1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Choosing dolls vs choosing doll makers?

Jan 15, 2007

    1. i really do stay with luts-- all my dolls are from eluts.com
i just really like their dolls--i like everything about them(cps) and they have very fast customer service.

    2. In theory, I pick dolls based on their sculpts... If I really like them, it doesn't matter who made them.

As it's worked out in practice, though... I seem to have a definite bias towards liking sculpts from a few particular companies more than others. The majority of my crew are either Cerberus Project sculpts, Volks, Luts or Soom.

    3. LOL, I'm like Brightfires. Of all 17, 15 are CP. The others is a Volks Ken and Unidoll 08.

    4. I stay with DIM dolls. They are so cute! I like cute...I think they have the best sculpts.
      -Jessie :)

    5. I look around a lot, but it seems like only a couple companies have molds that really strike me like other companies. I don't think it's totally about loyalty, it's just the way it's ended up. In fact, all the dolls I want in the future seem to be from the same two companies.

It also helps if I start looking for dolls that are supposed to have a family resemblance.

    6. I go for faces more than companies. Although, out of my current five, two are from CP. They just happen to fit the personalities I needed to house.

    7. All I care about is the face/sculpt. If I like it, I'll try and get it but I don't really care about the dollcompany it comes from.

    8. Rose and I like what we like, doesn't matter what company they're from. We love Dollshe, DoD, DIM, CP... ect ect. However, currently of our 5.5 dolls 3.5 are CP. The CP molds just seemed to work out best for our Calysta characters. Santino and Aiden are both CP sculpts, our three fates and the main characters Pik and Miku are all suited to CP dolls along with a few other characters. So in terms of that story/set of characters we've taken a particular bias to CP. There are some doll companies that you can really mix and match and they look awesome together. I just don't see too many other companies that have dolls I find I really like with CP dolls.

But I'd love someone to prove me wrong, because quite frankly I'd really like a DoD I-ra for Blair but some how I just don't think she'd look good with a Tan Lishe.

    9. I buy the sculpts that appeal to me, which just happens to be mainly from Volks, Elfdoll and Happydoll, with a smattering of other companies represented. Then I work out what character I want them to be. You could say I make it up as I go along :D

    10. I actually set out to buy from as many different companies as possible when looking for doll forms for my characters. I figured that if I bought them all from one or two companies they'd all look tooooo related. That's fine if they're brothers but not when they're boyfriends. I want my doll cast to be as different from each other as real people are. I'll probably end up with more Volks dolls than anything else, but it's incidental.

Certainly I feel more comfortable buying from companies I've already done business with and that have proven to have quality products and excellent customer service but I don't let that stop me from trying something new.

I do love certain companies with a passion even if I don't buy more than one doll from them. I show my loyalty by giving them good reviews when people ask about them and answering questions about their dolls.

Can I say enough nice things about Custom House? Or how much I love Hyper Maniac dolls? :aheartbea

    11. I just know what I like and its their faces I am most attracted to. It doesn't matter which company manufactured them.

    12. There are a lot more factors than just faces, to me. Resin quality, posability, durability, body aesthetics, customer service, ease of finding products that fit the doll, originality, business ethics, and artistic integrity are all extremely important to me. I like to know who makes these dolls, why and how the company was made, how much history it has and whether they want to preserve and document it for the fans to view and know. Volks does all of these things for me. I find some other company dolls appealing, but only certain parts of them, there's always something that bothers me about a doll or company that prohibits me from buying anything but Volks, for the time being. I'm open to new companies and their dolls, but it takes a lot to impress me.

    13. I didn't set out to have 5 of my 7 dollies from the same company. I just prefer the head sculpts from Bluefairy over many other companies. Most of my wishlist is from other companies however, so maybe that just means I wanted to buy my Bluefairy wishlist first. :sweat

Sometimes I do feel a little sad that I don't have dolls from a wider variety of companies.

    14. Personally, I just go for any doll I fall in love with. |D;; I'm not too picky with doll makers or anything like that. But yeah, on the other hand, I do guess I like to explore and pick different dolls from different companies. It's exciting X3

    15. The fact of the matter is... I like CP dolls. Not because I feel any loyalty to the company in particular, but just because I like their style. :)

    16. I like learning about all kinds of dolls and sculpts because I never know what sculpt will interest me next. I'm a big fan of volks sculpts, but I also love uncommon body styles and I am always on the lookout for a neat headsculpt such as Batchix's Bastian (I really really want one)..

So, really..I usually think of each doll as an entity unto themselves before 'matching' them to other dolls. My only exception to this is this summer, when my friend and I will go to Sumika in LA to do a FCS together and make 'matched' dolls. :) I have love for all dolls and all companies.

    17. I'm not loyal to any company at all (though I might favor getting a certain doll if it's available through a company I've dealt with and like).

If I like a face, I like a face, regardless of where it comes from and regardless of the one who makes it. I try to search as many places as I can before I "cement" what doll I want for a certain character.

    18. If I buy a doll, I don't look at which company it comes from but how nice the dolls look like.
Companys don't matter to me that much.

    19. I always look at the aesthetics first, but my decision will always be tempered with knowledge gathered about the company that makes the prospective doll. I'm a newbie of a doll person (one very loved doll so far), but I'm already trying to inform myself as much as I can about these things. Doll quality matters to me just as much as the beauty of the sculpt.

    20. I dont really care about the company that the doll is from only the face and body sculpt. However, I do tend to lean towards CP dolls and most of my planned dolls are from luts (the exception being a DOT Lahoo) :)
