1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Changing your doll's name

May 16, 2006

    1. I changed Takeo (below left) to Cappy and former Cappy (below right) to Abe. It was just that when SD Tae arrived he looked more like Cappy.

I've posted this pic in a similar thread on the same subject.

    2. Until recently other then taking awhile to name a doll it's pretty much been they keep that name. But I had twin elves and one was Luna for night and the other Soliel for day. But I have to part with Luna and so they whole idea planned of day and night elves is now out the window. So Soliel will need a new name as she is staying. But I will wait to pick it when she returns from the face up artist as then will have a better idea of what she wishes to be called.

    3. I looked around briefly, but I didn't find a thread on this yet ^^

Does anybody else have the problem of changing their dolls names a lot -- or wanting to? Sometimes I feel pressure to give my doll a name when he/she arrives (I can't very well keep calling her FCS-F06 can I!) so I think of something reasonably nice, but then I just hear a REALLY awesome name later!

      For example, just recently, I started reading blogs on 18th century notorious women (not sure how that happened!) and suddenly I want to name one of my dolls Hecca or Harryo! But at the same time I feel guilty if I change a dolls name -- even if it would be to a really good one! I feel like I might get carried away and do it too often ^^;

Has it happened to you? XD

    4. I've never felt compelled to change a dolls name. But I'm pretty good at pegging them with a name that I feel is awesome from the get go.

However, I've known people who change dolls names with outfits. It's an inatimate object, so don't worry about changing names too often. Once you find something really good, you'll stick with it.

    5. I'm pretty sure if I attempted to change my boy's name, Liina may well turn into something scary and try and suffocate me whilst I sleep. XD

No, really, once I've figured out 'who' a sculpt is going to be within the little team of muses/characters in my head, they stay there. Liina shall always be my ice elemental, bitchy, snarky character who's responses are usually a derisive stare or an icy glare of disdain. XD He'll always be blue. ^-^

    6. Yes.. I have a girl, Robin, who I'm just not connecting with. So I have been thinking of changing her name and other things about her to see if she feels more at home... But right now I don't have too much time for my dolls.. =_=

    7. Really?? I actually think that's a really cool idea! Do they change the name with every outfit (each new dress is a new name) or do they change the name when they change the style (e.g. now that the doll is wearing punk clothes instead of feminine lolita, it has a new name)? Or is there no pattern at all, and they just feel like the doll looks like a different "person" sometimes? :D

    8. some people have a new doll for every character, and some people have one or two dolls they can dress up to make them into many different characters.
personally, I change them if it isn't right untill I find something that sticks.

    9. I often change a doll's name if I think up a better one. It's my doll and I can do whatever I wish. Sometimes even their personality changes if I get them new clothes. I think of them more as a troop of actors than specific persons, anyway.

    10. I actually really like that idea :D

The reason I feel badly about changing a dolls name is that I tend to empathize with inanimate objects (not just dolls! absolutely anything! yes, I know I'm a bit silly! but I'm certainly not the only one on this forum :) ) so I think to myself "hmm, I don't think I'd be too happy if my parents kept changing my name all the time >.>"

But if you look at it that way, then the doll gets to have a lot of fun every time you change his/her name :D

    11. I always used to change my dolls' names when some new inspiration pop out from my head. It feels good because you think they are now having better names. The only big problem is that they were changed so often that I might forget about the new names after a period of time I didn't play with them. :eusa_naug
Now I don't change their names so often because of that stupid reason.:chibi But I don't think you need to feel bad on that. If their wigs and eyes and whatever are always customizable and changeable to fit for different characteristics you want, so why not names? :XD:

    12. My unoa had a temp name for a while. Calling her "Ugly bodied Sist" wasn't all that appealing. The temp name ended up sticking when I got her a proper body though. But within that stint of time I played around with different name ideas a lot.

    13. Any possible name change occurs way back in character developement, most of my dolls are OCs, or within the first day or two as I'm looking for a doll I already have to fit in somewhere. For example I had a different name for Anderson for a couple of hours until I realized why he looked familiar. If a doll name is wrong it feels wrong.

Usually a name is there forever, some have had theirs for nearly 30 years, but then again some of the older dolls have released their old Ki and accepted new ones to fit in the custom universe.

    14. most of mine have characters before they even arrive, I am more inclined to change a sculpt for a character than rename a doll I have. However most of mine also have complex names, and may end up being called by one part of their name when they started out as the other

    15. I've also never wanted to change a doll's name, because my named ones have always had complex stories and backgrounds (established characters) before I order them. However, I do have some dolls I just never named, because I do not yet have a character for them. In many cases, they are floating heads, but one is a ReiTenshi I unexpectedly won and that REALLY doesn't fit in with my doll crew, but that I can't really sell since it was a gift from Volks (I call it "The Unnamed" or "Unnamed").

    16. I have several. One is a big boy I purchased a couple of years ago with a particular character in mind, then decided he should be someone else when he got here. But that never stuck, so after several waffles back and forth he's now definitely who he was intended to be (EDIT: It's Sanosuke :) )

I have another guy who came here and got named... something. I don't even remember what it was. Then was sold and named Kenshin (mini-Ken) by the new owner. Now he's back here and is mini-Ken but may well be something else eventually.

And there are several of the tinies who I have to look up to remember what I named them because the names aren't quite right. So no, I feel no particular guilt or other issues with renaming, if the present name isn't working.

    17. I put the names of my dolls in my profile here on DOA just so I can remember them. I'm pretty sure I would forget if I didn't have them recorded someplace.

    18. There is one, who's character i've changed, and i wanted to rename him, but that didn't work.. :S his old name kept on comming back, so i just let it be.. so everything's changed.. except the name.. :P

    19. My Shiwoo is just called No Name. I had a name picked out for him when he came but it just...didn't seem to fit at all. So I started calling him No Name, and it's...stuck a bit now. Even though I've played with his looks and changed his eyes and wigs and style completely and I feel like we've finally bonded...he's still No Name. xD I want to change it, but I don't think I can.

    20. I changed my doll's name from Clementine to Sybelle after literally having her years. Clementine never REALLY stuck, however, and I also had a lot of negative associations with the name... so now it's Sybelle! It hasn't been a difficult transition at all (and trust me, it's for the best!)
