Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It took me years and years of looking through company after company, character creation, trial and error with matching doll to character, debate over size, saving money, etc. I originally wanted some chinese doll off ebay because it was cheap. Than I found luts and wanted a kid delf Aru, then a kid delf Kiwi, then I was SURE I wanted a kid delf Litchi. Then I wanted an SD but I couldn't find a sculpt I liked from Luts. I was browsing through other brand dolls they sell and found Bluefairy. I was stuck between TF May and Olive forever and then decided on May...or so I thought but they were too small. Then I was stuck between the two SDs, Diana and Alice. But finally, I chose Alice. This whole process took seven years. I bought all of her supplies or her faceup, wig, and made her clothes and finally purchased her.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I saw these beautiful owner photos of Alice and how versatile her look was I just had to have her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No. Not at all. I love her to pieces. I mean she was basically a grail doll.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It was Bluefairy Alice. And I just got her so yes I do still have it. Haha.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose it. I paid for half of it and my boyfriend generously paid the other half so while I shelled out quite a lot, I still consider her a gift. Without him I wouldn't have been able to get her.

 

How I decided which doll would be my first was sort of by chance and he caught my eye. He was a gift from my father when he noticed me gawking at him on the computer screen. My first was a Bobobie Apollo and he will never leave my side! NEVER! LOL

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I have looking a long time before to see him. 3 years. But when I have see him, I just purchase him for my birthday.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
He was so beautiful, and I think at the moment, I don't want another doll exept him. (I said : If I want a doll, I just want only one doll, and its him!)

Never ^-^ I'm very happy to have buy him. I never regret him, maybe ... I'm just unhappy with his hands. Because I just don't love the hands.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It was a Maya Boy from Doll Leaves, I still have him, and it's gonna be about more that 2 years. I still love him.

I just take my money at my birthday and purchase him.

 

I originally was going to get a Bobobie Isabella, then it shifted to Bei, March basically all of their littles, then I wanted an RS Ya which shifted to elf eared Mei, then I wanted an Obitsu MSD then I wanted a Resinsoul Gang, then I wanted an (OT) Hujoo Dana..It's literally been two years and I only recently found the doll for me BJD wise. Resinsoul Song and it was by chance because I was looking in the marketplace hoping to find a Yuz and I saw the thread and clicked it curious...

My breath was taken away. I knew HE was the one. I didn't want just any RS Song I wanted HIM...So I took the plunge.

 

Am I allowed to post even if I haven't gotten it yet? LOL...

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I rather sort of have fallen in love with the head sculpt of Char from Flower & Junior. They havent come out with a body (yet), so I've been looking for the perfect one before I order, since Char isn't limited edition and as of now he's only available in WS, and I'd rather have NS.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Someone had posted a link of some of F&J's offical photos for Char on an unusual/underground sculpt board. Needless to say I was in love.

Sometimes I get a little dubious, because it really will be my first doll and I don't know if I'll be able to make him as lovely as I'd like or find a body I really want.

ahh well it's going to be a F&J Char hybrid for sure!

Yes of course! Even with my limited budget (poor college kid, sigh.. lol), my birthday is coming up and I'd like to use the money from that towards him and a body.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I've always loved DOD and always thought I would get my first doll from them. Then I found out about Iplehouse (specifically the beautiful new YID body) and spent ages tossing up constantly between the two. I really wanted Shall from DOD, but then I wanted one of Iplehouse's nYID ladies.
... In the end I realised I had no space for either and went for a Soom Rosette Fir =_=
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Hmm, when I saw the pictures Soom had up of their steampunk Rosette series and fell for them, even though the events were long past. Out of the sculpts, I liked Fir best.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
There's actually a Rosette sculpt I like better... but it's not a basic that I can order. I'll be happy as long as another opportunity to order that sculpt doesn't crop up too soon ^^;

I decided on Emilly when i first saw her

I knew as soon as i saw she was a doll chateau(and when i saw her price)

Not at all, I'm glad I found her when I did, she's still very precious to me, I wouldn't trade her for the world.

Which doll was you first and do you still own it?
Doll Chateau Hilary, and yes I still own her, and I love her to pieces

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I knew that I didn't want a big doll, so it was a matter of finding a YoSD-sized doll whose appearance that I liked. I also wanted the doll to be affordable; I was quite leery of spending too much. I did a LOT of Google searching and searching on eBay which was where I saw a Bobobie Isabella. At first she didn't appeal to me that much but I did more searching and the more I searched the more interested in her I became.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I think probably when I learned that the 27cm Bobobie/Resinsoul sculpt could wear Liv doll wigs and Liv and Barbie clothes. I figured that was a good way for me to step into the hobby without worrying over what size wig to buy for my doll, where I was going to find wigs and clothes and all of that.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope, never did. The only thing I wish that I'd done differently was to be a little more patient when it came to my Isabella's layaway; if I'd been able to wait longer I would have been more prepared for her arrival as far as clothes and wigs were concerned.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a Bobobie Isabella, who I still own. I don't think I'll ever let her go.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Oh gosh... I looked for a lot of things specifically. I looked for an expression that was soft so I wouldn't get creeped out in weird lighting or something, low price since I only started my job then, and just a small enough size so it was manageable.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I looked at other dolls but I kept returning to her to admire her pictures.

I'm not sure really. I don't feel bonded or like I have dressed her how I want to dress her yet...

