How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I had made a little over $200 on my own (I'm a SAHM, so this is rare, LOL!) and I wanted a Dreaming Doll Little Elva Airi first, but she was just too much.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I looked at tons of pics, and Mystic Kids Lillian stood out because of other owners' pics, not the factory ones, and then YouTube reviews sold me on her.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I just got her today, and she is GORGEOUS and LOVELY! I was worried, but I didn't need to be.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Mystic Kids Lillian came today.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present? I was. Someday I'll add Little ELva Airi to my collection, but I adore the girl I got today.

He was the first doll I fell in love with.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I've only learned about the existence of BJDs after I came across DoD's website. I was still a student then and had hesitated at the price tag so it took me a couple of months to really decide to make the purchase. I knew he was the one when I was still pinning for him after all that time.

Never did! I have more dolls in my collection now, but he's still my number one.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
A Dream of Doll DOT Lahoo. Still have him by my side after 9 years!

 

I don't specifically go out and search for one... I have to come across one by accident and I need to be struck by lightning when I see it.

On Ravelry's ABJD forum, someone posted a link to Soom's LE coyote elf, and I fell in love instantly.

When a week later, I not only still wanted her, but had already named her and was planning out outfits for her to wear. Even cosplay! (I'll make her a carrying harness for cons, and dress her as Cutter from ElfQuest.)

Buying was a little crazy (apparently Soom's credit-card app doesn't play nice with Windows8), but so far I'm happy. Just really excited for her to arrive!

Soom Teenie Gem Coyote Elf, WS. She's being made as we speak!

Oh yes. A gifted dolly can be fun, but I'm pretty happy I picked her out myself. (Which is good, because I'd feel guilty asking for such an expensive doll from anybody as a gift.)

Souldoll pretty much made the decision for me when they decided to discontinue their Sweet line.

Pretty much as soon as I realised it was a bit of a now or never situation. I just knew I loved the sculpt too much to pass up.

It was a little terrifying and I did have an anxiety attack shortly after paying because it was a pretty big financial decision for me. Other than that initial blip though no, I still feel I made the right choice.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Souldoll Sweet Cubarem. He's not actually here yet, hoping he'll be with me before the end of June.

Not a present, no. These dolls are so expensive it never really occurred to me that asking for it as a gift could be an option.

There were two I liked right off the bat when I first learned about BJD's, and one of them was in stock at MOC while I had enough money to buy him...so i did!

when I saw he was in stock, and I had enough money. I sorta just "YOLO'd" it

I was nervous, but once I opened him and saw him for the first time, I knew I made the right choice!

Ringdoll Valo, and yes!!! Wouldn't sell him for anything

I bought him with my money, but I had to have a cousin help me with the process.

I was on a 300$ budget so I was focusing on Dreaming Doll Little Elva since those are gorgeous to me.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I was looking through the page, Airi, was probably the most beautiful one in my opinion, but I realized that Ryuna was beautiful as well and not a lot of people have Ryuna. That's why I chose her.

I love my Ryuna. She has HUGE hands, but those imperfections make her absolutely beautiful

After looking through a couple doll sites.

After much deliberation because it was between two different dolls.

I was very happy with my choice, but it was a lot of money for me then (and now) so it made me cringe when I thought about it financially.

I purchased it myself, saving up for it over a couple of weeks.

At that time, I decided my doll must not over $1000, And he must caught my eyes since first sight.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
At first time I couldn't decide to choose Felix or Eric but Felix is the best for me, after hard time choosing.

He is the best for me that all I can say, I love him so much. First time I got him, I worried about his weight because he's so heavy but now I can carry doll from iplehouse in SID size about 2-3 in one time

My first doll is Felix from iplehosue and yes i still own him.

I got my prize from mom, I choose him and all of his stuff by myself.

I had just learned about BJDs and Googled them. And Luts popped up first ^^ I looked at their dolls anfd continued with the hundred other companies. I came back to them one day and saw the Terra scupt. Instant love!

No other dolls even compared to how perfect he was ^^

how did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
i saw a realpuki who was owned by a friend of a friend and that was it, i was smitten! I waited a while until I had the funds, and as i was new to bjds, but eventually i odrered my Realpuki and there we have it!
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
instantly! as i say it really was love at first sight!

