Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I spent a lot of time on different company sites looking at different dolls and googling for owner pictures (since I wasn't on DoA yet). I knew I wanted either an MSD or YoSD sized doll; I come from a miniatures hobby background and I'm still a little overwhelmed by the big dolls. I also knew I wanted a female doll with a happy expression.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I fell in love with her and just kept coming back to her picture over and over again. She had such a gentle yet playful expression that just felt right.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I completely adore her and she is my favourite of my 3 dolls. After ordering her I did end up ordering my second choice right away, an IH JID Tania.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Kid Delf Aru and yes, I still have her.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was looking for an Iplehouse, because I fell in love with this company. So it had to be one of them, but my first choice was a SID Eric and finaly I've bought a nYID Bianca.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I know it when I see it for the first time, my mind was blinded by her beauty XD

No I'm really happy to have to choose her because she was limited.

It was an Iplehouse nYID Bianca and I still own her ^^

Yes I choose her, my girlfriend helped me to buy her =)

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I actually bought the cheapest doll I could find as my absolute first to "test the waters" and confirm that I liked the doll type as I was also collecting other doll types at the time. After six months I decided that I would get the MSD F20 from Volks, because part of the appeal of BJDs for me is that I could buy them in-person. For years I had only been able to buy over the internet and doing it in-person was like entering a whole new world, especially when the Volks staff encouraged me to come back with my dolls and enjoy them at Tenshi no Sato. For me, Tenshi no Sato is better than Disneyland!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

The first moment I saw the MSD F20 I knew that doll would be my first. I also knew upon seeing the F45 that doll would be my first SD girl. And, I knew that upon seeing Volks Tony that he would be my first SD13 boy. I have seen enough dolls to "know" a love from a like.

Never. I bought her in January 2008 and still have her with no intention of ever letting her go. I actually bought her a sister/BFF the following year.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Volks MSD F20.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
There wasn't much to choose from on the international market back in 2003 - my choices were very limited. I picked a Custom House doll because this company was one of the first to open up its e-store to international customers. They did not have many sculpts to pick from, so it wasn't a very difficult decision.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I saw enough owner pictures of her.

I was perfectly happy with my choice and I still am!

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Custom House Choa. This beautiful girl is still part of my collection - front and center!

She was a present, but I picked her out entirely on my own.

 

I just new it was the doll for me when it was the only doll I would keep looking at.

I had a about £300 to spend on anyone I wanted and it just happened to be DollnDoll King Yuha because I found him trough an UK dealer.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I wanted a BJD that I could love. And somehow it felt he was special.

No, he is my first and most loved.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
DollnDoll King Yuha And yes, he is not leaving my side.

I saved up some money and my stefather brought him fir me during the Christmas event. Then I just paid off the rest bit by bit.

I started talking to people at ACen who had dolls with them and decided I would go through luts, from there I started looking through the CP Delfs they had and decided to go for a male over female, then went through all the males and fell for EL

I kept going back and looking at him over other sculpts

I didn't ever really get unhappy with him, to this day he's one of my favorite sculpts

NS CP Delf El, I don't own that one specifically (Had to sell him for financial reasons) But I recently acquired another CP el off the market place to replace the one I had sold since it kept bothering me that I didn't have him anymore.

I totally chose it and it was a present to myself lol

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
A lot of things factored into my decision. I was just a middle school student then, and I had a budget of roughly $400 after saving up for 2 years or so. At the time I wasn't on DoA, so I searched around the few companies I actually knew. The first doll I liked was Soony from LUTS, so I checked out the rest of their sculpts.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I just thought that she was the most beautiful doll I'd seen. I looked at Iplehouse shortly after and considered some of their newly released JIDs, but nothing topped Shushu.

When I got her, I didn't really like the profile she had, or how her body posed, and at the time, not a lot of people made shoes and clothes for slim mini's. Trying to find things that would fit her slim waist and large bust became really troublesome, and I wish I had foreseen these kinds of problems before I ordered her :/ I didn't want to sell her right away after receiving her though, so I kept her around for a good 4 years even though we didn't really bond that well.

MNF Shushu (B-line). I sold her in 2012.

Yup! It was kind of a present to myself, a middle school graduation present of sorts.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?


Back at the time I was fourteen years old, not on DOA at all yet and I had been admiring Obitsu's for years...They were the first doll of the BJD kind I saw and I was in utter love. I had just seen Angelic Layer and Chobits so to have a doll I could make totally my own? I was in love.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I saw Junkyspot and looked around saw the right body and head for me...Eyes too and I just..Knew. I liked the way it looked, I saw plenty of owner pictures, the slight natural 'beam' sort of look the head had got me.