Well, he was the first doll that i fell in love with, sadly, he was $700 and no longer available by the time i was able to get a doll, so i picked the prettiest doll in my $400 budget i could find on ebay

When my boyfriend slapped the table in annoyance? XD i was being super picky =p

Well, I love her, but for some reason she's just not fitting in with the rest of the dolls i had planned to be her family, i may redo her faceup and give her a new outfit before i decide if i'm truely unhappy with her =p and yea, i wish i could have ordered a Luts SSDF Blue Knights Commander Abadon, but i have his head and armor now so its ok :3

I chose a Doll-Love Alice and yes i do :3 she's sitting on my dresser right now

I chose it, but it was a present =p i was given a price range and had to go below it =/ sadly, it wasnt the doll i REALLY wanted XD but i have most of HIM now :3

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't have a lot of money (and still don't lol) so I thought I actually would never be able to afford the 60cm like I wanted and I wasn't even interested in smaller dolls. I REALLY REALLY wanted Tan El.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I walked by a tan BBB Weylin at a convention, asked his price out of curiosity, and bought him on the spot.

Not at all. While he may not be my dream doll, I like him very much. I never found one in the price range of Weylin that I liked anyway.

I really didn't know, I knew I wanted a doll, but I also wanted something different that I could work with
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well, his price point was a deciding factor, along with the hooves. I think it was the hooves that made me fall in love with the sculpt actually.

Never, I'm so biased towards this sculpt, I'm thinking about getting another one, or the human version of him. When I first got Zarek though, I did second guessing myself, but that's before I knew anything about dolls.

Resinsoul Ming baby! And yeah I still own him!!

It was a little bit of both, I mean I did choose him, but he was also a birthday gift from my parents (hence the limited price point)

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I have a friend that was already in the hobby, so i asked her all my questions. Then she asked me what I would want in a doll. I told her I wanted an MSD size like hers, I wanted it to be a girl and an elf, but not cost like a crazy price. So she found me one through a great vendor on ebay and I was happy with the result.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I did look around a bit with the little knowledge that I knew of the hobby, but nothing could shake how much I was falling for that one doll my friend showed me.

Absolutely not, I'm very happy with my choice and wouldn't take it back for anything. She is still my favorite.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She is a MSD Doll Love ~God Enjoy (odd name they gave her, of course I named her to my choosing). She is still with me.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Once I decided I wanted a doll I researched extensively for dolls in the size range that I wanted that were within the $300 budget I had put aside for myself. I found a doll I liked from a well reviewed company that was a good price and that was that!
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well as I said before, researched for a good long while and the price was definitely a factor.

No way, he was a great doll and he didn't break the bank, I was really attached to him for a long time.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
He was a Dollfamily XiangYi, if I remember correctly off the top of my head. Still have him!

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked at many different dolls and as soon as I saw her face, I knew she was the one I wanted.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I wasn't sure at first, but I kept coming back to look at her. The price also helped me decide, she was expensive but not horribly.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No, not at all, I really love her face and her elven ears. I am waiting for another one, which I ordered afterwards, but I never regretted Rena (she doesn't have an actual name yet).

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She's a Dikadoll Rena and yeah, I still own her. I don't see myself selling her ever.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first
- I wasn´t supposed to have a doll. Maybe only for sewing clothes to dolls but never to own a doll. Until my friend showed the doll. I didn´t even think twice should it be other doll. It was too perfect. Doll fitted in my rpg character perfectly. So easy
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
- It was LE. My friend told me LE are going to sell fast. Decision had to be done quickly.

- Catish Doll - Black lac Reaa - LE30 and yes I still own it.

- It was present from my husband but I did choose my doll.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't really go in thinking about requirements or anything. I knew I wanted a doll based off one of my characters. I went to Luts because that was the place I got my very first doll several years ago on impulse (that I did not have for long, so I don't really count that as other than my first foray into the hobby).

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I debated for days whether to buy Abani. Kept pulling out my credit card just to tell myself I shouldn't and put it away. But I couldn't take my mind off of it. Finally I just went in and DID it.

Well, I haven't received her yet. Sine I've been waiting, I bought 2 other dolls that were in stock on MoC, for much of the same reasons I bought her. Couldn't take my mind off of them. And I love them, so I see no reason that I shouldn't love her.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I know I wanted an MSD size doll and I didn't want to spend a stupid amount. I also had my best friend who'd bought from the same company and she had a good experience. So because it was my first, I didn't want to just go and order from anyone, so I used the same site.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It took me over a year to find the doll I wanted. But as soon as I saw her picture, I fell inlove. I knew I needed her.

I love my JID Tania, but now I have her I have noticed just one problem: Her sculpt. Her body is a bigger build so nothing fits her. I don't wish I ordered another one though because her face makes up for that. I can always hybrid her!

I already had money saved up for her, I bought her on payday! I bought her myself. She wasn't a gift.​

My first doll was a Bobobie Apollo. I was originally going to a YoSD or a tiny, and a girl. I even had the sculpt picked out. But then... I was on DenverDoll and I saw a picture of the Apollo mold. I loved his nose! And I just knew immediately that that guy was for me when I saw him. A little while later, after I had started building a character for him, I saw a Light Tan Apollo on the marketplace the day I gained access. I took it as a sign and bought him. I still have this doll two years later and I love him. I could not have bought a better first doll! Even if I leave the hobby, he'll stay with me. He was totally not what I thought I wanted. He was SD and a boy! But definitely the right doll.
