It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Can she make you cry ? (Your Perfect Doll)

Apr 6, 2010

    1. Yes, this has definitely happened to me! Definitely!

When I first heard about Volks SDC Kurt I was intrigued. When I first saw pictures of him, he took my breath away. He's such a funny-looking little guy, and I can see why he's not to everyone's taste, but I thought he was beautiful. I was so disappointed to find out he was LE and from 2006 - two years before I even got into the hobby - but I started looking for him on the Marketplace and Googled him all the time :( It was only when I found Sineadmcdos' box opening thread for her Kurt, Tatters, that I discovered Kurt was actually still available from Volks! I looked all over the internet for him, but I was so convinced he would have sold out years ago I never actually checked if I could still buy him from Volks!

I deliberated over it for a little while because he was expensive and I couldn't do layaway, but it didn't take me long to realise I just had to have him, he was the doll I'd been waiting for and I was ridiculously lucky to be able to buy him direct from his company. I didn't have trouble bonding with him, it was love as soon as I opened the box, but as time went on I found I liked girls more and I spent more time and money on my other dolls because he was just perfect as he was. I put him up as a feeler on the Marketplace thinking he deserved to go and be with someone who would appreciate him and do more with him, but when I thought about it properly I just cried at the thought of letting him go. I will never sell Rupert, he's just perfection in a doll and I love him to bits.

    2. Jescissa your the coolest Mod ever ~
You leave the nicest comments , and have the most appropriate things to say !
(I'm not sucking , I swear ! I just like being nice to people.)

    3. Yes. When I saw how much my dream doll is going to cost me.
That price tag made me cry. XD

(it's a Volks Reisner by the way. I found him and thought ooh, A Volks I can lust after.... oh.. how much did you say he was? *faint*)

    4. XP Exactly !!!

    5. I usually don't get all mushy, even when I opened the box to my first doll (For those who know me personally that might come as a bit of a shock).

But when I opened the box to my original sculpt Minimee and put him all together I really did choke up. I didn't even react as closely when I was sent pictures of the mold before casting. I was actually holding a physical representation of my most beloved character, it really was a dream come true.
Sometimes I choke up a little when I'm working on his mods... I'm such a baby.

    6. I have the opposite going when I receive a doll. I actually feel somewhat repulsed at first opening. I have to dress them and then over a few weeks I get "used to" having the new doll sitting around. After this initiation period, I become much more comfortable with them. My favorite girl started life creeping me out a bit! (And most of her sisters did too.)

I do love my girls, but I'm just noting that my affection curve has never really started very high.

    7. Akieldama - thank you! I do try my best :) Shh, though - don't tell the other Mods how much I'm paying you to say nice things about me

    8. It's so interesting to read these responses! Personally, I don't get that sort of visceral reaction over my dolls. I think they're beautiful, and I'm terribly fond of them, but I don't get emotional over material objects unless there's some sort of person or poignant memory behind them. For example, I get a little misty-eyed sometimes over photos or mementos--in particular, a stuffed animal that was a gift from my now deceased grandparents. But I don't associate my dolls with any particular person or memory, so I don't get that same physical reaction that some of you have described.

Another reason might be that my dolls are not pre-existing characters, nor are they part of a storyline. Which makes me wonder--for those of you who have a strong emotional reaction to your doll(s), is it the doll itself (sculpt, makeup, etc.) that has such a profound effect on you, or is it more about the character that the doll embodies?

    9. I've only cried once because of a doll and that was when I had to let my first doll go for the second time. I knew that my aesthetic tastes were moving away from her type of sculpt, but the point was that she was a precious gift from fishcake here on DoA. A gift from someone I hardly knew, and just talked to a lot on the internet! She had sent her back to me as a Christmas gift, but I ended up selling her again because I couldn't do her justice. I really was upset to let her go, even though I don't think anyone really knew how much it hurt. But now I believe that her presence lives on in my dream doll, Kurumi, whom I have now only because I was able to buy and sell the perfect combination of dolls at the right time. I would like to think that fishcake's kindness will live on forever in whatever doll I choose to love the most.

