Children handling your dolls?

Jan 17, 2007

    1. I will let my daughter play with my dolls if it's just us playing together. If she's by herself or with other kids, she has to play with her own dolls. I often let her borrow clothes, though. Sometimes I even get them back.

    2. of course its fine im actually 10 years old and i own my own doll most of the paint is on the face so you just be careful with the head and touching it the body is also careful from chipping but it dosen't have paint but i have pipos baha it might be diffren't with another doll

    3. My roommate's little brother plays with our dolls all the time. He's very careful about it, because we've made sure to tell him these dolls are very precious.

We never let him handle them unsupervised, though, and never for very long, because kids will be kids and you can't complain about a kid ruining your doll if you don't take precautions against that in the first place.

Our group usually holds meets in big public places, too, and we've had some curious kids and parents drop by. Sometimes someone will let a really interested kid hold one of the dollies, though someone else is standing by to tackle that kid of they try to make a run for it. If they end up having something sticky on their hands, well, SOMEONE'S got cleaning supplies, and really? Having to clean a little lollipop goop off of a doll leg is a small price to pay to see a that look of little kid awe. You know the one, with the big eyes and the very quiet, under-the-breath "WOOOOOOOOW.". Especially because you know when that kid is of age, and they go looking for their first doll, they will always think about "that one lady/man in the park who let me hold theirs when I was little" and smile.

    4. budah, according to these rules you're actually 3 years too young to be a member of DoA. You have a join date of 2005 - which means you must have joined when you were 6, by my reckoning! :eusa_naug

    5. The only kids I know, be it relatives or acquaintances' kids, I wouldn't trust to handle my dolls. Frankly I wouldn't trust them to hold a rock. ^_^; None of them seem to have much respect for belongings, theirs or others.

I could just be overly critical of children. XD I don't know. But I can't think of any kids I know that I would let handle my dolls.

    6. I'll let my older nephew touch them if I know he has clean hands, and only for a small period of time. He usually loses interest pretty fast, but if he gets a glimmer in his eye, I send him away from them quickly. I would never let him touch them without my own supervision or for actual play, but since he's just a curious kid I'll give in every once in awhile.

One time, he touched the hair of one and she fell back a bit. He jumped back and looked at me in pure fear that I might kill him, even though I just laughed it off. I have a feeling he won't be mischievous with them any time soon.

    7. I don't think I would. But it's not because I don't trust children (when I was 10 myself and a bit younger I remember being really cautious with things and I'm sure there are children like that here and there) it's just because nearly all the children that I know aren't really careful at all. My relatives wouldn't really know how to be cautious with one either. *remembers when they took a Barbie holding it by the legs and swinging it back and forth in mid air* they'd probably wouldn't even know the difference--or more likely acknowledge it--between one of those dolls and a BJD, regardless you telling them that. They might even threaten to hold it over a fire. Ah. xD

    8. I don't really care for children. Don't get me wrong, I'm good with kids--little ones love me--but they're awkward and unpredictable and I wouldn't trust some with Barbies, let alone my girl. I went to my step-sister's house recently, and she has two children: a daughter, four, and a son, two. They're both really sweet kids and all, and I'm sure that they would be careful with Freya, but I didn't risk it--I left her at home. Let's face it, accidents are prone to happen with kids, and as sweet as any of them are, I won't risk it with the little ones.

    9. HAHA! A lot of you seem to think little kids are monsters, and while some of them may be NOT ALL are like that. Ah, well to each his own. To me it depends on the kid. If he or she can prove they'll be careful, understand the dolls are fragile, sure they can play with him. And this coming from a person who doesn't like kids very much. But I don't "hate" them. Hate is such a strong word to say about a child....

    10. You hit the nail on the head for me right there. The proving they can be careful has to happen first for me, so known kids? Not so much an issue as strangers. But then, any strangers make me uneasy when it comes to handling things I spent a lot of money on.

    11. i wouldnt let strange children hold my doll without their parent there to let them know that it is an expensive doll and if they break it, they pay to fix it. The only people that i know with kids would probably be offended if i didnt let them hold my doll, so i just wont bring her around. My best friend has a AWESOME two year old daughter who i love to death, and she has her own Hojo (i think thats what it is) and her mom has a Bobobie, but i wouldnt let her play with my doll. Im actually trying to avoid the situation arising where we are all together with our dolls, because the baby wont understand why she can play with her mommas doll and her own, but not mine. She is pretty spoiled and her mom lets her get away with a lot of stuff that she shouldnt (this coming from the moms own mouth, so im not bad mouthing her parenting or anything..lol) and i just wouldnt want to cause problems and have a screaming kid pulling a fit. Is that mean?

Although, i guess if she can prove that she takes good care of her little Hojo, then maybe she could play with my girl. It all depends.

    12. Loool... yeah, I thought that was a pretty weird post too.

As for me, luckily I haven't had to deal with a kid and doll situation before, and really, I plan to try and keep it that way. I don't really like kids so much, but I'd probably feel crappy for saying no to some poor shy kid.

    13. I tend to be territorial anyway, so I generally don't let anyone touch my dolls, let alone children XD Then again, I'm not around children often, I guess it would depend on WHO the kid was and how responsible he could prove himself/herself to be.

    14. I only own a Blythe and a Brownie. My SD played with my Blythe but she was kinda rough with yanking on the pull string. When I asked her to help me name my Brownie but refused to let her hold her, she lost interest.

I don't think she's ready for these kind of dolls. She did ask for a Blythe.

    15. i don't think i would let a child use my doll maybe hold it for a few minutes but these dolls are not made for children therefore i don't believe they should be handling them but i think kids are cute and if one ever had an interest in abjd then i think i wouldn't mind as much

    16. I am scared that I will mess things up so I have to say no kids around the dolls for me! The thought scares me!

    17. No way, the kids around me are usually my cousins, and they played ROUGH! Like kicking, punching, so no way .3.

    18. Oh, no. No. I wouldn't let kids handle my dolls at all. I'm only just confident enough that I can handle them without thinking I'll break them. xX; I'm awkward around kids anyway, I get anxious around them, so it's not a good mix even without the extra anxiety of them holding one of my dolls.

But then, I probably would hesitate to even let my mother handle my dolls. xD; The only person other than myself who has free reign over moving and posing my dolls is my best friend. My aunt is allowed, but doesn't usually because she knows how I feel about it, haha.

    19. I don't think I would dare to let a child handling my dolls because I know that they usually are not so careful when handling other things o.O

    20. Oh god no, I honestly find children to be horrid, filthy creatures. :sweat The thought of grubby little hands coming anywhere close to one of my dolls absolutely terrifies me.
