Children handling your dolls?

Jan 17, 2007

    1. I avoid letting my kids play with them. my oldest is careful but unless she's supervised, she can get careless. However, she has saved my doll a few times when her sister got into my purse, and I usually find that she's put some of her own doll clothes on her (my doll frequently is naked because I never finish redressing her...)

    2. I don't. The first time my neice saw my girl she said "I cut her hair" :o , she had recently cut her own and her dolls hair and seemed to think it fun. Yeah, not a chance. She's going to be 4 but she is not carefull at all.

    3. i haven't gotten a BJD yet, but when i was younger-my brothers were notorious for cutting my barbie's hair, and pulling off their heads. Although my ken dolls always remained un-touched. >.<
but now that my brothers are much older-i would be absolutely fine with them handling and playing with my BJD(once i get her). although i highly doubt that they would have any intrest in playing with them...
      unless i get her a guitar 8D

    4. I would judge a child wanting to hold a doll of mine by the same criteria as I would an adult. If I think they are careful and have clean hands then they can play gently for a while under my supervision. I know 6 year olds I would trust, and 40 year olds that I wouldn't.

    5. I'm not very good with children myself, so I'm very rarely in a situation where a child next to a doll of mine would surface.

But, hypothetically, if a resinfriend came into the same sort of area as I child, I'd be very careful to make sure the kid didn't handle it. I don't trust children. They're unpredictable. Some of them are lovely! But I can't tell what they're going to do, ever. So just to be sure...

    6. i'd always watch out if my niece was ever near my boy.i'd either keep him in my arms or vertically out of reach from my niece, knowing how destructive she can get.. <_<

    7. I don't have a doll yet. I think I won't give my doll to children to play with. When I was a kid I was very respectful for mine and others stuff. I almost never broke any toys, but when something small happened accitentally and something came off I cried all day. Most of the broken toys I've had (only a few tough) are been broken by other children. I forgived them, but inside I was really sad and angry, because I never-ever broke any other's belongings. My mom's friend's children could NEVER touch my things. I always lock my door when they are over. When my room's door didn't have a lock I was in my room, holding the doorhandle so they couldn't come in. And they tried to invade all the time. You can only guess about the condition of my hands after that... Outch! But I know at least one child who would be respectful for my things: she's 10, we are almos neighbours we know each other for like 7 or 8 years. We are best friends. (I'm 14, if anybody cares) When I showed her bjd's at DoD, she sayd they look pretty cool. But she doesn't want one herself. Every time we watch tv or something and there is commercial about winning money she says that I should win it to buy my doll. That's so sweet ^_^ And she really is like she would be least 5 years older. We are like tottally same :) She is a sister I never had (and my neighbour-boy belived it xD)

    8. Well, I would never let children play with my dolls, but holding them has been alright so far (with children above 10).
So I would see if the child is responsibel enough to hold the doll.

    9. No. Absolutely not. In fact, I highly doubt I will let anyone other than me and my mother handle my boy. I'm already paranoid about my normal things being handled by other people. I take fantastic care of my possessions and I am very careful with other people's belongings, but most of the time I feel like other people likely won't return the courtesy. *shrugs* So, no.

    10. Right now, I'd say no way, but I think if the situation arose, I'd let the kids touch my dolls as long as I kept a close eye on them :)

    11. I have a horror story about this topic. My friend and I came back home to find her mom asleep on the couch and her 7 year old sister quietly somewhere. Apparently somewhere was locking herself in the bathroom with my friend's DOT Lahoo, drawing all over his face with various markers and crayons. It was terrible... my friend almost fainted I think.

Now, what I was getting at is if my friend had let her sister at least hold Lahoo on her lap, maybe she wouldn't be tempted to sneak and get into trouble? She was never allowed to touch him at all, which I thought was mean and then this happened. I don't know much about kids but I'm fine with letting all the ones I know hold my doll when I get one, under supervision on course. :)

    12. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. NO.

If i spend over 600 dollars on a doll, I'm not letting a child put their dirty hands all over it. It of course depends on age, and whether or not the child understands that they must be very careful with it....I don't think most kids under 10 can grasp how expensive a BJD doll is. Accidents happen...so I'd rather not put my possessions in that kind of situation. AT LEAST if I broke my own doll...i'd only have myself to blame.

