Does anyone know how good the posing ability of the Whale Island 1/4 Boy Body (Killer Whale) is? I haven't been able to get any references or any unboxing videos to see if I like it for some heads that I'm tempted to buy

@NuttyRojita I have one too and can confirm it’s great! I haven’t tested it too much, but he can hug his knees and looks sturdy enough imo. Plus, he’s just gorgeous.

 

Thank you so much @Yumeiro These photos are perfect because I was interested in the thin muscle version I like it because it looks imposing yet very youthful; it's ideal for the heads I want to buy. I like those notches in the thigh joints (in fact, I was thinking of ruling out the M-Doll School B01 Body as an option because its joints seemed a bit slippery to me).
Yeesss I loved the toes!! I wasn't sure if they were separated in the promotional photos, I thought it was my impression, but this confirmed it for me. I thought I could make him wear Geta too Thank you!!

I just saw Coral Reef's newest released doll, Iris, in 1/4 and 1/3 version and I am completely bewitched by her, that beautiful wig and the witchy hat.
Being new to Coral Reef dolls, I have a question. On their dealer websites you can only order the doll, not the outfit. Doesn't Coral Reef usually release full set dolls with wig and outfit? Or is it random?
Would love to buy that full attire with wig and everything.

 

@Amadiel Not always. You usually have to ask Coralreef (on instagram - don't know if they're active there anymore) if they could get you the outfit or wig, for their basic doll releases. So depending on the dealer, you'd have to ask if they could ask Coralreef if they could get your the items or point you towards the maker.

 

@Yumeiro Thank you for your reply! I already asked Legend Doll and they said the items are not available. I think I will ask CoralReef themselves next.
I already found a similar wig on Legend Doll, so that part shouldn't be too difficult. Now looking for the hat specifically. Wish me luck!

 

@Amadiel And if you cannot get a hold of Coralreef, I'd bet Christina/Clover Singing could help contacting them and ask who the maker is. Good luck!

 

I wrote Coral Reef directly via email and they replied promptly the next day. Sadly the hat (and outfit) is from a brand that no longer makes items.
Oh well, going to order beautiful Iris on her own then and maybe try to recreate her look.

 

There's no Coral Reef thread in the Large Dolls section, so I thought I'd mention it here: Coral Reef seem to have discontinued all their 60-62cm bodies (Jiu Er Mao, Pure Girl and Witch). They're no longer listed on Alice's Collections or Taobao.
(The irony being I was about to buy a 60cm Jiu Er Mao for a hybrid, but then my number one choice became available)

I hope the smaller bodies don't also get discontinued, because I'm looking at getting a Killer Whale body for a hybrid next year.

 

@castironteapot Coralreef takes limited-time preorders for their bodies, then closes preorder to manufacture and ship them in a timely manner. If the body is popular, they will re-run it in a future, also limited-time preorder. The 1/4 Killer Whale male body has had multiple re-runs already and I don't see it going away anytime soon; I have a feeling the 1/3 female bodies (Witch, Pure Girl, etc) have been popular enough that they will re-open a future preorder.

This limited-time, non-limited quantity, re-run method is a common way for smaller dollmakers to organize their BJD production. I'm not sure how dealers have negotiated body orders with CR, but I won't be surprised if Alice's is synchronizing their product listings with CR's own preorder cycle.

In the meantime, CR's Weibo account will announce when preorders are open and for which bodies. They also usually have sales during the major Chinese holidays, eg. Chinese new year, Double 11, and EOFY "618" sales in June.

I thank you too @aihre for the information. Like @castironteapot I panicked when I was browsing on Alice's and saw a lot of the Coral Reef stuff missing especially as I have a 1/4 Iris on order! It still says processing.

I hope they do bring out the bodies again as I was hoping to order the 1/4 'witch' body for a floating 'Lotus' head I have if Iris's body fits it ok.

 

Every time I've purchased a Coral Reef doll, I've done so directly by messaging them on Instagram or emailing them. They sold me Unicorn Beetle outside of her official selling time and I haven't had any issues so far. Fingers crossed that the next order goes well too! They will most likely be available again, or they might be willing to sell them now if you ask them directly.
