1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Can you stand the wait for seams?

May 7, 2007

?
  1. No, I don't really care about seams, etc.

  2. No, because I can't bear to wait for a month.

  3. Yes, the wait and extra fee is worth it, I really like sanded seams, etc.

  4. Other (reply in thread)

    1. fuu~ this thread is somewhat old, but I feel compelled to respond anyway...

I would say 'yes', but only for white skin dolls because to me it's more noticeable, and I don't feel as comfortable sanding myself (although I have before without a problem, so I don't know why I'm paranoid about it.) Otherwise, I'll refrain--not because of the wait necessarily, but cause I can easily do it myself (and then save that $50 for more dolls! >D)

    2. no I don't pay to have seams removed, I do it myself..

    4. I'd like to fix up Bea's seams. . . I got her in person from Dolls And Friends in Bellevue, so there was not really a sanding option. But her seams alarm me a little sometimes. When I first saw them, I didn't know what seamlines were, and I said to one of the employees, "This doll is so pretty, but. . . she has cracks in her legs?" :sweat Durrrrrr~

I still think her's look like cracks, though. *_*

    5. Ahah, I thought the same thing with my Yder when I decided I had to sell him - I gave him a once-over and freaked for a minute because I thought the seams were cracks. :sweat

Neither of my dolls are sanded. I just ordered from Volks and chose to have my doll sanded, just to see what the difference is. I don't mind paying a little extra (the doll is already expensive, what's another $20-30?), because I've never sanded a doll myself, and am kind of wary of the resin dust. Almost everyone here has allergies. ^^

    6. I would just sand them myself, especially if I have to wait. :(

    7. I don't care about seams, all my dollies have them XD

    8. I don't mind seams and i wouldn't pay the extra money to have them sanded for me. If there's a particularly rough egde I'll take care of it myself.

Please allow me to sing the priases of the Volks Ceramic Knife. It is worth it's weight in gold. It quite smoothly and effortlessly cuts the seams away and you only have to give the piece a light finishing sand. I did Lex's arm the other day in about ten minutes. :fangirl:

    9. I paid Volks the extra fee for sanding and 'self-standing' my SDC Miko.

I am very pleased with the good job they did on him.

But my SDC Kurenai, that has her seams, doesn't really bother me. I'm taking them down myself bit by bit when I care.

Allow me to second idrisfynn's praise of the Volks Ceramic Knife.
Wonderful! A bad seam can be reduced to a slight seam with a couple of passes, peeling off the extra resin really easily. :D

    10. Seams don't bother me at all either, because I remove them myself. :)

    11. I prefer to have dolls with sanded seams, and while it is nice to receive a doll where the seams have already been removed, I wouldn't want to pay extra and wait longer just for that, I'd prefer to do it myself. Between the time that I receive the doll and actually get around to sanding it, I find that the seams don't bother me very much.

    12. I ordered my Lishe last year, and Luts don't offer a sanding service so I got her with seams...

      And they are terrible! O_o;;

I want to sand them off but I'm afraid of damaging her. If there had been a seam sanding option, I would have gladly taken it and waited the month x_x;.

    13. I had been thinking about getting the seams done on the next doll I order (which won't be for a while) until I sanded Tanal's seams. It was kind of fun, and I realized I'd like all my dolls to have seams at the same level, so it would be better to do them all myself.

    14. I'd like CP DID offer seams sanding, since they're horrible and I can't stand them! But as they don't, I hafta take them off myself T_T

    15. I like doing the sanding myself. It helps me bond with my doll.

    16. I actually don't really mind seams. But I would wait the extra month for the "self standing" and coating. :)

    17. I only have one doll that has come sanded. The others did not pay for sanding, I find the service very expensive and time consuming. The lines do not bother me, I prefer to spend on accessories, or save for another doll.

    18. Well, I don't mind seeing seems, they're usually not that pronounced...
But... I honestly don't think they should be left with seems to begin with.
Knowing that some doll companies sand their seems, the ones that don't just feel...
I dunno, it feels like you're just being sold an unfinished doll to me. :/
For the price you're paying, I feel like seems shouldn't even be a question.
None of my dolls have them, at least not very noticeable ones, and I feel happier sticking with companies that sand them/have more quality control in that regard.

I guess if a company is known for having some serious seems, then I'd wait for sanding...
But I'd just rather not spend a lot on a doll, and have it have super obvious seems. :/

    19. I chose "other" because I refuse to pay extra AND wait longer for something so many of my dolls come with already done. IF I happen to buy a doll with seams (and I usually won't), I'd rather do it myself and save some money and have him home faster. :)

    20. I'm really inpatient, and I can sand the seams away myself so.. yeah I wouldn't