No..She's my baby, I never would want to get rid of my first doll. She's my little girl and always will be. She's got her special place in my heart and I never wished I had ordered another. She was and still is my pride and joy and still my spoiled little girl.

An off topic Obitsu 27cm, yes I still own her and she still rules the roost. She's my little girl whom I love to bits.

She was a gift but my mom had me choose her parts because she couldn't for the life of her remember which head and such I wanted. I got her early and spent my Christmas break so to speak sewing and photographing my little gal.


As for resin..I don't got one yet but I realize I want a LUTS...I always have loved their dolls so why not go back to that first love?

I browsed eBay, Denver Doll Emporium and other sites for months. Not knowing how well I would like the hobby, I decided on a nice second hand doll.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I found my Nabiya doll on eBay and I got the winning bid. I was quite excited to see her.

I was very happy with my doll and I knew immediately that I had a new long term hobby.

My Nabiya is awesome and will always be by first bjd!

To be perfectly honest I was just surfin the interwebs, minding my own business when I found him and I instantly fell in love with him.

When I saw that he was still available.

I had a bout of buyers remorse at first. I'm still waiting for him but not really. Though I found two other dolls that I really want too!

I was looking for something under $300, and found her. She was in my "finalists" list, along with a few others, and in the end, she just seemed best for me.

Today, I realised I wasn't getting anything better for me!

I'm still waiting for her, but I've seen other people's pictures and I think I'll be VERY happy with her!

I only had $400 including shipping. I want my first to be tan girl and Msd size. So with those requirements I started my search.

I went through a huge list of "This will be my first doll I will save up for it" and then would change that again and again... then my boyfriend promised to get me a doll so I was waiting on him to buy me one and I had already chosen her, but as I was browsing I saw a cute little limited boy and I thought perhaps about getting him if we order the other doll in time and of course we reached the deadline to buy him and my boyfriend still had not bought her so I went ahead and impulse bought him. No regrets

I was lurking on Deviantart and saw a "selling resin everything must go" picture with lots of doll parts. I fell in love with one of the head sculpts, ordered it, and ordered a body for it.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I had been looking at dolls for a while, not seeing anything that could fit one of my already existing roleplay characters, and this one fit a character perfectly.

Not at all. With her new faceup and clothes, she's the perfect image of the character I bought her to be.

I chose a Dreamingdoll Mae in normal skin.

Well, I had a couple of dolls picked that I knew I wanted, and I debated back and fourth for a really long time.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I'm actually not sure when... I had narrowed it down to an SD and an MSD doll, and chose the MSD doll because of size and price.

Nope, I was always very happy with my choice! I did end up ordering the other one later on, though.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
A Dream of Doll DoC U, and yes, I still have him ♥ There was awhile that I wasn't sure if I was keeping him, but I'm glad I did. He's really special to me me, and I don't think I could ever sell him.

I just love her face...so I decided to take her ^^

her face is so special I couldn't find any other face looks like it, pretty and unique.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I spent quite a bit of time researching different companies, and I became enamored with the realistic appearance of the Iplehouse dolls. I loved the Elemental Guardians Erzulie and the JID Tania, and probably would have purchased Tania had I not run across pictures of a beautiful Real Skin Erzulie. The moment I saw her I fell head over heels in love.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
As mentioned above, as soon as I found a collector's pictures of her RS Erzulie.

Though I am still waiting for her to arrive, I certainly haven't regretted the purchase yet. Hopefully that won't change when she gets here, although I don't imagine that it will.

Iplehouse Real Skin Erzulie girl, purchased through the custom doll system. Technically yes, though she is not in my possession just yet.

She wasn't technically a present, although I did purchase her with money I received for Christmas. So I guess she was indirectly a present

You know, wasn't really sure which one to get. When I was first introduced to BJD's earlier last year, I knew I had to get one. I also knew I didn't want to buy something super expensive because I was really tight on money. After browsing around, I came across the Bobobie dolls and I knew I wanted one from there. Then I just kind of saw a picture and was sold.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Right away. Love at first sight~!

Not at all! I could have never asked for a better darling then my Illiana.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was the BBB Mei, and her name is Illiana. I still do~! She's my only doll right now, but that just means she gets the most love~~