I was and still am extremely happy wth my choice and since then, once i had more dolly funds, i have bought 2 more realpuki so i now have Soso, Titi, and Roro, all in white. Incidentally, the second doll i ordered was the first to arrive which was dreamhigh studios Boo giggles.

I am very happy with my 4 dolls and am looking forward to increasing my collection..... ooooh iplehouse Elin, ooooh pukifee Bonnie and Ante......

Yes, they have all been presents to myself, so i got to chose all of them!

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was looking for a female doll, MSD, with brown skin. I wanted her to have a smiley face. The closest I could find was Chloe from Fairyland for the face but they only offered her in white/pink skin colors so I kept looking. Withdoll was having a big sale at the time that knocked about $70 off the price of their 41cm dolls and their limited edition was in the perfect shade of brown and her face could be made to smile so I went with her.


And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I couldn't find a better option in my price range.

I'm still waiting for her. Rather stressed out about whether I'll like her or not because if not, I'll be out $300~ plus whatever it'll cost to have her faceup done.

Yes. I saved up money I earned from commissions and then blew it all at once on the doll.

I had admired the hobby for a good while and I saw her for sale on Facebook.

I just fell in love!

I wasn't unhappy with her but I was very new to the hobby and I think she was too much doll for me as a newbie!

Iplehouse J.ID Tania and no I don't own her anymore.

My first BJD was 2part small bust Sooah she was not faced up
then I got a Large bust 3-part body June and she was faced up
Next came my Rainman tiny Soah with the face plates; she was a full set.
Then I got a Special -K no face up
Last I got a Dale Zethner Tessa no face up
I love all my dolls and have never grown tired of them and 'though I cannot keep
them out because of dust I sew for them and the such. My Rainys are needing restringing
and repaints.

I was at a convention and I met someone who had him and I fell in love with him right away.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

The second I saw him.

I’ve only had him a few days, but I just love him the more I look at him. He makes me smile. I am completely happy and I don’t regret buying him and I don’t wish that I would have bought a different doll.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

B&G’s Coloara Mlezzlir from their Old World line. I’ve only had him 3 days so I do still own him and I’m not going to sell him, he’s way too special to me.

I was able to choose him, and no he wasn’t a present.

- I love at first sight. So I can't see other doll.

- When I thought all dolls except him, I decided to have him.

- No. The moment I spend time with him are the gift for me.

He was the first doll I fell in love with. He kind of was the reason I joined the hobby.
The choice was very hard though, because there are just so many dolls!

The moment I saw him.

I’m very nervous because I didn’t receive him yet. I hope I won’t be disappointed. But to be honest I think I will love him the moment I see him!

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I visited as many BJD companies' websites as I could, which means all the links on bjdcollectasy's list. Since I have quite specific face features I like and dislike, it wasn't too difficult to choose. After choosing, I waited at least a week while I kept going back to look at the face sculpt of the doll and user pictures, to make sure I didn't just want it out of hype or because of the official promo pics.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When it felt like it would be a choice I won't regret, and I also already planned things to do with it, photo ideas and etc.

Mine hasn't arrived yet (I'm new here heheh). Unless the face sculpt turns out different from all the pictures I saw, I don't think I'll regret it at all.

He's not here yet, but it'll be RingDoll's Lucifer-styleC.

It was a present from me to myself lol.

 

My good friend gave me a Lati Yellow Suji to get me properly addicted because she loves me, and then I stalked a FS/FA Flickr group until I saw a Lati Green for $100 with a sculpt I liked and went for it! She's got some epic seaming and is a bit yellow but I love her and am slowly making her more and more mine.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was really enamored with all of the photos and videos I'd seen of Pukifee Lunas. I wanted to start with a very small doll because I had a lot of props and furniture I knew I could re-purpose from my barbies. I was really in love with her cute little face, and the company faceup.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I came across a secondhand Luna listed on ebay when I happened to have some extra money, I figured the time was finally right. I could get the doll I wanted, and at a substantial discount.

Nope! I was very lucky and bonded to her instantly. She was a great choice to introduce me to the hobby and I'm still just as in love with her almost 3 years later.

Whoops, guess I've already mentioned it a bunch XD She's a pukifee Luna in NS resin, and I still own her.
