some of the ones I can identify on sight because their dolls tend to be distinctive. Oddly enough I have a really hard time identifying Loong Soul dolls even though I love the company. Whether I can identify a sculpt depends on how interested I am in the company or how many times I've seen it on IG. For example, I can identify Peak's Woods sculpts fairly accurately because I've stared at them a lot. I can tell a Gyoha M apart 99% of the time because of the lips. I can identify Minifee Chloe even though I don't really like Fairyland because they are everywhere online. Sculpts are much harder than the company though and part of me is always "is that really the sculpt though?"

    7. I am always so shocked how others can identify every doll ever made it seems. Maybe I haven't done enough homework, I'm terrible at it! Specifically the large company dolls. Independent artists vary so much, so they're easier to recognize.

    8. Only the companies I'm more familiar with or companies with unusual or very characteristic styles. And some popular dolls I keep on seeing all the time. Otherwise, I'm not all that good at identifying companies, really.

    9. So back in the day when I first joined the hobby, I could not. I could spot CP sculpted dolls, and Dollmore, and that was about it. Then after a few years, I got way better at it and could tell you easily what company a doll was from and almost all the sculpt names too!

Now, I'm back to having no idea. There are too many companies and too many sculpts and sculptors that have moved from one company to others so too many dolls look similar, and there are so many artists sculpts out there, and most people are inspired by their favorite companies AND companies update their style constantly....so no. I can't do it all anymore lol

There are still a few that I can pick out easily, but for the most part there's too much out there to keep up.

    10. Some company sculpts I can ID as belonging to that company from practically a mile away—sometimes even to the point of knowing the specific sculpt (Impl's older sculpts are pretty unique [especially with the forehead size] which make them easily identifiable, but not as much with their new, more androgynous/big eyed releases). Some individual artists putting their work out there also have a very distinctive, identifiable style that's easy to pinpoint out of a crowd (Simply Divine and DragonShell are prominent examples that come to mind). There are also companies where I might not always remember the names of specific sculpts, but am able to recognize them as coming from that company (Dollzone Doll Chateau—here's looking at you).

This seems to be easier with the more realistic leaning (or uniquely stylized) companies out there over the more generically stylized ones. I mean, I can tell the difference between Volks and Fairyland (most of the time), but there have been several occasions where I've misidentified another sculpt from a different company altogether with a Fairyland Chloe. Fairyland in general, outside a few exceptions, seems to blend together with a lot of other companies with a similar aesthetic. I can't tell you how many occasions where I've mistaken a Luts, or even a few Chinese company sculpts, for Fairyland. The Pukis are easier to tell apart from others their scale, but a majority of minifees and F60 line sculpts have that same generic face shape that so many other companies have tried to emulate: big eyes, pucker lips, small nose, cupid shaped face, and veering more toward anime stylistically than realistic.

But that's just me though. When it comes down to that very anime/stylized aesthetic, the faces all start to blend together for me:XD:

    11. I've actually developed a pretty decent eye for sculpts now which is surprising because I have mild facial blindness in real life.

    12. I can identify some dolls from some famous doll companies now as a lot of them got the family face

    13. I can recognize LoongSoul dolls right away, and often times girls from AngellStudio. Esp LS, the “family face” is too distinct

    14. Only with the relatively "obvious" manufacturers (like Volks for example).
Aside from those, I'm pretty bad at recognizing the different manufacturers.

    15. I can tell if I've owned the companies dolls. Well, sometimes. Some doll companies have similar styles. Doll Chateau, doll zone and dream valley all have similar vibes. But I can sure pick them out of a crowd! I can recognize mature yosds as well, especially myou's mature yosds. But if you were to throw a bunch of random companies at me that I don't look at, I won't recognize it.

    16. Yeah I can ID most of the popular companies, and some of the defunct older ones as well. Like a DoD sculpt is instantly recognizable to me, and I've trained myself to spot an Angel Region (before Neo) at a distance. Most companies have one artist, or a small team of artists, and they always have an art style. A lot of the time companies will try on purpose to make their dolls look cohesive, as a brand thing.

    17. Every company has their own unique aesthetic so sometimes it’s really easy to tell other times not. For example I sometimes mix up fairyland and dollfamily heads :?

    18. The only company I find the sculpts really recognizable is Dream of Doll (RIP :...(). Sculpts that aren't really human (like pipos` dolls) I tend to find easier to recognize too! It's mostly about having really unique features I suppose. When it comes to vinyl dolls though, I can't recognize a head to save my life

    19. I think I'm pretty good at identifying Iplehouse and SOOM maybe 90% of the time since they have very distinct styles to me. Besides those two, I would say the easier ones for me to identify are Doll Chateau, Switch, and Resinsoul. The other companies start to blur together, but I have been away from the hobby for a while so I'm kind of relearning how to identify!

    20. Unfortunately until now I have only fairyland brand so I do not know about other brands .
