1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Cult BJD items

Feb 5, 2010

    1. Gumdrop eyes have a big following. Now that they don't take orders I assume they are more in demand. I never see them on the Marketplace :)

    2. I agree that some of the "cult" items seem to phase out over time... I remember when Bermanns were the one "it" doll to have, but the fervor does seem to have died down some. Same with Woosoos.

I do think there are still a few rare "cult" dolls out there with limited followings, like Unoss. And certain hard-to-get items like Dollflower eyes or Droprops. But the "must-have" dolls go in and out of fashion. I think a few years from now, we'll all be reminiscing about when hooves were the big "must-have" item.

    3. Besides some of the things people have already mentioned, I would say:

--faceups by the super-big names, such as Violet Poem, Sairin, and Avvelenato (especially Avvelenato, now that her website is gone and she seems to have sold off all her BJD things).
--and yes, Antique Rose eyes--I still haven't seen a pair in person, but I'm hoping. ;)

I guess for me there's a difference between a "cult" item and one that's just about everybody's "must-have" . . . upthread, somebody mentioned Hound and El, neither of which was in short supply when they were what everyone HAD to have. El is still readily available, if it comes to that. For me, those aren't "cult" things: they're too widely known. Cult movies fly under the mainstream radar, and have only a small, but doggedly loyal, following. It seems to me that cult BJD items are comparably rare, "insider knowledge" kinds of things.

    4. I agree about the Gumdrop eyes - anytime a pair goes in the marketplace, it's snapped up so quickly! Combination of high quality gorgeous eyes and a seller no longer in business is deadly.

    5. I may be completely wrong on this, but every time I see a Esthy Peroth head go up for sale... people go crazy! I don't think I've seen one up for more than a day, honestly.
