1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Can you stand the wait for seams?

May 7, 2007

?
  1. No, I don't really care about seams, etc.

  2. No, because I can't bear to wait for a month.

  3. Yes, the wait and extra fee is worth it, I really like sanded seams, etc.

    1. I would sand them myself to not wait longer, but seams don't really bother me that much to begin with.

    2. If seams bothered me I could probably wait. I'd be afraid of doing it myself. >.

    3. I kinda almost wish I had paid to have my Soom Goss's seams sanded out now.. I paid for the body blushing, so sanding them myself isn't a viable option (unless I want to ruin his blushing).

Oh well. My Iplehouse Isar's seams don't bother me any, so I don't imagine Goss's will.

    4. I think the only time I would be willing to wait for an extra month and pay more is if I could get my dolls UV coated or something to stop them staining (that's my biggest problem at the moment).

    5. I quite enjoy the look and finish of sanded seams and didn't know they actually existed because my first two dolls appeared to be almost seam free (Doll Chateau). Since then, my family has grown at a rather rapid pace and I clearly recollect the moment I first noticed a doll with rather visible and tactile seams and I swore like a sailor under my breath thinking I had been ripped off  by the company and they had not completed my doll properly in a frenzy to get it out the door. That being said, it's not a difficult task which I can personally achieve in much shorter order.

    6. Large, obvious seams bother me greatly, so I sand them off myself. I have never paid the company to do it for me, but if I could not do it for some reason, I would pay and wait a little while longer to get my doll.

    7. I wouldn't and have not paid for seam-sanding - it's not about time or money - I am very hands on with my dolls and do (and have done) it myself. Seam-sanding wasn't an available option on my first doll but I hated the look of the seams - so I got sandpaper and a mask and got to work. I felt very accomplished when she was done.

Besides that... about half of my dolls came from Chinese companies (LoongSoul, Angell-Studio) who do the work as part of their normal production process... and it doesn't cost extra or really seem to greatly increase their production time.

    8. Seam sanding is such an easy task I would much rather have the pleasure of doing it myself than pay someone else to do it. It is one of those details where if I want it done I'd rather do it myself and then only I am to blame for how well or how badly it is done.
Much like Kymera has said, there are several chinese companies, some of whom I have previously bought dolls from such as Angell-Studio and Resinsoul (the latter of which still required a little extra sanding work) who sand seams as part of the overall purchase of even a blank basic doll or parts rather than charging extra for this service anyway. I was particularly happy with this when my Angell-Studios Rone arrived in his beautiful sun-tanned resin, completely smooth and seamless, especially as being a tan resin I probably would not have tried to sand it myself.
In the end, seams don't really bother me that much. I am too afraid to try sanding any of my grey Pipos dolls (a Star Cheshire, 2 Charlottes and my daughter's Dali) for fear of potential damage to the surface resin and I am quite happy with them the way they are.

    9. I would probably wait, seams bother me...
      D:

    10. It's a nice option to have done. I don't mind the wait, but I don't usually get it done. There have been one or two very special dolls that I spurged and got all the bells and whistles, just because. Seam lines don't really bother me though.

    11. My DM Kid's seams are so minimal, I don't care. My BBB Apoll doesn't even have any.

I have heard some dolls come with seams that are so bad, they can cut you, but this hasn't been my situation. If I get a doll that I find requires seam sanding, then find out the company is notorious for having this issue, I'd pay the extra money.

    12. I have sensitivity when it comes to breathing those kinds of fumes, so although I have sanded dolls in the past, I prefer not to. I would happily pay the company to do it for me. I can live with Seams on my dolls, but I'd live much happier without them! :3

    13. I prefer doll without seams... Makes more realistic photos. It surely annoys me if they ask 60e and a month more to wait just for sanding down the seams.
For tan dolls seaming by factory would be required if you don't want to see super visible seams. I bough phonolus paws and the seams are suuuuper visible... And it's slightly tan.. The tan seems to be only on surface? So If i sand it myself... It will look uneven and ugly. So that's why... make the company to sand them down for you.

I had ws boy without seams... His skin looked sooo yummy♥
But now I have a delf with seams... His seams aren't as visible as in phonolus paws but but... Still visible. I myself am not willing to sand them down because i would just damage him... But I wish to get his seams sanded...

    14. Seams doesn't bother me at all, for me it's something natural and part of the "dollness" of the BJD. It is something I can live since I don't consider it a flaw or anything. But I have nothing against those who sand seams I mean whatever pleases you... :)

    15. Seams don't bother me, either. Sure, if a doll comes sanded by default, that's fine, but if not, I don't really care. I actually kind of like them. I know most of my dolls have them, but I don't even notice them because I'm just so used to having dolls with seams. It's just natural to me that they have them.

    16. I don't mind seams all that much.

But, of course, I do love it when a company sands the seams for free! I've been lucky lately, alot of the Chinese companies that I buy dolls from send their dolls completely and beautifully seam free.

    17. If I want seams sanded I will do it myself. I don't like paying the extra money for something I can do. If they aren't very bad then I may leave them but if it bothers me I would definitely do it myself. I will also do face ups, body blushing, clothing and I'm starting on shoes and clothes. If I had all those services done for every doll I owned I wouldn't have as much money to sepnd on more dolls.

    18. Seams do bother me, yes. But sanding them myself is so much more fun c: A lot of work, but its worth it!
I'm always more satisfied when I can customize a doll by myself, and to me, things like seam sanding and body blushing are definitely a huge part of it C:

    19. Eh, I'm fiscally restricted as it is, so even if I found seams repugnant, I'd be disinclined to request the service. Too much moolah. Plus, to me personally, the seams aren't really that prominent. If it were of such concern to me, I may consider sending my BJD off to a customizer or sand them myself. But hey, CrystalGirl, I was unaware that sanded, uncoated BJDs yellow faster than sanded and coated or unsanded. Guess it's a good thing seams don't bother me. XD

    20. I wouldn't want to wait a month for a company to do something that I can look at a tutorial for and have done within the week.