    10. *Wink*
      Not a word.
      *Hides money in Doll fund*
      *Whistles*

    11. For me it's a bit of both.
I'm effected by a certain beauties in different ways.
A song that hits home gives me chills.
A beautiful moment in time takes my breath away.
A friend who I find generally amazing , perhaps more wonderful then I deserve , makes my heart ache.
A Doll that fits the perfect image in my head and creates a story in my head , it can be a combination of some of the above.

I'm not big on crying , I only really cry when I'm caught off guard by a strong emotion.
Which usually makes crying a unwanted experience.

As for the characters , they create their own stories.
      I'm just listening. ^_^

    12. My Rosette girl, Matilda. I saw her and instantly fell in love, heart racing, shortness of breath. xD The whole nine yards. I hadn't planned for another doll, but when I returned a month later, it was the same feeling, exactly. I'll always remember that feeling.

My first boy took a little longer. the promo photos didn't elicit it as strongly, but when he got home, I was just overjoyed. c:

    13. Look, the reason I replied to this topic was that this is a sentiment often shared on this board. There are many posts like yours that say someone could never get their dreamdoll because they don't have the funds right now, or because he's so limited etc.
Those in my sig weren't easy to get. Some, because they are very popular and there are many who want them. Others, because only a handful were made and they were sold out before I had the chance to buy them.

But these are only obstacles. Don't let those discourage you. Have patience and if you save up and have a lot of determination it is possible to get almost any doll.

    14. It happened last year when sd17 williams came out~
I cried because there's a chance of getting him but I don't have that ability to bring him home
he's just so perfect for me~heatbreaks OTL...

    15. i don`t think i have yet found a perfect doll, but when my first boy arrived i was just dieing of a happiness overdose:)tehee

    16. Thank you for that comment.
I'm sorry if my pessimism offended you.
I don't want to seem like the type that wants everything to come easy.
(Though that would be nice , every once in a while.)
I'm just kinda down because I've loved these dolls for quite a long time , but have never been able to get one.
Which I know is the case for a lot of people , I'm definitely not saying I have it worse.
I'm going to try the best I can to get a doll that truly takes my breath away.
      And thanks for the encouragement.
Once again , I'm sorry if I offended you , or anyone else for that matter.

    17. You didn't offend me. I just wanted to tell you not to give up and not get downhearted because odds seem to be against you. Have patience and you'll get your doll.

    18. Yes, I can honestly say that I become...the best way I can describe it is obsessed with certain dolls. Sadly for my piggy bank this happens to me mostly with Volks....witness the current object of my affection...Yo-SD Alice. But I've found myself overcome with giggles, or actually exclaiming "ooooh!" out loud when seeing photos of other dolls. This usually ends up with me adding said dolls to my resin brood, and then having an even stronger response to them once I get them in hand.

But really the only time I can recall ever tearing up was when I won my Sei-Tenshi "Gotham" at the 1st NYC Dolpa. I'd spend my entire 4 hour bus ride to NYC wishing that I'd somehow end up bringing home a Sei-Tenshi, and it was a long shot, because we weren't even sure Volks would bring any to that event. Up until then, I think they'd only given them away in the US once before. at the LA Store Opening Celebration. Prior to that party at the Volks Mansion, Sei-T's had only been given away now and again in Japan. It still feels like a dream when I think back on it now, and I'm still amazed that Gotham is mine. :D

    19. When I first became interested in BJD's, I seemed to gravitate to the MSD size dolls. Girl dolls. Dolls I could dress in cute clothes, experiment with different wigs, eyes, & generally have a good ole' time with. Then I happened to lay eyes on Soom's Spinel. My heart skipped a beat & I felt I "knew" him. How odd! Not my type at all...a boy doll. A very large boy doll. I had no room for him, no clothes, shoes, he wouldn't "fit" into my dolly realm. I told myself all these things over & over again even while I was ordering him. He arrived & I was overwhelmed nearly to the point of tears. That was about a year ago & I still find myself just staring at him sometimes. Don't know what it is about the guy that makes me so happy, but he's definitely a keeper!

    20. Bump for your experiences !
