Changing your doll's name

Normally when I get a doll I have the idea of a character either like an OC/PC of mine or like something out of a comic or novel etcetera, so have name planned. Once in a while love at fist sight happens without an idea and I make a character around the doll's look, and a name follows. I've renamed one or two, the case that springs right to mind here though is my doll Klarion so that's the story I'll share here.

So set up I love all things Oz, my user name here is Tippetarius and Tipp/Ozma is one of my favorite book characters of all time. So I have a set of Iplehouse dolls in 1/3rd sale that are slightly older (teenaged) versions of Tipp and his female counter part Ozma. Shortly after getting my perfect Ozma and Tipp, Aimerai doll comes onto the scene and makes a line of dolls based on the Oz books. So even though I've a perfect Ozma in SD I of course need the Aimeri doll Ozma full set MSD doll, and the outfit for the Tipp doll. The dolls used the same head mold and the face up was close enough I was like I'll get one as both.

So I get the doll and outfits and end up strongly disliking the Ozma dress (it's like made of glitter and loses sparkling glitter every where it goes no matter what I do.) So I kinda left the doll in Tipp mode. As said I already had/have a perfect Ozma and Tipp, so this little extra one isn't really seeing a lot of use or play. I don't use one of it's outfits much if at all, and I'm not crazy over the super soft muted face up felt it clashed with her odd face expression.

Mean while I was thinking I'd like to make a doll of this one random character from DC comics Klarion the Witch Boy. So Klarion has different versions sometimes he is a normal peach skinned young teen or even a child. Others he is a older teen and has blue skin, he's been in different DC cartoons, and has had lots of outfit and even make up styles. So I end up going I want to mix parts from all the versions I like and as blue is a rare color or a DYI I am like ok pink skin and goth make up, but on a like 12 or 13 year old looking doll. I don't know at what point I went from well I could sell my Aimeri Ozma to omfg this doll is perfect as Klarion the Witch Boy. But I not only renamed her, but I had a friend redo the face up and gave the doll a sex change.

TLDR It's ok to fully change a doll if one name or idea doesn't work another might.

 

I've never had the feeling that a name no longer fits. But this thread has shown me that I have no idea how I would react if that ever happened.
On one hand, I would probably just change it. On the other hand, a chosen name is kind of "final" for me (just like I wouldn't be able to change my own name that easily).

 

I have my doll for 2 months now. I still can't find a proper name for her lol
I've decided I will name her after she get her new face up next week

 

Weird side note in this topic I see a lot of people list as a reason to not change a doll's name because with people you are stuck with your given/birth name. However I'm over here a trans-man and I'm working on legally changing my name sooner then later. I also know a few people that have legally changed either their first or last names or both for reasons outside being trans, like trauma or marriage and lets not forget many actors take stage names. It's just to me a very interesting side note as a person that loves name meanings, believes names are very important, yet also believes that people should have the right to change their name if they want to. (Or in my case your birth name gives you pain to be known by it.)

I am in no way saying anyone's reasons in this thread for not changing a name are invalid, as said it's just an odd side note/insight from me being a person in the middle of a RL name change.

 

I have a heavily modded delf yder that I received last spring, and his name was Blaise. My partner started working with someone named Blaise and I felt like I was only talking about his work using the same name.
My dolls name is now Burke! It suits him a lot better in my eyes and it gave me more inspiration for him.

 

Dorian's name was Taka many years ago. I just felt like it didn't fit him anymore when I decided to update my crew. Now finally after having him for like 8 years I'm getting another doll in the same size range that has already helped me flesh out and pick Dorian's name, and new guy isn't even here yet.
