Children handling your dolls?

Jan 17, 2007

    1. It would depend on who the children were to me. If they were rough and tumble sorts I'd hestitate to let them play with them, but otherwise I think it'd be ok as long as we talked about how to hold/gently play. :) Children can be more respectful than lots of adults when it comes to that kind of thing. :-P

    2. I have little cousins that are about 8-10 years old. I would let some of them hold my doll to be if they had clean hands and were super careful. Plus if they have a history of being careful it helps. One of my cousins for sure though would definitely not have permission. I dunno if it’s because he is still young of he or psychotically hyper but most things he tends to handle roughly ie: my poor dwarf hammy and my knickknacks. I agree with most people that permission varies from individual kid to kid.

    3. I don't even like it if adults touch my bjd, I can't look away until they put him down! So the answer is: no children around my dolls! Accidents happen and with children it's even more impredictable.

    4. My cousin awe my dolls too. Although he is a naughty boy but he gazed at my dolls in awe. Never touch them. XDDD Because he know they are my treasure and I warning him when he was 7years old...XDDDD (intimidated child?)

And my family, my grandma...etc also love my dolls too.
They always buy a little thing for my dolls.

That is soo sweet, your family buying things for your dolls! you are very lucky to have a family so supportive of your hobby.

now on to the topic! I have 3 boys so my dolls are "Mummy's special things" that are not to be played with. They are kept up high to make sure there is no temptation to play when I am busy.
But my 6 and 4 year old love them ( the 3rd is only a baby) and I do let them touch and hold them if they ask me and they are well supervised while doing so. And of course they love that I have eye balls in containers in my wardrobe! boys will be boys

    6. Wow that sounds alot like what happened to me. ( i own a twingkey tooo!)
I have a 5 year old cousin and when she came over I showed her my doll. I had told myself i wasnt going to show her that the wig comes off or that she can have different eyes. My little sister went and told her anyways and the unexpected response was, OMG COOL. from then on she comes over and says I wanna hold her or tell her i said hi! xD (I have pictures of her playing with her) When she was headin' home she was liike MOM I want ONE! xD you can imagine what my aunt said to that one. (needless to say she isnt getting one ever)

    7. My daughter Eva is now 4 and has been holding my dolls since she was 2. She is very respectful and careful, she knows all thier names and is very observant about costume/wig changes. I have also let her take one of my minis, Sunday, my Soulkid Sweeney to meetups. She understands about treating other people's property with care.
That said I don't believe randomly handing an object worth hundreds of dollars to a child to be a good idea. I think though with proper prep and supervision I'd rather have one of my kids hold my dolls than some adults.

    8. this would ENTIRELY depend on the child. there are some kids that i wouldn't trust with a bouncy ball, and there are some i'd trust with a crystal vase.

hell. there are some adults i wouldn't trust to touch my dolls (my ex would twist ludovic's legs around at odd angles and i wanted to punch him in the face for it).

    9. the only contact my boy ever had with a kid was a toddler that was being held in their parents arms at a convention. The kid grabbed Matts wig right off his head D: and the parent walked away too! I had to run after the person to get my wig back. I don't trust my most precious posession with kids..

    10. Hehe, it really depends on the disposition of the kid invovled. I was at a meet in a park one time when a family with a baby and an (I'm guessing here) 6-8 year old girl walked up. Both kids were :aeyepop: but I didn't let them hold my girl, mostly cause I didn't know them. If I had know them for a while, maybe. As long as they were more calm natured, I think it would be fine.

    11. My daughter is 10 and I will let her touch and play with my dolls. Unfortunately she doesn't want to play with the resin dolls because she doesn't want to break them. I've even told her they are more sturdy than she thinks, but she still doesn't want to take the chance. I am getting her a vinyl BJD so we can still play with BJDs, but she won't feel so concerned about breaking it.

As for other kids....no way unless I knew how they would be and even then if it isn't my own child, I probably wouldn't.

