1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Choosing dolls vs choosing doll makers?

Jan 15, 2007

    1. I find that some companies just make lots of sculpts that I like and others, I have no interest in. Where is the official sight for UNOA? I see lots of their dolls in the gallery and always appreciate them.

    2. As long as they look proportioned properly together I wouldn't care which company.

    3. I don't need to buy all of my dolls from one company, nor do they necessarily need to share an aesthetic. I do slightly favor Soom, since I love their sculpts and customer service. But I like dolls from many other companies too! For my dolls that share a storyline, I try to have them as cohesive as possible when it comes to aesthetics and size so they will look good when photographed together.

    4. I look more at how the doll looks before I might deside to buy it. I also check to see if the seller isn't a copier of dolls. But I do that with everything I buy

    5. When I go to buy a new doll I don't base it on the company as much as being drawn to a certain sculpt. There are a couple companies that I know make quality dolls and usually like their sculpts so I have two dolls from each company (LoongSoul and Luts), so I check their websites before checking others.

    6. I mainly stick to one company for the big dolls so they look good posing together. I do have one older artist-made head that I will buy after the holidays if the seller still has her though, and there's a few things from other companies besides Soom that catch my eye. I might buy some once I am caught up with my wishlist.

To me it doesn't matter so much for the smaller dolls since they're faery-types who can look really weird together, and that's fine with me. :XD: I don't know why looking weird together isn't okay for the bigger dolls though. I think it's an eye-size/head-size issue. If it's too off-scale it's hard to photograph, and it's more obviously off-scale in larger dolls.

    7. Noppin.com has a small site for ordering Unoa. http://noppin.ocnk.net

This is the official site http://www.alchemiclabo.com

For me it is the sculpt itself. Though usually if I buy a doll from one company it is more likely that I will buy from them again.

    8. I do have a bias towards some companies, haha. My 11 dolls (heads included) are from 5 different companies, but the ratio is more like 2 Luts, 4 Migi, 2 Leeke, 1 Esthy, 1 Elfdoll, 1 Zaoll.

    9. I am very loyal to Dollshe. I don't buy JUST because it is Dollshe, but I like most of their sculpts, I like their bodies, I like how they pose, how they look when painted.... the only thing I hate is how difficult it is to get a wig that fits well.

      I have 19 dolls. 4 Dollshe, 2 Ringdoll, 2 Volks, 2 Switch, 2 Soom (both Dia Boy), 1 Mystic Kids, 1 Dollzone, 1 Elfdoll, 1 Limhwa, 1 Spiritdoll, 1 Souldoll, 1 Iplehouse.

The only companies I'm really interested in are Dollshe, Ringdoll and Iplehouse. I can't see myself owning any other dolls from those other companies I already have one.

    10. I currently only collect tinies, and very few companies make mature tinies. I will probably only every have one doll from DIM because their Honey line has been discontinued. I love Soom's Fairy Legend series, and the 1/6 scale Lume dolls. I can see myself owning Resin Soul minis in the future, along with Fairyland minifees. I like fantasy dolls, and unusual faces tend to appeal more to me. So it's more about scale and aesthetics then company loyalty.

    11. I tend to get hooked on a company if I am pleased with their work and service. People tell me I need to diversify more but I love to have twins and triplets of dolls I love from companies I trust.
Just my way f collecting. :)

    12. so far i only own dolls from Volks. But i am looking at other sites and i see dolls which i would love to own. i think for me its about the vibe the doll gives out :) If its interesting then i must have it.

    13. I don't try to make my dolls the same, but I don't try to make them different. I just buy the ones I like.
I mostly own or have owned Iplehouse, Fairyland, Dollshe and Soom.
I've had one Obitsu that is now a head because I didn't like the plastic body.
Have an Elfdoll head on order that I am planning on putting on an Iplehouse body.
I like a lot of other dolls as well, from different companies, just haven't owned them yet :)

    14. I think for me it really deppends on the mold, not so much the doll maker. Well, I do look up reviews on the doll company once I have my eyes set on a mold, but every one of my dolls is from a different brand because those were the sculpts that I fell in love with.

    15. I actually sort of do this by accident..when looking for new sculpts I automatically go to Fairyland, Luts, Soom or Iplehouse because I'm familiar with them and know that I like them. Sometimes I forget there are other companies and occasionally I stumble across one and am pleasantly surprised by a cute sculpt they have! I think I tend to stick with the same 4 or 5 companies though because I've found the ones I like best.

    16. I used to be all Volks and Luts back in the day, but I find myself looking at all kinds of sculpts from all different companies this time around. My first purchase after all these years is with a company, that so far, has been fantastic and catered to my every need. I am sure that I will buy from them again in the future, but the sculpts from different companies will pull me in too!

    17. I personally tend to shop by character rather than company. I will however, be loyal to a company and be more inclined to look there first for a mold I like if they have 1) a good product, 2) good customer service, and 3) good reviews. One of the reasons I like Mint on Card so much is the wide variety of dolls, companies, and great costumer service. I've also found dealing with Iplehouse is pretty good in terms of customer service.

    18. Well... If I'm on the lookout for a mold to fit a new character, I DO tend to go checking in first with companies (or retailers) that I already have had good experiences). That doesn't stop me from looking elsewhere if I don't find anything that fits. Actually, even if I DO find something that fits, I keep looking around, sometimes asking for help here if I have a picture of someone that fits what I'm looking for.

That's how my collection ended up with 40+ dolls at the moment and I think the maximum are 5-6 dolls from one company, then 3 or 2 from others, but mainly solos ^^°

    19. There aren't any companies that I'm loyal to (yet) but there are certainly ones that I really like, such as Pipos and Luts, so I'm always keeping my eyes open when they release new sculpts. My doll family is rather small so I'd like to have a bit of variety before finding a brand that I really want to stick to, if I want to stick to one at all. Generally it's the sculpt that I go for rather than the sculptor who makes them. :)

    20. I would certainly like if all my dolls were from a single company, but usually I don't like several sculpts from a single artist... Even when I do, I might find them way too similar, and so it would be best to spend money on something a bit different - but that it would still look ok with my other dolls.
So in the end, I do tend to choose dolls over doll makers :|