    13. Hmm. Probably not. Ever since my 2 year old cousin snapped the head off my Legolas action figure when I was sixteen I've been a little reluctant to let ANYONE touch any of my dolls/figures/what have you. My roommates now don't seem to understand that you really shouldn't touch Cain when you have dirty/food-y hands, but I haven't had the heart to admonish them yet, I've just sort of gotten a panicked look when they pick him up and make noises such as "Ah, um.. um..". Maybe I wave my hands feebly at them too..

But.. so.. yeah. No one touch my dolls, please, unless you know how to handle them! :(

    14. I'd agree with this! The only kids i've let hold my Rei are 2 kids i do karate with (9 & 10 year olds) and i explained that he was very expensive to them upfront. They were fine with him, just sat him on their knee to have their pic taken, and then afterwards raced around the house finding things to his scale we could photograph. Adults have been far more grabby and want to undress him for some reason!

    15. I let them hold her, but I told them how to do so, and I always stay around to have an eye on them.

    16. I've never actually let a kid hold my dolls, but I'm not around kids that much so that could be it.

I had my demon boy at the mall with me the other day, along with some of my friends dolls and a woman called us over to admire them and her children were asking to hold them. I contemplated letting them hold my Kyren since he's tiny and I wasn't worried they would drop him, but since I didn't know the kids I just felt a bit nervous.

    17. I'd probably only let my cousins Jessica and Nicole handle them. They are both incredibly sweet :)
I might let my nephew Justin touch, but I doubt he'd be interested as he is more interested in video games, monster trucks, legos, and wrestling ( his middle name is Stone, named after the Stone Cold Steve Austin wrestling figure I gave him when he was a baby :3 )
But my brother (who is only a year younger than me) is a big hell no. He's taken alot of things from me before, expensive things, just because he liked it. He's stolen my cell phone before and gave it to his gf so they could use the free minutes..... effing bastard :| ..... but I got my phone back after leaving a threatening message on it. Now I have a couple DVDs and Video Games missing :| .....

If anyone handled anything of mine roughly, you bet there would be a firm bitch slap involved! I don't put up with anybody's bullsh*t child or adult! :x

    18. Yup, s'long as I know.

I have five neices and nephews under six right now, and out of those, only one doesn't think my Jan is terrifying.

When I first got him in, I was going insane trying to get the box open. Johnny, about a year and a half at that time, was just staring at the box like: "What's in it?" he ran away while I opened it with a knife (Because, hey, no matter how old you are, you know not to be around me and knives) he came back as I was prying the box open. He kept on trying to help me get the box apart (And is in all of my pictures. He had a ball with the elfdoll padding.)

And then the box opened. And Johnny wanted the boy in the box. XD I put some pants on him, and then opened up the box with the damaged face on it, without eyes. Andrew, five, started getting kinda freaked out, and both he and his little sister condemed it as 'Scary'. Johnny started screaming, hands out, wanting that head. So, I gave it to him. He just stared at it in amazement. XD When Jan was fully dressed, Johnny kept touching his hand, then moving up, finally poking his face and knocking off his hair. He took one look at me and RAN.

Now, whenever he comes over to my place, he looks around the house for Jan, who is his buddy. XD He doesn't mess with his hair anymore, but that doesn't stop him from touching his feet. Oddly enough, he's never tried to pick him up. Probably because they're about the same in height. XD

Johnny's in the hospital right now. If he doesn't get out soon, he's going to be getting a visit from his buddy. :3

    19. My 9 year old niece ripped one eyelash off of one of my Blythe dolls earlier in the year. The doll has since been fixed, but now I'm very careful when I let anyone touch my dolls. She loves dolls, but she admits that she just can't help herself and always cuts their hair off and abuses them! Hey, at least she admits it! My new Pipos Baha is going to remain untouched by anyone other than me or my husband. She is just way too delicate and expensive.

    20. As there are no small children in the neighborhood I live in, I haven't had to worry about that. A couple of my friends have played nicely with my boy and girl, because they have a mild (or not so mild lol) interest in BJDs themselves. My 1 year old niece will be in the area more often, once my sister moves back from Hawaii, but I'm not sure how she will handle them as I don't know her personality very well yet. She was a sweet baby and easily amused, but that always has the capacity to change >.<

*edit*I've moved into a house with a small child, and I would not let this little boy ANYwhere near my BJDs. He doesn't listen to his parents at all, so I don't think he'd listen to "Be careful" in reference to them.
