Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. I've changed Rook's name a couple of times because none of his previous names really fitted him. I've not actually swapped the names of my boys, but changing dolls names isn't unheard of in this hobby.

You could try it, and if it feels weird and continues to feel weird, you may have to look for another solution. But you may be pleasantly surprised and the boys settle with their new names quite happily.

    2. Hmm, well luckily Kae fit his name well, otherwise I think I would've changed it. I just can't call a doll by it's name if it doesn't suit :/

I think like if you change hair, eyes and face up even perhaps, it'd be "easier" to change a name, instead of randomly springing it up one day. I know I'd be confused. xD

    3. after reading this thread i have decided to "adjust" my doll's names a bit. i just got 2 tinies and couldn't quite "feel" their names very well so i arbitrarily picked names i liked.
my blue CoCo i named Skye but i think i will add Summer-"Summer Skye!"
and my Mina ( which name actually quite suits her, but i want something more personal)
i named LuLu, but it doesn't fit so i think i will adjust to Lilli ( as in sweet flower or short for lilliputian, because she is so tiny!)

    4. Well, I was planning on a totally different character for my Libra, but as soon as I held him in my arms, I knew who he was meant to be.

So he got a name change instantly. XD; Rem.. I'm debating changing her name right now. She's also a different personality than I had planned.

    5. I was kind of thinking about this earlier when I was talking about the doll I'm saving for right now. I want AR Diana Pride and I always refer to her as Diana. But I'm aiming to eventually put her head on a boy body and get another girl head for the body making Diana boy Aero and the girl as yet nameless....so my friends get confused about who I'm talking about because I change names depending on which time I'm talking about them....

And my first MSD was SUPPOSED to get a name change actually...When I put her together I thought she looked like how I imagined a little Anathema Device (character from Good Omens book) so I nicknamed her Anathema just to get away from calling her Sakura (her mold name) or Sadako (from The Ring T-T) whom my friend thought she looked like...It was just to be a temporary name until I thought of something cute and clever, but apparently she really likes the name because she has had it over 4 years now....

    6. I've had a volks Myu for almost a year now that I named Marie, but now i'm finally getting a boyfriend for her, and i'm thinking of changing her name... You see, I seriously think the new boy looks just like Hayama from the manga Kodocha (a/k/a: Kodomo No Omocha, a/k/a: Child's Toy)... however, if I name him Hayama, then I have to change my Marie's name to Sana. She kind of looks like Sana to me, now that I look at her... she just needs bangs.

BUT... It's hard to change a dolls' name... my fiance' keeps making fun of me, saying that if it was a kid or a puppy or something i'd never change the name... so I'm torn! lol

    7. I wouldn't be able to change a name completely, that's why it has to be right in the first place. I take my time over names, unless they hit me instantly. Gwenllian was Gwenllian as soon as I opened her box, but before that she was going to be Kira or something like that.

With Alaw, I've added to her name, but I haven't changed it. I'd feel weird about changing a name once they've had it for a while. It's up to you though :)

    8. Mei-Lien used to be called Asta, but when she got a new faceup that was so drastically different from her original one, her entire personality changed to me. Her story materialised too (she didn't have one before), and now I can't imagine her as Asta again. She's like a totally different doll, but we weren't bonding before and it was definitely changed for the best!

    9. I think I once thought about it casually, but I realized that the old name would stick, and even though I would try to think of him by the new name, the old one would keep on popping into my head whenever I thought about him when I wasn't paying attention...

    10. I tried changing one of my boys names, but the name quickly took on a character of it's own. :sweat So Luke will stay Luke and my new char, Corvyn is on his way home. :)

    11. I've yet to name my doll, it's a toss up between Marlene or Olivia however knowing me, I'll hear another name that sounds nice and have to add that to my growing list lol.

    12. I think they are vessels for your creativity, so, why not!? :)

We're all just actors in a really big play and so are they!

      Arkhe

    13. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I've changed one doll's name. He was bought with the intention of being a guy called Spike (well, okay, Seamus Riley, but he never uses his real name), but when I got him, he just...wasn't. He's not that character at all, so I had to change his name. Turns out, he's pretty happy as Spike's twin brother, Mace (Sean Patrick). He's even got an embarrassing story about how exactly he got that nickname, as does Spike.

    14. Ain't that the truth!

    15. I've wanted to change a couple of my dolls' names, but I feel like since they're already known as their current names, it'd be strange to change them now.

    16. That would be like that time we tried to change my dog's name. It just wouldn't work. xD My next doll I have planned.. his name is apparently Frillian. That came from when I looked at the card that came with Kayl.. it said Feilian (even though he's Fei. /: ), and I thought the e was an r because it was an odd font, and I thought, "Ew, I'm not naming him that, that's so gross," but when I thought of the character for my next doll, it just appeared out of no where and I can't change it. D: I will if I can, though. xD

    17. Yes, is it difficult for me to name my crew. So sometimes, their names change often.

    18. I have sometimes changed my dolls names unintentionally, ther times intentionaly. LOL

    19. I change my dolls names every so often because they usually evolve entirely into a different character. When I give them new faceup's, suddenly they aren't the same as I pictured them to be anymore. I tend to change most of my dolls around a lot, sometimes too much that it even frightens me. I hope that I'll be able to settle down with just one look, and one character for each of them soon enough.

    20. I couldn't change my girls' names. Name makes the personality, for my opinion. All the names I've decided for my dolls (both those I own and those I'm going to buy someday) have been absolute - after "finding" the name, I wasn't able to change it, even if I really wanted. So, Aoi is going to be Aoi, though I really didn't want him to be (he's next doll in my shopping list).
