Custom House Little Junior and Junior discussion part 1

Jan 29, 2007

    1. Hey everyone, I finally named my Icarus girl! I also did her her face up again and it came out a little better than my first ever try!
      Please welcome, Annabelle!

    2. Aww, she's cute. The wig is gorgeous on her.

    3. Wewh....one down...one to go. Finally finished sanding my LJ boy. It took me all day and you can still see the seams if you really look but at least now I'm not endangering my fingers every time I touch him. The edges on those resin seams can be sharp! @_@

Got a question for anyone owning a Meoroo. When I got my two yesterday, the Meoroo was the event head... when I unwraped him I found out that his head isn't magnetic and looks like it's susposed to be attached to the S hook in his body. O_o But my Darea mold is magnetic. Is anyone elses Meoroo like this? I'm curious.....

    4. I don't have a Meoroo, so I can't be sure, but for some reason it seems that not all of them have magnets, yet. My Mars (Oct. 2009 sale, arrived in Dec?) doesn't either and it annoys the heck out of me. I plan to attach some magnets with apoxy inside the headcaps.

    5. My Jupiter has the rubber band in his head too. Must be the boy heads. Good idea about adding the magnet. I had to do that with one of my petites as the magnets weren't holding,

    6. Thanks itseva! I don't know if Annabelle is keeping the wig as her permanent wig, but it's growing on me ^__^

She also has rubber bands inside her head (she is supposed to be a boy head too). I want to add magnets. but I'm worried that the thickness of the magnets will cause the head cap to show a gap. Maybe if I can find magnets that are really flat so that can sit nearly flush. Or I can sand but I was trying to avoid that.

    7. This is what I did that is working really well. I had some magnets that were meant for jewelry closing so they are little barrels about 1/4 inch high and around. I used E6000 glue because I wanted to make sure I could get it back out if it didn't work. I glued one of the magnets out of the way at the back of the head flush with the opening. Then, for the very reason you mentioned (the possibility of a gap), I let the second magnet attach to the first magnet but not to the top part of the head. I put the top of the head on which pushes the second magnet in but not off the first one and it holds the head together.

    8. juniper222, could you take a picture of that? I have trouble picturing it. I'd love to know how you did it.

A while back I was taking pictures of Micah and wanted it to look like he was about to dive into a pool so I bent him foreward and held on to his legs so he wouldn't lose balance. His knees gave out and he lurched forward. Of course I had a tight grip on him and he didn't fall in - but his headcap came lose and together with his wig in plopped right into the pond. I managed to get it out before it sank but had to postpone the pictures as the wig needed to dry first. ;)

So, yes, magnets would be a good idea!

    9. Itseva, since I made that post yesterday I've been thinking that just doesn't sound as if it should work. And I didn't plan it, was actually trying to measure for the second magnet and realized I didn't need to glue it in. However, that doll was a Petite Yuriel with an existing front and back magnet and the back one wasn't holding. So I'm going to go out to my studio this afternoon and try the same thing in Jupiter's head and try to figure out why it worked the first time and if it will work again. The glue takes a while to dry so if I don't post tomorrow (Friday), I'll try to on Saturday and I'll take pictures too.

    10. I've got a Meoroo and he doesn't have the magnets either. I figured it was because he was an older sculpt. I just used some 2mm elastic I had here for the smaller dolls, formed a tiny look and hooked it through his headcap and attached the headcap on with the s-hook. I was out of tiny elastic bands. I don't tend to change the eyes very often once I find ones I like so I don't need magnets on my headcaps. That link is quite handy though. I may try adding some magnets if I can find the right type.

    11. Finished sanding my LJ girl yesterday.....what a job @_@ Not that the seams are entirely gone but they're good enough for my liking. I probably would have had to spend hours more to make them perfect.

The wig I have for the girl just isn't cutting it, so it looks like I will have to get her a new one as well as my boy. *sigh*

Also, realized today that I had found some little keychain boots that were smaller then the sneakers a while back thinking they might fit the two of them....they fit the girl but the boy seems to have wider feet then him. So he's still shoeless also.

*laugh* I waited forever for them and it seems like i have nothing for them.....

    12. Itseva, re: magnets. Nothing I tried today seemed to hold the head on so I'm going to try the link in Tiarah's post. I wonder if it only takes one magnet on the side.

Sirius53Black, That's how I'm going to be with my Juniors that are on their way. I'm just now getting around to dealing with all that stuff with my LJs I've had for 4 or 5 months.

