1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. My girlfriend tried change her doll's name and character but ended up unable to bond with him. Then she gave him a new faceup and I bonded with him perfectly ^^;; so there are just different ways you can react to the change. But don't feel too guilty about it. Sometimes a name or something just doesn't fit so it needs to change

    2. Hi I have a AOD doll and the name I gave her when she arrived (holly) just doesnt seem to suit her now I have started to customise her (new wig clothes ect)I wondered what you all thought about changing a dolls name once it has been given one also if anyone else had given a name that as time passed didnt seem to fit the doll. Thanks for your time :)

    3. I don't think it really should mater, afterall it is your doll.

    4. I think often people rename their dolls. Perhaps this feeling you have is because she (the doll) is telling you she wants a new name :)

    5. No worries! I've renamed... five of my boys, I think. As a consequence, I'm so very much happier with having all of them around, while before, as much as I loved their sculpt and their look, with the wrong name it was very hard for me to connect with them. The way I look at it, some of them just take a little longer than others to figure out who it is they really are ^_^

    6. I don't think renaming is a bad thing, it's not bad luck like renaming a boat  I think you relate better to your doll once you've found their real name anyway. What other names were you considering?

    7. I have several dolls whose names I'm not entirely happy with. One has a temporary name (Caleb) until I come up with something more.. appropriate. And that name I'm seriously giving thought to giving to another doll I have once Caleb has his proper name. And there's one other whose name I've just never been completely satisfied with.

So, I don't think renaming is such a bad thing. If it doesn't suit the doll, change it. You'll be much happier with the doll than if you didn't change it.

Another way of thinking would be that the doll had a name to begin with (that the doll company gave it) and you're changing it when you get it home, why should changing it again be any different?

    8. Did it, twice. Second time changed doll's personality and style too at the same time.
I think you can do whatever you want with your doll. Changing a name is a little thing. it's just a name after all :3
...If you just can remember the new name, I had difficult time with my first doll as I accidentally called her with her temporary name even after I had made up a new name.

    9. I see it this way: The name your doll have now was just one you choose without really knowing the doll. However your doll already had a name and now he/she wants to tell you. :)

    10. Well, Isaac's name has changed a couple of times because I just couldn't make up my mind- then her default name (Isaac) just seemed good. ^_^ As far as the other two, Anthony took a while to choose his name, but Hotaru just jumped out at me.

    11. I'm a Libra too so I agree with the "I can't decide...I want it all" thinking process.

I haven't even gotten my dolls yet and I was thinking of changing Tsukasa's name. But I decided to keep it and the name I wanted to give him is now a nickname for him.

    12. I have one doll whose name I've changed. Originally, he was going to be called Spike, and when I got him home I tried to think of him as Spike, but he just...isn't. He's not that guy at all, so I changed his name to Mace, just to have something to call him. That might actually only be temporary until I think of a more appropriate one for him. Until I do, he's Mace (or Leech, if I'm using his nickname).

    13. Well, Luken - is Luken. But he's also Vassago. Luken's only his cover identity. You don't go running around shouting "Hey, I'm a powerful dark mage - arrest me!" *grin* So I guess changing Luken's name wouldn't be all that big a deal. It would mean, probably, that someone's unto him and he's gotta find a new cover identity.

    14. I don't think I could change Imogene's name now that she has it. I might add to it or alter it, but names to me are very important. Everything I've named I've named for a reason. Some reasons are more shallow than others, but ultimately the reason is there.

I don't see a problem with other people changing their doll's name,I just don't think I would change mine n_n

    15. Well, my first doll was formerly called Edward... but after some months he has told me somehow that his true name is Henry... It fits better with his personality and history. I don't think it is bad to change the name if needed.

    16. Some times I think about changing Cullens name, but it fits him so well I don't think I ever will.
My DZ fox is another matter. Her name is Kitsune Hiroshi 'officially' but I don't really like it, so I've just been calling her 'lil fox, or foxy.

[[.::If anyone has any good name ideas pm me! lol::.]]

    17. If you need to change it to feel right, change it. I have had to. I have also just added more to the name of a doll, because I could not decide, and liked more then one name. So my doll received more then one name, that to me, went together.

    18. Dropped into this thread by a moderator. Thank you Mod Peeps.

Has anyone re-named, or swapped the names, of their resinous people? I'm curious because I am on the verge of doing just that.

The latest guy to arrive looks more like Cappy than the present incumbent, so I'm thinking of making Takeo Cappy, and Cappy Abe Knapper, both characters from From a World More Full.

Has anyone else renamed, and if so why?

Below on the left is Takeo and on the right Cappy. Or maybe it is Cappy on the left and Abe on the right. I'll let it stew for a while. *_*

    19. I think it's quite a common occurrence in this hobby ^^

My DoC was Dieter when he first arrived, but when I decided to upgrade his body, I changed my DoC's name and character to Siegfried instead. It's not exactly the same as your situation, but I'm just saying I have no qualms with changing a doll's name/character if and when I feel I have to

    20. Nah, but I feel once I've had them for a while it's so weird to switch names. I can't just re-name her.

(I'm mostly talking about any doll I have since I haven't had my BJD for that long)
