Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jun 27, 2011

    1. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Honestly, it was a bit of an impulse buy, and I was really anxious after I ordered it.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
My price range was pretty low, but I had decided on getting a doll. I could afford it.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I'm not necessarily unhappy, but I do wish that I had done more research before I bought it. Shortly after I bought her I fell in love with a different doll.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Resinsoul Lan, and I do still own it.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      It was completely my choice.

    2. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well I looked around a lot after deciding on which part of my doll family to purchase first (was more than difficult making that choice with the family I have in mind)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I had wrangled it down to two choices but was waiting to see a couple box openings to see how the sculpts looked nude a.k.a. no make-up. After watching about 10 or so there was a video in the suggested videos bar, I thought 'what the heck I'll give this a whirl cause these other two still have me stumped.' Well lo-and-behold I fell in love with the sculpt for the character. At that point there was no other doll that would ever fit him better in my mind.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Currently he is on order but completely paid for, but I can say whole heartedly that I do not regret my decision to get this character first, and his sculpt is too perfect to ever regret so I am very happy.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll is a Doll Family H Nan Gong, and of course I will own this guy for the rest of my life.

    3. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, I originally did really want a DoD Homme Ducan as my first but I couldn't afford him. So, when I started looking into finally owning a BJD, I looked at cheaper dolls I liked (although not as much) for my first doll. But, thankfully, I waited and found someone selling a beautiful Ducan in the marketplace who was willing to allow me a long layaway that enabled me to buy Ducan as my first after all.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I fell in love with him instantly and when the seller agreed to a layaway, I knew he would be my first.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Not at all, I was incredibly happy with him when he arrived. I'm really glad I waited to get the doll I really wanted instead of going for a cheaper one I only sort of wanted or else I think I would have regretted my choice.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
As stated above, my first doll was a Dream of Doll Ducan, and yes I still own him. He is still the one I am most bonded with and I don't think I could ever part with him.

    4. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't have a lot of money, so I definetly needed to consider some dolls under $400 dollars + shipping and everything else I needed. I was going to get a guy doll, but there were no really good ones that I loved for that price!
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After months and months of narrowing dolls down, I actually didn't choose between my dolls. I found some 5stardolls at Denvor Doll Emporium, and that's where I found Becca. Since my name is Rebecca I was like "hey it has my name on it!!!"

    5. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I bought my first complete doll on a whim. Dreaming Doll had a special sale with a percentage off and free shipping. I went with a MSD because that's what I could afford at the time. I also thought a SD's size would have intimidated a first timer.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Upon looking at Dreaming Doll's Little Elva line, I fell in love with Misora and Airi. I decided on Misora WS because I loved her "doe" eyes plus she fit the character I had in mind. c:

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

Waiting for her to arrive was a bit stressful. I thought since it was an impulse buy I was going to regret it but, when I opened the box and was in such awe with her beauty.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Technically Misora isn't my "first." I had 3 heads before I bought her. I consider her my first because she wasn't just another floating head lol. And yes, I still have her!

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      Of course! At my age, working full-time, I'm the only one willing to buy a $300+ present for myself lolol ;_;

    6. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was looking and looking, watching reviews on pose ability and reading up on seller feedback. I wanted a slim girl with not so big bust sizes.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I fell in LOVE with with her head and can't even imagine my girl with any other. Her body had excellent pose ability, was in stock, and seemed to match her resin just fine.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I had some pre-box opening jitters, such as, "her chest is so flat, I hope she still looks mature!", and "I hope she's not too pink!) I'm still nervous about the resin match, as I havent received my head yet. But the body is amazing! :)
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
I chose a Doll-love Evol head and Loongsoul MSD body in pink skin, small bust!
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?Ohhh yes, I chose it, and it was frustrating as heck.

    7. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
He looked interesting, didn't seem to popular and was unique, the size was good for a starter.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I couldn't find anything I liked better, or felt like this would be a good doll to wet my feet.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Some times but I think he will be a good first. I'm still waiting on him to arrive though.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      Will be a DC Douglas.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes, I had a lot of extra cash on me so I was able to choose..

