Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
My budget was limited, my best friend introduced me to the bobobie line, I knew I wanted an SD and their price range fit the bill.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I knew I wanted a boy because I wanted to make armor for him, I found Apollo and fell in love with his innocent, almost sad face.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? I ordered a LT. Tan boy, his skin tone was a tad more on the Ash/cool side then I had expected and at first I wasn't sure I had gotten the right doll, so bonding was put off a bit. I now know I can "warm up" his skin color with some blushing or a dye job. In the future I know to order a normal tone.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Bobobie Apollo was my first, I still own him and will always own him. I am also adopting a Bobobie Rachel so he has a friend.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose him start to finish, it was not a gift.

Well, I didn't know much about them at the time, I was browsing the JunkySpot and I just went with what was in my price range.
I sort of wish I had looked around more, because after my first doll meetup I found that he wasn't what I really wanted. :c

A Dollzone HID, and I do but I am considering parting with him. But it's a tough choice.

It was bought by my boyfriend at the time.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I wanted my doll to be based on a D&D character that I am playing, the character has dark grey skin and pointed ears, so already my choice was quite limited, I also didn't want to use too much money on a hobby I were unsure I would like
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I found that the shape of her head and her little smile fit my character concept really well

I am still waiting to get her, but I think she will fit well, because I have seen a few other pictures with the particular doll

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
- I limited myself to choosing only MSD-sized dolls because I decided I would only shell out $350 max on my first doll purchase. Well, actually, I think MSD is the perfect size for me so I didn't really have trouble with my self-imposed limit.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
- I fell completely in love with Asen at first sight. I think it's really important that you fall in love with the doll in all angles, in all different kinds of light, different face-ups. Add to that the fact that Souldoll had an ongoing summer promo, which gave me incentive to speed up the saving process.

- I'm still waiting for her to get home but right now, I'm still 100% confident I'll fall in love with her all over again when I see her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
I'm waiting for my Souldoll Soul-Kid Asen right now. I plan to keep her with me for as long as I possibly can.

 

Morphoa was my first doll, and yes I still have her
I liked the way she looked in her pic's. She is all that and more
I was not happy about the white skin at the time I did not know that I could get her in another color

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I'm not sure how special my case is, but my first doll was very simply the doll that got me into BJDs at all. That is, I had seen BJDs on deviantART and was intrigued by them, but I wasn't really looking to buy one. I did a Google search to find out what they were and stumbled across Dollzone's website, where I found my boy. All the research I did afterwards was for him: I knew I wanted him, but I needed to know how to take care of him.

So, I never set out thinking I'd like to own an ABJD. I set out thinking I wanted to own that particular doll, and got into the hobby as a result .

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
As soon as I saw his cute little face, I knew he would have to be mine. Like, immediately! So I went looking for a European dealer and ordered him five days after coming across the term 'ABJD' O_o.

NO. He's perfect. Even his long neck, his ugly knee joints and the bubble in his face-up are perfect. I still can't believe, when I look back at how little I knew about BJDs when I ordered him, how excellent a choice I made .

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollzone Scarecrow Hal. I most certainly still have him and most definitely still adore him.

Extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Um, no, certainly not a present - I was 31 years old when I got my first, and none of my friends or family would ever *think* of buying a doll for a 31-year-old woman! Only my immediate family and closest friends know I have dolls now, and they mostly shake their heads at me :p. I bought my first doll as a treat for myself and made all my own choices.

 

I am still having problems in which to choose, i want a doll i can dress and pose for taking pics to learn about lighting etc, but being in the UK is really hard to find and get a good looking doll, i think i mended a mentor, or maybe a thread should be made for people to help people get their first doll,

I always wanted a doll. And a friend of mine was showing me hers by linking me to the company website because it hadn't come yet. There, I totally fell in full deep love for the doll

I have been looking around a lot for my first doll, and I finally decided on a MNF Chloe. I chose her because I liked her face sculpt and her joints, and also because she was one of the brands that Denver Doll Emporium carries, and I live pretty close to them.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I finally decided that I thought Fairyland seemed to have the best jointing. So basically after a LOT of research.

