Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. I named my first Dollfie Tige Rowen-Grove and then after about a year and a half I changed it to Tige Phoedru, deciding he could be the nephew of my 2nd Dollfie -currently sailing the 7 seas on his final journey home :cheer

Buuut now I've decided to change Tige's name back to Tige Rowen-Grove, their characters don't suit each other enough to be related and both were having to make comprimises to "stay related".

I don't think there is anything wrong with changing your Dollfie's name or character - I think it's worse to go against your instincts and try force something that secretly doesn't feel right anymore. People change interests & names over the years, why not Dolls?

    2. My doll is in the process of renaming himself. I heard the name Ezra, and every time I look at Tom I think, "Jeez, he really looks like an Ezra."

I'm not sure if I'm going to let him change it or not :T

    3. For me, each doll was named follow the image I saw first time they came.
But when I know them better, I can find another one (or two characters) that perfectly match him/her later.
And I always named them follow that characters too.
So some have only one name but some have two (or three!!).
It's like the actress/actor that make us call their name after their characters on movie.

    4. I changed my girl's name recently... ;;; It's kinda late, but I felt the need to because she hadn't had a true personality and I felt that her former name restricted that from developing.

      Now, I have a pretty good description of her and personality. ^^;;;

    5. I like this idea!

    6. I've changed my boys name in the respect of adding a name and switching. Lol, his name didnt really fit correctly but i still loved it, so he went from Shae to Julian Shae, Julian being a more proper name while Shae is a nickname of sorts xD weird i know

    7. My dolls are all based on characters I've had for up to fifteen years in some cases, so their names have been set in stone for years before they came home in resin form. On the other hand, they do tend to acquire nicknames I refer to them by that their characters never had when they were just in my head, so perhaps that counts? :)

    8. Hmm, I've been considering changing Melange's name to Machadiel, but to be honest, several of my dolls have names/code names:

      Shinsei/Seveyn, Azel/Azrael, Melange/Machadiel, and Atelair/Hazen. I don't have a nickname/last name for Naoto. C:

    9. I changed my girls name almost a year into having her. Orginally it was Autumn, and I like the name and all, but for some reason the two didnt click. And whenever I played with her, it felt almost forced since I couldnt think of a personality to suit her.

Then one day I was sitting at my computer working a story I had neglected for months, and she was sitting with me, when I accidentally called her Luka. And it clicked. Ever since the name change, she seems to have more of a personality and I think I bonded with her more too.

Like HairyHobbit siad, you shouldn't force it. If something doesnt feel right, like a name, dont force it. It'll take the fun out of having a dolly.

    10. I dont think it's wrong to want to change a dolly's name, if it doesnt suit them. I do tend to stick to the first name I give them though, I havent found a reason to change their names yet

    11. I get around this a little by giving my dolls "alternate" names that can be used as well as the name they usually have. That way, if I want to change their name I just have to tell people it's their other name
I'm considering changing one of my dolls name's to a different name right now, but keeping their current name as a nickname instead.

I've only changed one of my doll's names outright after they arrived, but that's because it was made quite clear she wasn't ever going to be the character I originally bought her as.

    12. I am getting my first doll soon it is a kid delf named Bory and to tell you the truth I have no interest in changing his name. I love his name and I think it suits him well, i don't think it will change once I have him. He is just that special.

On the other hand though I have my eyes set on two other dolls that I hope to get in the future and I have already changed their names > . > teehee

I think it really depends on the doll.

    13. I think sometimes a doll stops being who they once were because of a faceup/eyes/wig change. They shouldn't be stuck being who they used to be if the owner feels they should have a name change.

My Feilian finally became Raven today after being just Feilian for the entire time I've had her :D

    14. Name changing is sometimes vital to bonding with a doll, a doll with an imperfect name feels like an awkward alien visitor rather than a little resin family member!
I changed my beloved Achenar's name from Padma Luz Pran ( to go with the character of a prince) to Harvey Alexander Moon because I decided he made a brilliant bratty English public school boy. He now goes to Eton ;P

Sis and I recently bought Tatiana and Tania from Iplehouse and based our choice of names on their promo photos - Elise and Elodie (with a vague idea they would be twin sisters) - but when they arrived we thought they didn't actually look exactly like those photos and the names felt wrong. So we had to rename them and get used to them or seriously consider selling them on again. They are now Calliope Violet Thorn and Adelphi Rose Thorn and we love them to death; Thorn is because they are going to be the twin cousins of the gorgeous teenage Antichrist Damien Thorn (We've seen a perfect Soulkid to be Damien).

    15. I don't see a problem with changing a name. My dog's name was "Curly Sue" when we adopted her and we changed it to "Fifi." If she can adapt, I'm sure a doll can. LOL.

    16. I can't change the names of my dolls - it's a part of their identity. But if I ever had some other names for them, I would simply add them to their old ones.

    17. I think it's alright to change their names. I mean even humans change their names from time to time so I think a doll's name would change with time too. I've just gotten mine, so cann't say if I'd change their names (^^)

    18. The only doll I have that has had several name changes is my Bobobie Elfkin - for some reason I can't seem to figure out what she wants to be called. She started out as Ingrid, then went to Grace, Parisa (don't ask), and now Arielle (who knows how long she'll be that). Oh well... time will tell.

    19. I write, so I have a bunch of characters floating around my head. I've already planned to buy dolls to represent them, so there definitely won't be any name-changing.

Once I've obtained a doll for each character (4-5 for sure, though I'm not positive I'll even be getting THAT many) and start buying dolls without a pre-existing character to be, I'll have to get creative then. I'm sure I'll go through more than one name change.