    8. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Because I seen a beautiful picture on the company website and my heart decided for me :)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
This doll was in my range of price, from a company with a good reputation

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
yes I was very unhappy : the doll I received didn't look like the doll I had seen in the picture

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      Souldoll soulkid Katie A.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
It was my choice because I thought that I will received the doll as the picture

    9. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I went to my first doll convention in HK (Dollism Plus 9 in Hong Kong) and Crobidoll was there. I could only spend around $300 so I had to pick a YO-SD size doll. The thing is, the doll I originally wanted was already sold out when I went on the second day and when I saw Lance in person, I realized that I liked him more than the one I wanted to get before, so I guess it was fate :')
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I couldn't afford anything else at that time and I figured that I should get a smaller doll first so I can learn how to take care of it.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I am content with my choice.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll is a Crobidoll E-Line Lance and he's my avatar ^^
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose it.

    10. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I knew I wanted a Pukifee, so I was trying to decide which sculpt to go with. I was browsing the Pukifee section on DDE and saw that a Pukifee was in stock. I hadn't been considering her, but after looking at pics of her, I decided she was the one!
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I started to lean towards buying her because I would be able to get her immediately rather than having to wait on a preorder, but it was after looking at owner pics of her that I really fell in love with her.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
While I was waiting, I did. I started to regret choosing a sculpt I hadn't considered beforehand in favor of one in stock. But when I saw her in person, I knew I had made the right choice.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      Pukifee Chocolate and yes.

    11. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I did not really have any particular idea of which sort of doll I wanted in the beginning. I thought I might want something more in the MSD range, and under $200. Then my SOOM Gena caught my eye as I was doing a search on eBay...I learned that the seller had no idea of her true value, and had listed her for way less than what she was worth.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Pretty much once I was able to affirm that she was legit, I went for her. She was a little more than what I had originally planned to spend on a doll, but she was absolutely gorgeous. There is just something about her little smirk that I love.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I'm not entirely unhappy with my first choice of doll, but I have had a harder time bonding with her and figuring things about her character out. I am glad that I got her when I did, because otherwise I might have missed out on her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a SOOM Cream White Gena, and I do still own her. I plan to keep her for as long as I can, and I'm hoping that once she is dressed in the clothes that are coming for her, I will be able to bond with her better.

    12. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Hmm I know that I want to start with MSD size and within $300 price range. And last Christmas I happen to stumble on dollshe site when the pre-order of their first fashion line is open. They only post the nude doll sculpt because it's still on prototype, but I think they're already super amazing <3

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I know that I'll got 30% off plus Christmas Full Package with lot of parts and 3 months layaway <3 Not enough reasons to hesitate back then.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope, in fact about a week later I also ordered the female set too <3

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
They're gonna be my first XD

    13. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It took me MONTHS of agonizing and waffling back and forth and figuring out which dolls were LE and no longer sold before I decided on my first doll. I knew I wanted an SD-size doll, but that was pretty much it. I talked about it a lot with my (now ex-)boyfriend and we came across a picture of a oneoff Volks SD13 Mimi and I knew she was the one.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I guess something inside me just finally rested on the decision. I'd "decided" more than once before, but I finally seemed content and I wasn't going to change my mind on her. So sometime between when I first saw that picture of her and then begging my dad to help me order her off eBay, I guess.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Never ever, not once. I'd say that's pretty good for going on 10 years! I don't think I'll ever wish I'd gotten a different doll, she's still one of my most treasured possessions.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Volks' SD13 Mimi (standard) was my first doll, and I definitely still own her.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose her, but she was a birthday and graduation present from my mom and stepdad, dad, and boyfriend. She was pretty pricey. @__@

