CP Delf Discussion Part 13

Same! That's why it's a little bit of a bummer that they didn't do a size category; maybe they will come back with it eventually.

That's my confliction! I honestly expected to find one that was pretty busted up, since that's what I usually buy to fix up. But this one is near perfect. I'll have to see it in person to make sure that it's faceup is intact; but I don't know if I should keep it default or not if it is. Styling them and personalizing them is something that I enjoy doing, but you're right about there not being many out there!

Regarding default faceups - I think I'm in the minority... I actually don't really like the default faceups haha. I have an El with a pretty pristine default faceup and I fully intend to wipe it and send it out for a new faceup when I have the extra funds. lol I'm sorry to everyone that loves the defaults!

And regarding dolls in the sun - Inanna (Soony) has spent A LOT of time in the sun and is VERY yellowed. More yellowed than any of my other dolls. I don't regret all her time in the sun though. For the first year I had her she literally went everywhere with me. Now most of my dolls stay indoors. I do think I would still bring them out for photos from time to time if there wasn't a pandemic.

 

I don't think any of my Delf have their default faceups. The closest one would probably be Tielo, but it was determined that his was made to look similar to a default one. *shug* I think that made me partial to default faceups. Still wish I could have gotten The One That Got Away.

I too used to take a doll with me everywhere back in the day. My biggest choice used to be, "who is going with me this time?"

Now I only take a Delf with me to Joann Fabrics when I'm planning to make something for them. Times have become somewhat more dangerous, and I now live in a more reserved state than before. Don't get me wrong, I love living in New England, but I get stared at enough already whenever I dress Goth. I might get arrested if I dress Goth and carry a doll!

Yeah, COVID has put quite the damper on me going places to take pics. I will probably go back to taking them out for pics on sunny days, once we get a much better handle on this pandemic. I don't want some unmasked person coughing near my doll while I try to do a photoshoot at the park!

If the default faceups make people happy I love that! I just have never been content with them for my characters. I had bought Inanna with a faceup as my first doll and within a year or so had sent her out to be repainted because it just wasn't suiting her as much as I had hoped. That I think is the biggest reason I'm not into the default faceups. I like my dolls to suit the characters I have created for them. It's a lot easier for me personally to accomplish that going custom.

The New England area has its good and bad aspects for sure! I live in upstate New York (near the Adirondacks) and where I used to live seemed pretty accepting, and then I moved about 10 miles north and now I am basically surrounded by rednecks. I wear a mask even just in my front yard to take the dog out and have had people yell at me to take my mask off as they pass by and tell me that my mask is upsetting them. It's my yard, my health, and my right to wear a mask. Considering I got Covid in my front yard in January (I know it was in my front yard because I've only gone further twice since March 2020, once to a doctor and once for the vaccine) even though I am vaccinated now I'm still not risking it. Anyway, long story to say New England isn't ALL bad but I agree that there are plenty of areas with unkind and unaccepting people and it's a real bummer. And sometimes those areas are only 10 miles apart.

 

I knew COVID was airborn, but WOW, did someone cough in your front yard while you were outside? I've not had much trouble with mask wearing, (nor rednecks), but how rude! To say that "your mask wearing is upsetting them!" It is still a free country, (here in the US) and if you want to wear one, you have that right. I love where I'm living now, especially since there is a nice mix of different peoples and ethnicities because of the nearby universities.

I have to admit, back in the early days of the pandemic, when no one knew how it was spread, I made a mask for Adrastos, AKA Dr. Weathers (Tanning Shiwoo.)

So we stay on topic and not get in trouble, this pic!

I'm thinking of either getting more or making more for others in My Crew. I like the ones that go around your ears better than the one I made Dr. Weathers that ties behind his head.

I'm not typically one to go with default faceups either; but I also hate to wipe something that's in pristine condition. Sadly, I'm sure that I will though.

Oh no! That's horrible about you getting COVID outside of your house. I'm in Texas and it seems to just be "normal" for everyone to not wear a mask. Like you're CRAZY if you're wearing one. But I also work hospice and see many people die DAILY because of it. Including one of our Physicians who was taking care of those patients.

To stay on topic too, @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Dr. Weathers is adorable! I love all of the tanning dolls. My luck has never been good enough to find one!

 

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 I love the mask! I like the style you did actually. I would worry a behind the ear one could end up rubbing more against the face and possibly disturbing the sealant on the faceup.

 

Again, I seem to be the odd-ball. A lot of my Delfs have the default face-ups... and I like them.

Then again, while I do play the "character game" to some extent, I'm a lot more casual about that than most of you guys. With the exception of a few specific RPG and MMO avatars, most of my gang are personalities-built-around-the-doll rather than pre-existing mind-children-shelled-in-resin. I suspect that makes a difference when it comes to looks matching ideas.

 

My Yder has his default faceup and although it's one of their simpler ones, I still love it. It matches his character and personality. Actually though I originally asked if they could give him the BW Yder faceup (which had dark brown colors around the eyes)^^;; but they had just done out with 'custom' requests, so I got the NS default. But it still brought out the subtle and gentle features his sculpt has I think.

 

I'm one of those who love default faceups. Feather has hers and it suits her so well! I hope I can do just as pretty on my Snow. I'll be posting more photos of my big prop, which is the OG bunk bed! On Instagram!

I posted him to IG already, but I recently received a Moon The Redemption, and after a bit of restoration (face up and some DEEP wig conditioning lol) he's lookin' pretty handsome.



Edit: He was full set, minus missing shoes. He's held up really well! The only thing really damaged were his silicone eyes (I replaced them with similar colored glass ones here), which had warped from being in his head so long. They *may* be fixable with some heat treatments.

 

Oh man, @Angelesk, stay safe! COVID is no joke! My brother and his family don't leave the house without masking up. That makes me feel slightly better about them living in Texas.

I have to admit, I'm kind of looking for a Delf sculpt (that I don't have) with a default faceup. I think they're so classic, yannow? I lucked out finding Adrastos (AKA Dr. Weathers), I had wanted one for so long, and then just when I had the money, he popped up for sale. Keep looking, they very occasionally pop up.

Thanks for the heads-up, @malvinas! I didn't consider that the faceup could get rubbed off! Lucky for me, Adrastos rarely leaves the house, so he basically sits on top of the wardrobe all the time. I may make a few more of these kind of facemasks, especially since the weather's getting frosty and I don't want to go outside as much.

@SacredMonsoon, I'm sure that Snow will turn out wonderful. *waves to Feather* Its nice to see you both again! Oh man, Feather looks so comfy in her bed.

@juumou, I think I'm going to wait until after Thanksgiving to play. I'm still enjoying the idea of Halloween.

Shuichi recently got a new DollHeart concert outfit to wear. He's also had these boots for a long time but never wore them. I think they look really great with this outfit. If only DollHeart still made outfits and boots like this.

I recently got a friend to redo my El's faceup (she was the one who did his original one when I bought him off her). I really love him so much, she did an amazing job on him! I'm thinking of sending her my Vampire Elf Chiwoo to do as well!
