1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Choosing dolls vs choosing doll makers?

Jan 15, 2007

    1. I'm more partial towards LUTS and DOD sculpts. Ultimately I just go for whichever sculpt that catches my eye, but I primarily only look at those two websites.

    2. It's more of which dolls look good with the rest of my crew. Like my new girl Noah will fit in really nicely with the rest of my crew, she'll be her own character of course but she'll also look nice with my other MSD's and my Yo-SD.

    3. I am a loyal follower of Kaye Wiggs. But, I do like the DIMs. And I am starting to notice other doll artists. DIM is the only company that I like. I like following the artist. Liz Frost, Pat Moulton, Nefer Kane.

    4. I'm fairly new to the hobby and only have one doll so I think I mainly go for what the doll looks like. I love my souldoll but I want to check out other companies and see if anything catches my attention. I've already ordered an IOS head and another souldoll head. Plus I have made plans for and Akagi doll.

    5. I think I look at the doll. I went to a lot of maker pages and looked at the doll if I like them or not. Sure I have plans to buy my dolls at the moment from one maker but I still have some pages of dolls from other makers on my favorite list, but I will decided when the doll I ordered is arrives. ;)

    6. I really only like Iplehouse. The EID's of course. Naturally some of the biggest and most expensive dolls on the market. Of course!!

    7. I've got 4 different companies right now... I have 2 resin souls that are together and want more to be related to them, but at the same time its not because they're resin soul (tho I like that they are), it's because the sculpts work for my OC's... I like to have dolls that work for my characters, I like to say I have my grail DOD boy but at the same time, I want other dolls that are a lot cheaper and would mean just as much to me :)

    8. How about both? :sweat

I look for my characters, primarily, and when I decide against a doll, it tends to be because I haven't got a character for it. I bought my first doll from Dollzone because they just happened to have the perfect little Gawain. But at the same time, because I was happy with my first Dollzone boy, I have been keeping an eye on what Dollzone is doing and, well, my first BJD love wasn't a chance hit. Out of my 20 dolls, 5 are complete Dollzone dolls and two more are Dollzone hybrids.

Then there are my two favourite doll artists: Julia Cross (La Légende de Temps) and Gu Mi-jeong (MyDolling/Dollmore). I have no less than five LLT heads (!) for two of my main characters - but worse, even if future LLT creations won't suit any of my characters, I will have the hardest time not getting them :|. As for Gu Mi-jeong, I own six of her sculpts sold by Dollmore; and worst of all, I have doubles :...(. I can't help myself, I just adore her dolls. In the case of her work, too, I really have to do a serious effort to keep myself from buying everything she makes. It's ... difficult.

I also have a weakness for small companies run by a single artist. I feel like showing my support by buying from them. My latest discovery is Maskcat. I really haven't got any characters that suit her sculpts, but I kind of want one anyway :p.

    9. I'm partial to Luts and Fairyland since I've had the most experience with them. As for browsing for new dolls, I like having diversity but if my dolls are going to be apart of the same story I think they should have the same style. I mean, where have you seen a 3-dimensional, realistic looking character next to a 2-dimensional
blob together in one story? Of course I really couldn't care less if someone else did it that way but I'd like to keep everything the same. Even down to the face-up if possible.

    10. I buy dolls which I fall for, no matter who the maker is, because I look for my characters :D But I like Crobidolls (delicate and cute boys), IOS are sexy guys and Souldolls - very natural :)

    11. I keep tabs on all the companies just in case. I don't want to miss out on a doll that I would love because I haven't looked at that company before. However, I really adore Iplehouse, Migidoll, and Fairyland. I'm also starting to like Luts.

    12. I just get the dolls that call me out^^ having said that, I love Soom and I always get their tinies. In MSD I love DOD (just the heads, I'm not a fan of the bodies) and in SD I love variety lol I don't have a specific doll maker for SDs, I have 3 SDs and they're all from different companies.

    13. I look at the doll. I buy dolls which I fall for.
I collect only tiny and very few companies make them. That`s why company is not very important for me.

    14. I used to buy dolls from only one or two companies or doll artists but now I've ventured out and like a more unusual doll, more one of a kind. There are problems with that because they may not pose well together as some of the dolls have a more realistic look to them while others have more of a character look. Still I enjoy my small collection for the uniqueness of each individual sculpt. I am also looking at Maskcat too.

    15. I will buy dolls which I fall for . I like lots of companies but I'm more interested in DOD so I guess most of my dolls are from there . :)

    16. As long as they look nice with each other, I don't care much about who made them - but most of my current crew are Iples just because I love their sculpts. I have limited funds and space so I can't get every doll I love, or I'd have about 20 more ... I really like Migidoll's boys, but their sculpts have a teenage look about them and I don't have teenage characters :sigh So they're out of the question for now. What I am looking for are realistic sculpts, age 20 to 35 (well, one at 40+, but Simply Divine has that one covered ;)) and that really narrows down choices.

Add me to the MaskCat fanclub, too! I'm currently trying to justify buying one or two of their dolls because I really want to support Banyo, but it's really hard at the moment because I'm still on a tight budget. But four of her five dolls have already taken a seat on my Wish List, and the two SDs have decided on names and backstories ... so there's a good chance I'll get them at some point, maybe even this year :D

    17. So far, many of my dolls are from different companies but my wishlist tends to favor that one or two doll-maker for no other reason than because they make dolls in the size that I want.

    18. When I first began collecting my goal was to collect from as many different companies as possible as I wanted a very diverse collection in terms of companies. Of course I slipped up when my first two dolls wound up both being from Dream of Doll, but after them I think I did a pretty good job at keeping my options open. However, I was also very particular about ensuring that my dolls all really matched one another and have a similar aesthetic. I also think I've accomplished that rather well.

Now that I'm near the end of completing collection though, I have a clearer idea of what company's looks really work for me. I notice that my last few dolls I decided that I didn't care if they were from the same company or not, since the sculpts were exactly what I was looking for. Now I'm more than happy to have so many dolls from the same company, which in this case would be Doll in Mind. Their sculpts suit my tastes perfectly, I have three dolls from them already and plan on three more. So long as they all have different bodies from other companies (as I still don't like repeating sculpts), then that 's plenty of diversity for me.

    19. I'm fairly loyal to Lati I'm afraid. I'm thinking of adding a Fairyland girl to my collection but probably from their Littlefee line. I'm partial to tinies and so fair I haven't seen any other company with a mold that catch my eye as much as Lati's. Some have a cute head but I hate the body. I think there is a certain look I go for and I can't find it with other companies. Though I don't buy with Lati just because they are Lati, I just like their dolls moreso than other companies. I have gotten Yo sized dolls from other companies but they haven't really worked out in the end.

    20. I may have fallen in Love with Luts, and for a long time CP was the idal. Now it's no longer. I choose a doll, because basically, they choose me to. There are dozens of very beautyfull dolls out there, and of unic sculps I really admire, but non of them wants to come home, so they will never do.
Whom ever the maker is, if that person/company has the doll that calls to me, I'll buy it (if finantially possible).
