Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. Eh, I thought about changing Raziel's name. After I'd decided on Raziel and told a few people that this was his name, I looked at him and thought, "I probably should have called him Sirius... Yep, Sirius would have suited him a lot better."

Still, I'd already told a bunch of people that his name was Raziel, so I figured that I'd look really stupid changing his name after that. So I stuck with Raziel and the name grew on him.

The rest of my wishlist have names picked out for them already, so I (hopefully) won't have to worry about that.

    2. If i changed a doll's name their entire personality and look would have to change too, that way they would actually be someone else

    3. I was having the hardest time bonding with my Mika-boy, who was stubbornly refusing to settle into a persona and name. He had one for a while, but it never felt right. I changed his eyes at a meet up one day and then it became crystal clear who he was, and so much more comfortable.

I think that it's better to rename and re-soul a doll if you can bond better that way than it is to re-home it. It worked out wonderfully for Haven and I.

    4. i think its up to you if you want to change your dolls' names or not..but personally i'd never change my dolls' names. i don't have a the brain power nor the memory capacity for it XD once i learn someone/something's name, thats their name for good, wether they like it or not XDD

    5. i just changed my boy's name. it was actually kyoichi sho, better known as kyoi who is my syo . however i felt like renewing him but changing his name would be heart as i always name my doll meaningful names. i name him kyoichi cuz it somesort means first son of kyo. my first boy. so changing his name would be tough. i thot of changging his name to yukizo izumi but at the end of the day to preserve the first name, i change it to kyo yukizo since sometimes he seem to be want to be called yuki and some ppl do call him yuki. and atleast i can still call him kyo. ^______^

    6. Once I name my dolls they kinda stick. They become the name and I can't really do anything about it. But if I wanted to change Sora's name to "Mr. Fluffers McWhiskers" I would no problem, in the end he is my doll and I can call him whatever I want.

    7. Astri's been through 3 name changes and a body change. ^^;;; I just figured that since it didn't fit him, and the new name did, he'd take to it perfectly fine. I made sure I had a name picked out that I liked better and began calling him it in my mind often.

Maybe try shortening Erianthe's name to something like Erin or Ann something just so the name itself is less combersome to use.

    8. I see nothing wrong with changing their name. Changing the entire character, however, is just wrong.

    9. I'm OK with the idea of name changes, though it's not something I really actively do. All of my dolls go by nicknames anyway, including the ones I don't have yet. The closest I've come to a name change is with Kai. His full name is Ishiwara Kaion (Japanese-style), but he's never really gone by anything but Kai. Same with Aidri. He's Aidrien Wolfgang Loire, but it sounds weird to call him anything but Aidri.

With Asher (my next character up to get a body ^^), his name didn't come to me for the longest, so I just called him Leon. I figured if I never got his real name, I'd just pick Leon and be done with it. It eventually came to me, so he's now Asher, but I still call him Leon. It's just easier, and it fits him.

    10. I think if the name doesnt suit your doll you should change it if you want to.
I am personally having dramas with my first doll because I want to give him a name that will last...I dont WANT to change it so I want to give him the perfect name. Its so hard to decide. I have been collecting fovourite names for YEARS!!

Next doll I plan to have the name chosen LOOOONG before i even order it!

    11. I've been contemplating changing my Megi's name to Taira, (my spelling might be off on that, since I'm trying to remember a Japanese word) since he looks like the bassist from the anime Beck when he has his fur wig on.

ETA: I changed Valentine's name when I bought her, although I'm aware of what her previous owner called her.

    12. My disembodied Juri head, Miyuki, might get a name change. The name sounded appropriate for a Christmas elf at the time I chose it, but I'm not sure if it actually suits her. I'll probably wait until she gets a body before I decide on changing it or not.

    13. Loren doesnt seem to suit his name anymore-he'd seems to be hinting as Xander for some reason...and Lenore sometimes gives me 'gemma' looks.
Yorda is a bit os a mystery...she nicked Lenore's wig, looked gorgeous in it and seemed tempted to steal the name.

I dont think name-changing is a problem, really. If people message you asking why you changed the name, you can explain. I dont think you should feel pressured into changing a dolls name because another owner has a similar doll with the same name.
If I do rename Loren, i'l do a little re-naming ceremony for him or something, just to be sure.

    14. I've changed a doll's name... mainly because I had wanted them to fit into a name, so I forced it on them... but it never worked and eventually a more suitable name came along so I gave them that name instead.

    15. Jay's name has been added to. Repeatedly. xD; he started as "Junction Clyde" and it has since been decided that he was born Oscar, was called Junction when he was on the streets (orphan!), was finally taken in and "renamed" Lupin J. Clyde! (i have *no idea* what the "J." stands for but it's there and he hasn't told me, soo..) and of course i always refer to him as just "Jay." but nohisnameisnotjasonanditneverwillbe.*cough*

My soon-to-order Miyu has had several name changes in her planning stage. Mikaela LaReele was the first. She has since become Ylva Harrison and/or Mikael Taft (yes she's supposed to have two names. purposely!). Annnnnd since my *real life* friend criticized (and brought up a good point) about how her scandinavian-ish first names did not match her Civil War backstory, i should change 'em. So now she's like, Eleanor Harrison / Michael Taft. but i still call her Ylva. because it's her wolf name. WHICH IS A REQUIREMENT IN THIS HOUSE. harhar. *it's toooo late to be awake oh gods*

..Amarok never changed names. he's *always* been "Amarok Niche" from planning to the purchase! i thank him for it. :D

    16. Personally, i would never change their name....when a name strikes me, i feel that it is that doll's way of telling me their name......to change that, to me, is to say "I don't care what your name is, your getting called this"

    17. I had this little problem a few months ago. In the end, I decided not to change his name, and just see if different outfits would work (the issue was his face-up).

    18. I thought about changing Tai'an's and Si'or's names beacuse Tai'an is originally a boy's name and Si'or was origally Sihar a girl's name. However once they were given their names, htey stuck. Si'or's name became complete when he got his new wig. I've given the both last names but Tai'an's will probably change as fate has decided that she bind with Si'or.

    19. I'm curious - why? If somewhere along the way you find an altogether new interest that you'd like to explore without having to shell out another $700 on a new doll, how is it wrong to make some changes (including name and character) to an existing doll that you won't be using anymore? If my sweet little Mignon decided to become a rambunctious little lesbian punk named Rockit with green hair, why not?

IMO, it's the enjoyment of the doll and the hobby, not the semantics of names and characters. But then again, I'm still the one calling my big ones Sooah and Wu even though they've been "assigned" names and personalities for a while now.

    20. i haven't changed any of my girls' names yet. but right now i'm really happy with them. i like to think they selected their own names, though, heh.