    13. Well customhouse sent me a wig for one each of my dolls so I only need a wig for the boys. I bought a few smaller sized cheaper wigs and I'm planning to trim them into a boyish cut. Outfits etc can wait for a little while. As long as I finish the face-ups, I don't care. I spent most of the day finalising purchasing my new washing machine and it will be delivered tomorrow so I don't know how much time I'll get to do it this weekend. I'm halfway done with their face-ups so I'll get the rest done eventually.

    14. Reposting this from the waiting room, since apparently not all of us hang out there. ;)

I need some wig advice. Both my brother and my boyfriend have said numerous times that Micah (LJ Mars) looks like a girl. Now my best friend also called him "your cute little girl". Well, I guess, he kinda does look like a girl.

I'm not going to change his face-up anytime soon as I don't have the money to pay another artist and I'm not good enough to wipe a perfectly nice face-up and do one myself. However, I think that a more "manly" wig might help.
Where do you guys get wigs for your boys? In the stores I normally look I haven't seen cute any short boy wigs that aren't all flat and boring. Any great ideas?

Re the magnet idea: Hm, interesting. I plan on doing some modifiation with another doll next month. Maybe I'll get this new air drying clay and will figure something out with Micah's headback as well.

    15. Hmm...other than a faceup and wig change, there's isn't much to change to make him look more manly. Look for a shorter wig on the market place threads maybe? Also when you do decide to get a face up change, ask the artist for a more masculine look (like eyebrows and blushing his cheeks to make them seem more hollowed out). These are just suggestions of course! I had a very girly looking Iplehouse JID boy and that's what I asked the face up artist to do and looking at his preview pics, he looks a LOT more manly and older (because I asked that he be painted that way). Once he gets home, I can upload pictures onto my album so you can see to comparison. ^__^

Speaking of aesthetics, I'm having a really really hard time deciding on faceups for my two LJs (my Mars should be here next week! Yay!). I'm having an even harder time finding clothes for them. The Narsha clothes aren't really their style since they are supposed to be in their mid teens. I'm just getting more and more frustrated trying to find clothes for them. I tried to commission, but not too many people have these little guys. Any suggestions of what other clothes fit? Like would minifee of dollmore MSD clothes fit?

Also, would 6-7 wigs fit or would 7-8 wigs be better on boy heads?

    16. I have dollmore msd clothing and they`d be way to big for the LJ`s. I have a Minifee also and any of his clothing is big on them. Though maybe something that is tight fitting on a minifee might work? My LJ boy comes up to my MNF`s shoulder though...there`s actually quite a bit of difference in the size of them.

The narsha clothing fits (I have the white hoodie and the striped red shirt) but if they`re not your style then I haven`t really seen much more in clothes for that size range.....I think Minouworld might fit, but I haven`t ordered anything from them before so I don`t know...I just know that they have the same size dolls. Iplehouse is susposed to eventually come out with a 35cm doll....they usuallly have nice clothing from what I see for their other sizes so we can hope that the clothing in that size would be nice too.

As for wigs a 7-8 would be huge on them (I know I tried a leekeworld 7-8 on the boy and it was huge! ) but my girl fits into a 6-6.5 from Leekeworld so I`m getting someone to commision a fur wig in a 6-7 for him.

As for making a boy look less girly, well I found that when I had my DZ boy in a fiber wig people tended to think of him as a girl...even if it was short *sigh* I changed it out for a fur wig though and haven`t had that problem as much...he definally looks male with the fur wig!

    17. Wow, thank you so much! Looks like I'll look into a fur wig for my Mars, I've got a lot to think about! Lol!

    18. hello, I just received my Vintage Ai Odree and I'm totally in love with her pretty face!
on the contrary, the body is terrible! I mean - it looks very nice, i really love her hands, but the poseability is NONE in fact :(

I was wondering, as some people before thought about it - did anyone try putting LJ on a different body? did it work? i'd love to see the effects of that!

as for the shoes for LJs, i don't know if anyone before me mentioned it, but Musedoll Petites also have 5cm feet, and they carry a line of shoes for them, so it's worth checking.
Also Minoru world has shoes for their Juniors and it's been checked already - they can be a bit tight, but they fit.

    19. I think this question deserves it's own thread but I don't know where. Some folks are perfectly happy with long hair on their guys and some hate it. I tried making LJ Jupiter's face all brown and black shades and still everytime my dh sees it he says, "That's not a boy." And you don't have the typical distinctions of squarer jaw and Adam's apple. (I just went and checked my guys to make sure.) Also, and I am no expert on this, but aren't things rather androgynous in the culture these came out of, drawing wise, manga and whatever else it might be.
Oh, and Luts wigs are still on sale through September 5, I think.