I'm still saving up for her, so I can't say. I am not really nervous, since I have put so much effort into my choice.

This will be my first doll. I am not a fan of selling things so I hope to own it for a long time.

Definitely not a present! I am going to be saving up for her all by myself.

I first started doing TONS or research. Took me...seven years or longer to finally buy. I decided because at one point I finally saw Iplehouse's Tania. I always wanted one after that.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I found a certain someone selling their Noctracana Trapeze Tania here. :] She was also a better financial move.

I don't know yet. xD She's in the mail. I don't think I'll be unhappy. This version of her works better with what I have in mind anyway. :]

I picked out Tania Trapeze from Iplehouse. Getting her from the lovely, damhsa.

Haha, a gift to myself. XD Talked it over with the fiance before I bought her and he said I deserved to spoil myself. (Since I'm usually the tightwad and he's not. XD )

Honestly, I wanted a doll that nobody else had.

I wanted my grail. For me it was a no brainer that I should save to get the doll I liked the most.

I only had 350$ maximum to spend. So I had a limit.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Was at a local convention with friends, and went to the quite large doll portion of the con. I fell in love with the sculpt instantly, and basically pulled a "shut up and take my money" thing. She was in my hands about 2 minutes later.

I am unhappy that I am not that great at faceups. ; 3 ; Her sculpt is too cute for my stupid handiwork to ruin.

She is an IslandDoll Amy. o v o She'll never be sold.

I sold all of my anime stuff since I sorta grew out of it a couple of years ago, and made enough to buy my doll. She came with outfit, wig, eyes, and faceup. I had enough left over to buy her a crown. = v = I regret nothing~

i had decided that my first doll would be the one to embody my character giselle, regardless of the cost, so i started searching for the one

i am not unhappy with her, i actually love her to pieces, but at the time if i had discovered linglang from oasis dolls i would have gone for that one instead. she fits the bill perfectly, i plan to buy her in the near future

It is a michelle-A from Loong Soul, i will never get rid of her! i don't buy stuff unless i am completely satisfied

I decided it had to be on​e I absolutely loved at first glance. I was also pretty darn certain I was going to get a girl but it ended up being a Rosenlied boy, I still love him as much to this day

Not in the slightest. I researched and researched and researched for HOURS until I was 100% certain I was going to get him.

Rosenlied's Benjamin and yes, he's still and will probably always be my favourite as he was my first doll

I chose and payed for him myself, no-one else had a say in it~

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't have a lot of money to start with, but I knew I wanted an SD. So during in my 'research phase', (which lasted about four months) while browsing DoA and as many company websites as I could, I started looking particularly at RS/BBB. I really liked the idea of having a 70cm doll; the bigger the better!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I chose Feng because of his gentle expression. I was nervous about getting a BJD at all because a few years earlier, a rag doll had scared me terribly.
I was worried my BJD would creep me out! So I knew I had to choose the gentle giant.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
As I was finding his character and learning to get over the stigma surrounding the RS and BBB companies, there were a few times I wondered if I had made a mistake. If I did it over again, would I end up ordering a different doll? Maybe, because my tastes have changed in the past year. Do I regret buying him? Not for a second. He has transcended the resin and become his own little creature. I couldn't imagine life without him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Still a proud owner of a Resinsoul Feng.

I decided to by a Dollzone Edward because of his beautiful sculpt. I had been looking for a beautiful and tall SD boy a long time and my friend kind of helped to convince me to buy a BJD. At first I was more interested in a Souldoll zentih, but I later decided on a Dollzone doll ^^

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It took me about a year too decide on my very first doll. I knew he was my doll when I finally had paid for him. And I already had a character and personality for him.

No, I'm happy with my choice of first BJD.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a Dollzone Edward and yes, I'm still his owner. And probably will be for a very long time

I was the one to choose, My family don't approve of this kind of hobby. So all my decisions were made by myself and with the help and guidance of my friends in the hobby.

I saw some pics of a PKF Luna and knew I just had to get this girl. She got me into BJDs and when I was finally willing to buy my very first one 2 years after I had first seen her I bought her.
