Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. I'm kind of going through this at the moment with a couple of my dolls...
Turns out, they were not who I expected them to be and one in particular may be getting a complete revamp! It feels kind of strange though because they've had their names even before they arrived... Meh, I'm slightly torn on what to do but I don't feel so bad considering it after reading a lot of these posts.
I think this happened because they were sculpts I purchased because I adored them, not because I had a character that would fit them. The characters slowly developed after and I'm still a little unsure what direction I wish to go with them.
I still love the dolls/sculpts but I'm thinking differently about them from how I was originally
But hey, sometimes you just need a change ^_^

    2. Mine was originally named Frankie, but everytime I refer to her, her name comes out Freddie. Apparently...that's her name! I debated changing it because I couldn't keep the name straight, but ultimately stuck with Freddie...for now...

    3. No! Wolfgang was born Wolfgang and Armada was born Armada. Jst because you create a cool name later doesnt mean you have to change it, well to me anyways. I might like the way a later name might sound but i would never change names.

    4. I think that if you choose a name and another different name keeps popping up in your head instead then.. that was meant to be their name.

    5. I might want to change doll's name if I had it in mind looking on promo pics, but in real life this name just don't suit the sculpt. Don't have any problems with it.

    6. I had a boy for a few weeks I think and realized that he just wasn't working for the character I had bought him for, but his sculpt is exactly my type, so I changed his character and his story quite a few times and now I'm finally happy with him.

    7. My Dante was essentially a hand-me-down. When I got him he went through 2 completely different characters before he finally became Dante. I think he prefers this character, although, he's been complaining about sharing my nick-name.... So who knows, he may get a name change soon enough.

    8. My boy, Lucas, pretty much gotten taken over his "cousin" Spencer. So not only did he get a name change, he got a whole change of character.

Before I got him, my boy Zane was supposed to be Xander - short for Alexander - which became his middle name instead.

      I think that's all...

    9. I had one doll for months (I think over 6 months! poor thing) without a name. Suddenly one day her name just called out to me and I forgot all others I had considered so far and the name stuck.
And at the moment one of my dolls is without a name as well. She had a name but when she got to me I looked at her and decided she didn't really fit into the character I had thought for her. Also after I found a new wig, pretty much all of her changed. So I am now re-figuring her out!
I am sure when the time is right, her name will just *pop* into my head!

    10. I've never thought of changing my doll's names, but I think if you find something else that suits them better and it works, why not?

    11. I haven't gotten her yet, but based on the pictures I've seen I've picked out a name for my girl. But I'm more than willing to change if when she's actually here the name doesn't fit. I doubt she'd mind

    12. I think that changing the name is fine. My Nethernai was originally Jiriki, but that did not suit him at all. Wrong character.

    13. Yup! My doll's name was Tegan from October 2010 until June 2011 where I totally changed him up and renamed him Juneau or Juno.

    14. When I get my dolls, I search for a name that goes with their looks and personality.
I don't care what name it originally had on the internet when I bought it.
I don't think I would ever changes their names again after that, though. When a name fits them, I won't change it. And perhaps when the name turned out not to fit after all, I would give him or her a nickname. But the real name would still be the same.
I mean, you usually don't change human names either, right?

    15. I had a pretty difficult time naming my Resinsoul Lan head when I was getting her, but I finally settled on one that fit with all the mods I was going to do to her once I got her body. Then I got comfortable with how she is, and decided the modding wasn't going to be for her. The sculpt is just too pretty to mess with. xD

So, after a month or so of having her, I changed her name. I love the name, but I'm still not sure I'm completely sold on this one either... xwx; I've never been so indecisive!

    16. I don't change their names....
but then, naming them is about a week long process (even though they're all named after rocks) of looking up names and bouncing them off the new doll until I found one that suited them perfectly....

    17. I did with my Feeple Chloe.

While she was in processing I had named her Ay'Lah, meaning halo around the moon. I thought it was quite good and went well with her ethereal character. However that name just reminded me way too much of Clan of the Cave Bear and the "Ugh gha AYLA, chak- rat ugh booga booga" caveman talk. lol

I dropped the name and for a few weeks she was nameless. Once I got her I started another name hunt and came up with Aurelia Kallisto. I just love it! Still great for her character because it means Golden the Most Beautiful. I would actually go as far as to say this is a far superior name to her first one and fits her perrrrfectly.

    18. I changed Sei's name, it used to be Alex. But from the start I had doubts about his name. Usually they just come to me. That it became Sei is because he looks like one of my oc's.

    19. My first doll was going to be named Seren, as she was an elf and it's such a pretty word/name. Then I got her. And when I tried calling her that out loud it just did not fit her less than ethereal character. Then she got a wig with copper colored streaks in it and the name Penelope came to me...and then it was instantly shortened to Penny, who she's been ever since lol

    20. My first inclination was to say, "Once I name a character, it sticks!" But when I actually thought about it, I realized that wasn't true.

One of my girls was initially named Alice, but soon after I began liking the name of Rose for her as well. I compromised - her first name was Alice, and her middle name was Rose. But over time, I ended up referring to her as just Rose, and dropping the Alice entirely, so her name changed permanently to Rose.

My twins were initially named Sai and Shin because they reminded me so much of the character Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. (Battousai = Sai. Kenshin = Shin. I took the last couple syllables or so of the two names.) But I try not to name dolls after characters or people I know, and eventually they became Briar and Robin instead.

My Kid Delf Cherry and Kid Delf Bory switched names on me. Cherry was supposed to be Wilfred, and Bory was supposed to be Elliot. Then their face-ups were finished. Cherry became Elliot, and Bory became Wilfred, and I honestly can't imagine it any other way now.