    14. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I spent 4 years struggling to find "the one" but in the end, I decided to just buy my Doll Leaves Noir on impulse because I had a bit of a character planned for him.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I was subbed to his sales thread on DOA and one day the seller lowered the price quite a lot and I started getting anxious that someone else would buy him, so I decided that that was a sign that I should take the plunge and buy him! i'm v happy that I did :)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Not at all, I'm very happy that Dai was my first doll :) I mean, I kinda wished I had bought the character I originally wanted but his shell was a Luts Delf Lu-Wen and those aren't exactly cheap on the secondhand market, plus its hard to find one in good condition. I still do want to get a Lu-Wen one day, but that will happen eventually.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a Doll Leaves Noir that I named Daisuke (I call him Dai) and I still own him. I've had him since August, but the seller also gave me a Ringdoll Pan head for FREE because she saw that I had posted somewhere else that Pan was basically my grail doll :D So I got 2 of my characters in one fell swoop!

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I did chose it myself, even tho the money to afford him and his stuff was a grad present from my parents.

    15. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Browsed various sites once I decided I wanted a doll. I knew I wanted MSD size and not white skin.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I kept coming back to the Dollmore site. Every day, I'd end up back on that page. I knew her name, I knew who she was. She was IT.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
NEVER. I have never been displeased with my choice.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollmore Suntan Asha and yes, I still own her.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Bought and chose her myself. Lil is MINE.

    16. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
My other relatives who owned bjd's had MSD's, so that size was ideal for me as it was for them. I also wanted a mature girl who wasn't too lithe, so she could wear tight fitting clothing while looking like a bamf.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The moment I went to the company website and saw her on the banner. She was perfectly pictured looking like a gorgeous bamf (destiny! *_*) Then the fact that she was limited was a big push to the purchase button.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Can't think of a time I was unhappy with her. A little frightened and nervous of/ with her at first, yet very satisfied.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My NS Iplehouse Isar was my first bjd in 2013, and I still have her today. :)

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
She was bought with money that was gifted from Chrismas on top of money I had been saving. She was chosen by myself.

    17. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I set myself a cap of $500. I knew I wanted a male SD, but that was all I knew starting out. From there, I just searched until I found the sculpt that was the most distinctive and beautiful in my range.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Essentially the first time I laid eyes on him. His company photos took my breath away, I was instantly taken by his narrow eyes and long, thin nose. I had to have him!

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Not once. Every time I look at him, I'm so glad I chose the sculpt I did. It's just so perfect for him, dramatic but the slightest bit playful.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a Mystic Kids Lawrence, and he is still right here with me :3nodding:

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
He was kind of a birthday present from me to me, considering I ordered him about a month before my birthday. He arrived a week after the day had passed, so not bad!

    18. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It was a struggle. I knew I wanted an MSD girl, but there was such a variety.
*_* So then I made a list of traits that I wanted in a doll:
      1) Mature bodies only - I like the lines of a female figure, plus I was taking a drawing class at the time, and wanted a doll that I could use for practice drawing the human figure.
      2) Mature faces only - It always disturbs me when a mature body has a young girlish face. I also like more angular faces, because I feel that they add a lot of interesting dimensions to a figure.
      3) Poseability - If I was going to use this doll for figure drawing practice, she better be able to do more than just sit there.
      4) Budget: No more than $300 without faceup.
      5) In stock only. I needed it fairly soon if I was going to use it for drawing practice, plus it was a way for me to limit the amount of dolls I could foreseeably get by a lot.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After making my list of rules, I checked the pages of many US retailers, and added/eliminated choices. Eventually it came down to an Asleep Eidolon Blueberry, or a LoongSoul NuanNuan. I chose the Blueberry, because I thought she looked like she could be more mature depending on the faceup and wig chosen for her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
There was a brief moment (immediately after I paid) that I second guessed ordering her. But then I looked at owner pictures of her and knew that I made the right choice. I think the regret was more from spending the money.
      :sweat

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Asleep Eidolon Blueberry. And Yep! She is currently sitting next to me as I am typing.
      :)
