Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. My dolls name came from a character, and I've changed her name already and she hasn't even arrived yet! The character was only partially developed, and after saying her name aloud several times I just didn't like it as much. It wasn't a huge change, she went from Kathlin to Katarine and added her middle name, but I am much happier with it now.

My roommate changed her dolls name after owning him about three years now. She just didn't feel attached to him so she made him someone new. Then she found out the companions she wanted for him didn't fit, so he became someone else. So she really changed his entire identity, not just his name!

    2. I am a person who changes there mind really easy. Though I am hoping I stay with Eli and Kalen. Maybe only changing the spelling of Eli because I think people may say El-e instead of E-lie

    3. You probably don't need to change Eli. I think most people would read that as E-lie. The other pronunciation would generally be spelled Ellie.

    4. I'm not changing Alec's name - Alec is Alec - but my entire family has always known him as "Jay", because that's how I introduced him to my baby cousin, since his name's very similar to mine and I didn't want her to get me mixed up with the doll! Now that she's older and I'm changing his wig and planning on changing his eyes, he's fitting more into the mold of Alec as I've always intended him to be - so I'm going to start getting the fam to call him Alec.

Wow, I hope that made sense. xD

    5. I was thinking about this the other day... But usually when I name something, I can't seem to budge after I've decided on it. Even if I want to. O_o;; I've had my first 3 for a few years now, so I think it would be especially hard if I wanted to change their names now.

    6. I've changed my doll's name only once. It went from Mitch to Kristofferson. When It was Mitch, I didn't like it. I kept trying to think and find a new name! Then I heard Kristofferson and it stuck ever since. I'm very content now.
      :D

    7. My boy Christian was originally going to be a character from one of my books called Tyler Deacon. But Tyler had "severely spiked, wine coloured hair and mottled green eyes like parrot plumage" and Christian found a strange affinity for a steampunk eye, a blue eye, and a dark brown wig with black contrast.

Tyler didn't want to change, and Christian didn't want to change, so I came to the conclusion that they weren't the same person, and that Christian now needed a different story. It worked out well as I was playing with a half-formed character idea at the time (Christian Lafey) who didn't have a set appearance yet. They sort of... melded.

    8. I changed the name of my doll, he was Cassius and now is Neils, I think that name is better for him

    9. I'm kind of the other way around, I think. I have a hell of a time changing names, and it gets awkward cause I'll nickname a doll something while I wait for the actual name to strike me, and then the first name sticks. >.< My Bygg was supposed to have been Dynfari, but cause of his huge hooves I started calling him Mjolnir, and then it stuck. As did my Luts event head's name, .....'Head'.

    10. I have a "second hand" doll and her name is Pearl but I dont think it fits her well. She got this name from her previous owner. I have her since 5 months now and I cannot find a great new name for her :( It is hard to choose a new name. I always lurk the threads here and I am stunned by the creativity of all the BJD owners. For me it was never easy to find a name which really fits my dolls. I think it is easier to find a name with a backround story behind the doll.

    11. I always change OTZ

    12. I just changed my doll's name for a more befitting one. I will change them whenever I want.

    13. I've changed all of my doll's name multiple times until I found one that was just right. If I ever find a better name then I will probably change it again. :)

    14. i tend to change names and thus also character and wig and eyes of the doll if I feel what I chose the first time doesn't quite fit...

    15. When I was planning for my dolls I always try to figure out names, I go through a lot of changes when i'm doing that until the right one enters my mind I just know that its my dolls name. When I got my first doll Sanjaya, it took a long time of waiting (you know how it is waiting for your first doll seems so long XD ) I did name planning and character planning A LOT and now he's character is pretty different from before, but its just what i've worked into he's story, he's still the same character just has more of a history now. But I kept the same name because that's just he's name XD if i changed it i would feel wrong doing it.

For Dion my second doll (who i actually call Dee or HD) I actually had he's name and character before i got him and he fits it and its still the same. he actually has a Korean name too which i don't use often, but I was thinking of changing he's English name but I decided not to. but if i did it wouldn't matter because i know he's English name is not he's real name anyway XD

now for my new doll Yuri, I was actually originally going to call him Micah or Eduard, but he didn't suit the european names once i had him, i just thought he needed a different name. Yuri is he's name at the moment, I'm still not %100 about it , i haven't actually developed he's character that much either yet. I've only had him about 3 weeks. He was sort of an impulse buy so i didn't actually have a character for him before hand XD , i'm just developing it now. He is so cute though ><

    16. My Pipos Dali was named Pike when I first got him, and was called as such for several months. This was after a long research process of a suitable name, so I thought it would work out.

After several months I finally accepted that it simply dind't 'FIT' him 100%, and if I loved him as one of my dolls enough I would at least give him a name that suited him and felt more... natural? for him.

So after another reseraching bout, there were a few days of different names that didn't quite work, until 'Salil' stuck and that is now his name, and it feels much better.

    17. maybe i'm crazy for this, but since i have only one doll and might not ever get another one, i decided to give her more than one name. since i also want to makes things and do photoshoots with them i decided to give her 4different names, just depends on the shoot, which wig, which eyes she wears. i have one for her fantasy shoots/outfits, one for just fashion, one for an anime character i based her on, and one for her fun side. is that crazy?

    18. To this point I've never changed a doll's name once I've given them one. Even when I give them a little nickname while I'm trying to think of a name, they end up with that nickname as their actual name because it just sticks. I'm not adverse to the idea, especially if I were to completely change the style of the doll, but at this point all of my dolls seem to have the names that best suit them.

    19. If it doesnt suit them, I dont see why not..it could be a nick name, or expand their original name...
I think as long as you are happy with it and it feels right it will be ok..
I shorten one of my girls name and it feel so much better..and works more

    20. At first,my boy's name was Sanji since I planned him to become a One Piece character..but since he came from China,I decided to name him San Jie~:D
