Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. I'm horrible with names! I may change names 100 times before settling on one I love!

    2. I've done that to two of my boys so far. Multiple times actually, however, along with the whole character. Not just the names were changed.
I simply found them to be better resin shells for different characters of mine opposed to the original two they were gonna represent. No big deal.

    3. When I first got my ShinyDoll Saoli, I wanted to keep her sculpt name because I thought it suited her. Then I changed her wig and with that I saw that her name was really Moth. There's nothing wrong with changing your doll's name at all. Sometimes it takes a while to find their true name.

    4. I love this thread!! :D
My first BJD was my Dollmore Kid Asha. When I first got her, she was supposed to be a different character, but as time passed, she wasn't the right doll for the character for a lot of reasons, especially her name. First she was Uzi then she was Mnemosyne and that name wasn't her because everyone called her Sync. It simply didn't fit her but now she's Ariadne aka Aria and she revealed it to me while hanging out and her arm flung out and pointed to a poster I have called "Ariadne". Irony. :/ :( My friends got on to me about changing her name so much, but I can't help being so indecisive. D: Stupid Libra tendency. :/ Her name the third time around is a much better fit. I find nothing wrong about changing a doll's name if it doesn't fit.

    5. I always know it's time to change the name when you keep calling the doll (kitten, goldfish, what-have-you) by another name! This has happened to me only once, but it has happened.

    6. I used be really indecisive about names. I have to go thru at least 5o - 1oo names before settling on one. And then I will changed it again once the doll itself arrive o_____o Annoying. Now, I'm pretty easy, I see a name I like, writes it down, find a last name and ta-dah! Done. And the name will stick to the doll XD

I dont like to change the doll's name after I had him for a while though because people will know him as "This name" and if I change it, people will be like "Huh, a new doll?" So I dont bother changing names once it's confirmed. BUT the doll really doesnt like the name, I will have to change it though, no matter if I had the doll for a year or not, if it doesnt stick, it just doesnt.

    7. When I was waiting for Audrie to arrive I was bouncing tons of names back and forth.
Once she arrived, I just started calling her "Audrie" thinking it wasn't permenant.
Well, it is now! I couldn't imagine her EVER having a different name.

Although I have added a middle and last name.
      So now she is:
      Audrie Linette North.

    8. I couldn't do it. I might give them more names or aliases, but I could not take away a name that I had already given them. They might have names that they used at different times, but I couldn't change their original name.

    9. My first one was named Newbie, because she was my first, and I was just trying my hand at the hobby. She stayed Newbie for the better part of a year. Then after I'd had two for a while, and done come customizing to them, I decided that she was here to stay. So I named her Lola.

    10. I've been changing up my doll names recently, actually. I plan on changing their names again once I get a hold of the next few dolls I'm waiting on.

    11. I decided my doll's name and I have not come to the point of wanting to change name. I think it is ok to change name as long as you like it.

    12. I have made a few doll purchases with a character in mind, but when I open the box it doesn't feel right. I have completely gone a different directions with doll names, personalities and modifications long after making a purchase, or when I get a new doll sometimes I start to feel differently about one I had before so I change it up so they go better together.

    13. and that's why I think really hard when choosing a name at first
I haven't changed any because I do like the names (current and only boy so far: Luke Blondet)

    14. My idea was that as long as the doll has the same head, they keep the same name. If the head changes for some reason, they become another doll with another name...

    15. Well, currently I've never thought to change a name to one of my dolls.. simply because it will be quite strange to me having a doll I called with a name which suddendly changes. And even because I take a loooooot of time focusing on ONE name only XD and deciding it..
Even if I officially decide for a definitive name only when the doll reaches home and she/he really suits her/his name..
or I simply wait for discovering it..
      XD
Anyway, I think it can happen if someone just prefers another name also few time for her already-named doll.. at that point, I think it's correct changing the name, but maybe trying to give an explanation, or a link to the background of the doll herself..
if it's important to the owner.. many can also just change characters, stories, personalities cause they actually don't mind of all these things.
Personally I think each of my dolls "owns" personality and a role.. so I can't change it , including their names of course, but I can always add particular to their stories/backgrounds/characters and also change their names if I need, just linking all these changements to the previous character.. I just could never think to transorm my Elyza, for example, from a Vintage girl to a modern teen who wears hoodies and so on... She's Elyza and even if her name changed to another (for a precise reason..) she could never change to my eyes as character..

    16. I love my doll. He name is Nangong and i have change it to Ace because Nangong is a Chinese name and i felt people can not pronounced it right. My boyfriend recent starting calling my boy baby jiggle. I think baby jiggle is kinda cute name

    17. If I change a doll/character's name it's usually because the character isn't fully developed, and if the case is that the doll's character/personality isn't fully developed which causes me to not bond with the doll. So if I have to re-name a doll chances are I will end up selling him/her. So I very much dislike changing a dolls name.

    18. I usually have one or two name ideas in mind and then I settle on one once the doll arrives and I have a chance to get to know her and see what suits her best. Sometimes it will be a name completely different from the ones I had in mind.

I have changed a doll's name twice and both were from names I had chosen back to her original sculpt name. It just seemed to suit those two dolls the best and I just could never call them anything else.

    19. I originally bought my first two dolls to match certain characters...but eventually I scrapped the piece I was working on, I actually ended up resenting the story I was writing. So I did actually change my first two dolls' names. But I also changed their faceups, hair, and clothes to match their new character's names.

I guess since I purchase dolls to fit characters in my stories, it makes the name-choosing a bit easier for me XD

    20. I've not really changed a dolls name once it was set - however I've been considering that with one of my latest dolls. His character was all made up - his look was set up and was going to work great... but then I had alot of issues getting the head worked on, issues getting his body, and have been craving a softer boy than what he was being designed to be... so now I think he may need a name change to allow him to be more flexible like I want. *_*; I don't see anything wrong with changing a dolls name at all - especially if the look/character attached to them has changed.
