1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Choosing dolls vs choosing doll makers?

Jan 15, 2007

    1. I've always wanted a Petite AI from Custom House, and use to look at their site.. I still don't recall how I came upon their site. But I wanted the pink haired girl in the banner, but she was sold out. :...(

Then there was a lovely pink haired Liebchen doll that I missed out on. :doh

But the 3rd time was a charm and I was able to get a SD from Volks. I really love their company, so my next two doll also came from them.

In the future I would like to get my hands on a Custom House doll, Tiny Elf, and a MSD.

I would rather have a mix of dolls from different companies.

    2. I've bought lots of dolls from lots of companies. In lots of sizes and lots of scales. *_*

About half as many companies as dolls, though; very often I'll find more than one doll absolutely calling me from the same hand.

It's all about the face, and to some extent the body.

And I don't have a problem with wildly differing scales, such as OrientDolls next to Volks SDC.
But how I play in this hobby is not too much with the camera; I might care more if the camera emphasizes different scale and I took lots of pictures.

    3. All my dolls have been bought because I fell in love with the individual doll. Same with all the dolls on my "joining once funds permit" -list. It would really feel odd for me to think that I "have" to be "loyal" to a particular company. Even the siblings I have planned (three pairs of them), even though I'm really strickt about "family resemblance", ended up coming from different companies

    4. all the dolls i like are from 3 brands. I generally like certain types more, i like Delf, Volks and DZ dolls generally. I dunno, it's the struture of the companies i like. I would like to own one of each but i think i would have to go with the same company again if i get another doll, cos i like him and he's more affordable to me.

    5. I'm more loyal to sculpt looks than to company.
DoD dolls were the first I fell in love with. I saw an BJD in person at an anime convention and thought it was gorgeous, but when I looked online, I didn't like most of the dolls I saw. DoD were the first dolls I really thought "WOW" about.
But somehow I bought my first doll from Luts. I supposed it partially because I wanted a fullset Shall, but there was no way I was willing to pay that much money for my first doll. Also I'm impatient.
I plan to get another Luts doll, (and even though the new one is supposed to be the twin sister of my current doll, I'll be getting a different face sculpt and body type) and I still plan to get a DoD or two.
And since then I've fallen in love with a Leeke Tiny as well. (another fullset I'll probably never get :( )

It's definitely more about about the look than the company, though I don't really like very varied looks.

    6. For me it's about the doll sculpt, mainly the face. I could care less of Brand A is better than Brand B in terms of whatever. I want what I like. ^_^

    7. I look at almost all of the doll companies. I look more at the faces and such and only look at the ones I think are more my style. For instance my first doll is DZ Yumei and the next one that I am saving up for now is a DOD U. All in all they have to appeal to me first but as for the dollmakers yes not all are the same but personally that's what I feel will make my family different.

    8. I so far have two dolls from two different companies, and I will get another from another different company. For me, it's the sculpts that speak out to me.

(But of course, if I were to get some magical money, I would snap up dolls from the companies I already bought from in an instant! Since I had such good time dealing with them.)

I like exploring different company makes and models. It is really quite interesting.

    9. I am with you there. Word for word.

    10. I don't think I'm intentionally loyal to a doll maker in particular because I choose dolls (regardless of company) based on how much I think their facial / body characteristics fits the existing characters that I drafted for them. However, normally the same sculptor from the same company will tend to keep producing styles that matches my preferences, so I end up buying from them often. XD;

I only have 2 dolls and both are from different companies so I can't say much, but by the time I finish saving, 2 out of 3 dolls I have will be from LUTS. =D If you see my wishlist, I also love Elfdoll K, which is the same company I got my first girl from.

    11. I thought in the begining that I might stick with dod, but now the thought of having two dolls with the same body bothers me. I think I want more diversity, I don't want all my dolls looking the same. All the ones on my wishlist right now are different brands but keeping that in mind I want dolls that will look good together stylistically.

    12. I have some favorite companies... but my dolls will be pretty varied once I get them all. And they look quite different from eachother, so I have to try pretty hard to MAKE them match. But yeah, if I fall for a doll, I fall for it. I can't deny it to stay with one company, so I'm stuck. (though I wish I could. My Lati boy looks VERY strange next to my Volks f-16 girl. o.O Yet I love them both soooooo much!)
If and when I'm biased toward a company, it tends to be for the most posable/stable body. If I like a head sculpt, I'll take it from ANYWHERE.

    13. dolls~~=0=~I'm a makers because....

    14. I tend to gravitate towards Luts, but I do have dolls from other companies. For me, I pick the doll, and it;s really just co-incidence that all the heads I like are from one company.

    15. Hmm.. well my current dolls are all from different companies, but if I were to buy only from one company I'd probably by from Luts/CP because I find all of their dolls gorgeous~ I also like Volks though.. but that may be because they have parties XD;

    16. Personally, I go by what the character looks like as opposed to the company; I've got one Volks for one of my girls, I'm going to Iplehouse for another, and likely Luts after that. It depends on the demands of the character (and of course, who has the parts - why buy something else from Volks when Luts has the right eye shape AND color available for the girl's look?)

    17. I have yet to buy two dolls from the same company, in fact I have one doll with a head from one company and a body from another. However this has little to do with any particular brand loyalty or lack there of. I pick based on the individual sculpt. There are some dolls on my wish list that are from doll companies I have already bought from and some from companies I haven't. I really don't actively think about the company when I buy.

    18. I'm not at all loyal, as I go entirely by sculpt and am attracted by a lot of different kinds of looks. I've bought some dolls because I thought they were breathtakingly beautiful, one because he made me laugh nonstop for two days, one because I thought her size would be fun, and one because she frightened me. All of them have been from different sculptors (although I bought two from the same clearinghouse company.) I can see really getting into company identity; it's like having a team to cheer for, and there are some companies that unerringly make gorgeous dollies. Unfortunately, being crazy about one company has developed a bad stigma over the past couple of years because there are a few people out there who overzealously justify their love for a company and make the rest of the owners look bad. :)

    19. I buy dolls which I fall for, no matter who the maker is. There are certain companies I will look at first because I know I like their molds more, but I will and do buy from all over. If I fall for a doll, then that's it, and all I can do is hope that they'll look okay next to each other. :sweat

    20. I. Love. Bambicrony. I also have a thing for Serendipity, and collected all four Serendipity old-body girls. :) I sold my Sharmin, though.
I don't particularly collect my dolls from the same company to make them the same or anything, but if I find a company who makes dolls I like, I do tend to get more than one from them. :D
