Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

1. My dolls are based off characters that I have created and deigned over a vast amount of time, so generally no, I don't changes names. The only time I did change a name was for my Volks SDC Kurt he changed from Kale Caspian to Marix Kale Caspian. The name 'Marix' better suited him, but his character and personality stayed the same... (I still find myself calling him Kale sometimes.)

2. I changed my girl's name a couple times, they never really stuck until I found the right one. I'm a libra also :sweat A perfectly legitimate reason!

3. I don't think I will change my two dolls names, but I have only had them for 2 months and 1 month, so things could change. But I am in the process of trading with a friend for her RS Dan named Adiliada, since she didn't bond with her and wants a smaller doll instead (I'm buying her choice of small doll that matches the selling price of her doll) and her only request was I do not change her name, I don't think I could, I look at her and her name will always be Adiliada, I will most definitely add to her character since my friend didn't, but her name will always be Adi to me.

4. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before :sweat

Have you ever seriously considered changing your dolls name? Even after owning them for a while? If you have, were you ever afraid you have issues bonding with the doll after that? I'm asking because I'm really considering changing my dolls name. She is my very first doll and we're still working on bonding, I bought her from ringdoll and I kept her name Lily. But now I'm not sure if it really fits her. I'd love to hear what you all think.

5. I gave my doll a name but never use it, calling her by a nick-name instead. I kinda prefer it that way. I've never concidered changing her name though I do know someone who did change one of her dolls names. It was totally confusing trying to remember the new name but I think if anything it helped her bond with the doll. She wasn't comfortable with the old name I guess.
If you think your doll fits a different name better or you'd prefer it, go ahead. You can always change it back.

6. If you think a different name would suit your doll better, why not? Even human beings change their names sometimes too.

7. I know plenty of people IRL who have changed their names, and usually the new name suits them better (except the cases where they are trying to be all goth and come up with a name like "Blacky McGotherson" LOL). I think the key is keeping in mind the new name and feeling like THAT is her name, much more so than the previous one.
I've had one doll that I just can't settle on a name for... I've changed it many times in my own mind, trying ti figure out what fits him best and, for now, his name is Tristran... but I might change it again because it just doesn't click for me... I still love him, though, no matter what.
Sometimes it's more than a name that bonds you to a doll or sculpt, sometimes it's all in the name.

8. i've had issues with my narsha
at first she was Samira then changed it to Sumire, but i tend to still call her Samira -_-
maybe i will just get back to the old name...

9. Will not revise the name again.

I always thought that thought the name is the very difficult matter..^^||||

10. I'm having the same issue... When getting my first doll, I decided to call her with a Korean name; it took me a while to find something with a meaning in tune with her BG, but in the end I found something appropriate.
Recently I was just talking randomly with my boyfriend about her and I realized that her name is really difficult to pronounce nicely in Italian... it looks more like an exclamation than a name, so I was considering to change it... but I suppose that I'm too afraid that I won't be able to bond with her anymore if I change her name!

However changing a doll name helped me with bonding with other 2 girls... so in my opinion you could always try to do so: if anything changes you can easily get back to the previous name! :)

11. I don't know why, but this made me laugh so hard. Thanks for making my day.

12. I change doll names all the time, but it doesn't have anything to do with bonding. I change them if I think of a better one.

13. Generally, the first week or so I have a new doll with me I'll change their names and stories until something "clicks" for me. I can't count how many names and stories my DM Thinking Larme went through until I found one that suited him. My Soom Heliot was a little better, but he still had many incarnations to go through.

So far, the only doll I have who's name I didn't change is my Obitsu Gretel, but she used to belong to my girlfriend (whom I live with) under a different name. Oddly, we don't get confused. It's probably the different face-up.

14. My doll's name doesn't go with his backstory at all, so I have tried to change it multiple times....
it's never worked ;_; his name just goes to well with him and my friends say even if I changed his name they'd still call him Giriko...
I don't think changing his name would affect the fact that I love every resin bit of him though XDDDD

15. Yes, actually. Don't ask me why, but I feel awkward telling other people her name in public. So I'd thought about giving her a nickname for those times when people ask "So... What'd you name her?" I don't really think it'd affect anything at all. I'd still know who she was, and in the end that's what matters.

16. i changed my chiwoos name and it suits her much better. of course she started as a boy before i decided to havefun with her face plate on day, but that's another story ;) if something doesn't work for you anymore with your BJD change. a name is an easy thing to change. if it doesn't work out you can just go back to the old name!

17. Mrow... I have a doll second hand. Her name's Arafel and while I didn't really have an attachment to the name, I felt that the doll was Arafel and couldn't bring myself to call her something else. Through that, we bonded... If that makes sense. XD

But if you feel that you can't bond with your doll, then by all means! Try out a different name and see how it feels. :D

18. well, i do find it easier to change a name (sometime i have a name in mind before a doll arrives and then when she does it doesn't fit somehow) early on ... after a year or two it gets harder for me to even remember the new name and i go back to the old name out of habit. sometime i'm lazy and call a doll by the default sculpt name for a while before finding a good "real" name :sweat

19. I understand how you feel. I got my first doll in July of last year. I've changed her name nearly 4 times. It's not that I'm not bonding with her, I just want her to have a name that suits her. I don't think changing the name means that you will bond with her any less, you might learn to love the doll even more then before.

20. This is something I've recently had to deal with. When my doll arrived, I gave him a name and as hard as I tried, it just didn't seem to sit right with him. Recently, after dressing him in his new wig and his new suit, I realised that the name was all wrong which could explain why it's taken me this long to really feel like he's my doll you know? So I changed his name recently and wham. I really feel like he's mine now. I think the problem with his first name was that I had named him after a character in one of my short stories but that character wasn't ever meant to be the name for a doll and it just took me some time to realise that I guess. His new name definitely fits his character.