    12. I'm a after school care counselor, and i bring my doll with me. All the kids love her. They want to hold her and see her. so i tell them two hands, dont touch the face and u have to sit right next to me. My doll really seems to like the attention. It's so cute!! they carry her lk if she were a baby XD. With these kids I trust becuz they really do listen to me when i tell them two hands, dont touch the face, and sit right next to me.

    13. I'm always careful and keep my eyes peeled but I've let my neighbor handle her (she was only 4 years old at the time) But she was super careful. I told her that she could do whatever she wanted as long as she didn't touch her face and I explained that she was painted by hand.
I've also let my fiancé's nieces handle her, they are older, about 8 or so, but for some weird reason I don't trust them as much as I trust my neighbors daugher :P

I would definitly let other kinds handle her aswell as long as I am there and as long as the kids have clean hands :)

Most people are even TOO careful while handeling my doll, as if she would break at the touch, so I keep telling people that as long as they don't scratch her face or bang her into the floor she will be ok :P

    14. I think for me it would depend on if I knew the child and how they already felt about the dolls.
Like..My boyfriend has two brothers, one is 15(I believe) and the other is 10.
Well the 15 year old one already finds them creepy and I fear he'd break my doll if he ever got his hands on him, the smaller one though I don' know how he'd act.
I'd also not just hand my doll off to some random little kid on the street, I wouldn't mind showing but I'd be scared of them taking off with it or dropping it or something...I guess it just really depends on the kid.

    15. It would have to be a VERY exceptional child for me to be willing to let a kid touch Harumei, let alone play with her. This probably comes from the fact that, when I was growing up, there was exactly one little girl I knew (out of all of my relatives and my entire circle of friends and their siblings) who I would have trusted with anything of mine, be it a something sturdy or something fragile. I admit, when it comes to my fragile and expensive things I'm not very trusting of other people, so yeah. While there is the possibility that, someday, I'll run into a very clean and gentle and calm and trustworthy kid and be willing to let said kid touch Harumei (and whoever else has made it home by then), for right now no kid is getting anywhere near my girl.

    16. I make sure that Children wash their hands with soap and water and they dry them completely before touching my dolls. But the only children around here that will come anywhere near my dolls is my brother, who sits there and tries to figure out how it works. and my very inquisitive niece who talks with them for hours on end. I love it when Victoria sits with my dolls and talks to them because its only then I can take pictures like this:

and what Victoria didn't know at the time was that Dannie REALLY wanted the marble she had in her pocket.

    17. I might someday. The youngest person ever to hold my doll was 15 years old. And I knew that she would be careful with him. However, my 9month old nephew found my doll and was able to climb up onto my chair, and get him off the desk, my poor Niran needed a new face up after that! half his eye was scratched up because my nephew stuck half my dolls head in his mouth. He hasn't been allowed in my room since.

    18. I think its best to warn children about them. Tell them if they want to touch it, they need to keep their hands clean and make sure they sit down somewhere to hold it. My neice is not allowed to just grab and go, she needs to wash her hands and sit down somewhere then i sit my doll in her lap or next to her.

    19. Gwahhhhh!! D:

    20. It really depends on who the kids in question are. Some children I know I would totally let them touch my dolls and stuff, because I know for a fact that they're really careful and gentle with handling things. Most of the time though, no. I know for a fact that I would die before I would let my former next door neighbor's kids touch my dolls. They are really careless, violent, and uncaring with everything they touch and handle. The girl ripped her barbie's hair out and broke off an arm and a foot... *_* And the boy... let's not even go there.

EDIT: I think that goes for even teens and adults... it really depends on how well they take care of their own possessions and how careful they are about handling other people's stuff. I have a great friend who I know is NEVER going to touch any of my dolls, because she is the most careless person in the world when it comes to handling things. She drops her cell phone and ipod onto the floor at least twice a week, and all her "prized possessions" are thrown somewhere in her room, collecting dust and probably torn, broken, or frayed... x_X
