1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Custom House Little Junior and Junior discussion part 1

Jan 29, 2007

    1. Woops, forgot to mention that I've had a bit of luck with silicone washers in my LJs. Still not wonderful, but a little better at posing.

    2. Itseva - Mars looks fairly masculine to me. Realistically, he's probably more boyish than anything. His rounder chubby face will alway look girlish to non-BJD people. Otherwise you've got to go for more realistic sculpts and those tend to be larger ie SD sized. I find a lot of MSDs look girlish because they're meant to look younger.

    3. I'd have to agree with you Hobbysue, many non-bjd people tend to think most if not all bjds look girly especially the smaller ones (even the more realistic ones).

    4. Thanks for all the opinions on the subject of mature male MSD dolls. I think I've found a shorter wig that I might try. I should clarify though, that I don't mean to make him look manly but mainly more masculine. He's a little boy of maybe 11 in my mind, so no real manliness involved. ^^

I had a hard time picking my MSD boys, because they are meant to be adults in my storyline. I ended up modding an Unoa B-el, so that his eyes are smaller and put his head on an AoD body, because they are pretty tall and have a broader chest. For my other bother boy I chose a Soulkid boy body, because I liked the lankiness of it. He's still tall at 44cm but looks like he needs to fill out a bit more. Once I have teh moneez again, I'm going to get a Narin heartbreak head. The factory face-up makes the head look horrible but I've seen one arround here that really showed me the potential of the mold.
Err, sorry for digressing so much! :)

Anyways. guls207, finding nice clothes for LJs can be hard! I tend to dress my boy in MNF clothes. They look baggy on him but I like that look for him. If you need pants that are more fitted you should try Marsh Pants. She makes custom pants and I know that she has LJs in her program. Her work is great and not more pricey than others I've seen (shipping is included - so great for intern. buyers like me!). She doesn't add a lot of detail to the pants (like pockets etc.) but they fit like gloves and the dolls still have awesome movability.

    5. Bummer all I have is an LJ girl... it looks like their hips are a touch smaller and their waists are quite a bit smaller (over 2cm smaller!) >.< And as adorable as I think they are, I just don't think I can wait this long again to order one.

    6. itseva, thanks for the advice and info! I also have a really hard time with boy dolls, so when I find one I love, I'm in trouble! Lol! I don't mind if the clothes are a little baggy on him so I'll look into some minifee clothes the marsh pans sound good too I keep hearing about them so I might try them out! Eeeps! I'm all excited all over again! <3 >__< I can't wait til my Mars is home! Poor Annabelle is home alone sine two of my dolls are out for faceups. It's so sad to see her sitting in my room like that!

    7. Great. The hook in Micah's wig cap broke off. Now I really have to try something else to keep the headback attached. My father suggested to just use double-sided adhesive tape but I just find that idea messy. I'm seriously annoyed. His headback wasn't sitting too well before, but now all that's keeping it on are his wig and his hat.

Question to all the Junior owners: has anyone ever put a Luts KidDelf head on the junior body. I'd love to hear how it looks like proporton wise and how the nick fit is. Pictures would be very much apprechiated.

    8. I`ve been using a bit of eye putty to keep my Meoroo`s headcap in place. As long as you don`t frequently change eyes it should hold pretty well.

    9. I have not ordered from CH for a long time, but I love the Junior Ai Rena face. Does anyone have her and what is CH quality like these days? They are promising only 2 month wait. Hope that is true. I would love to see Rena pics.
      Thanks!

    10. Rena is new, like, only a few months, as a sculpt and with their current wait times, nobody is going to have her just yet. As far as quality goes, there's seems and some over zealous sanding in some places. My boy didn't come in until this past April, so I don't know what the recent quality is per say, however, if you go into the waiting room, I'm sure there will be people talking about the recent quality of the dolls.

    11. The quality really varries from what i can see from the orders coming in. My LJ`s had really bad seams and i know a few others that did also....however, then there are people that say the seams weren`t bad at all. The resin itself is very nice, its not exactly smooth like plastic feeling which is very nice. The heads are very cute also, though again a few had a few issues.

I`m actually waiting to see if Custom House is going to hold to their new promises. After everything thing that everyone`s been through I think I would wait and see what`s going on first before I ordered again. And as they say, Custom House sales are like waiting for busses, if you miss one another will come along shortly. XD

    12. Thanks Boojum and Sirius53Black! This is helpful. I am going to order Rena. With this sale she is cheap enough to forget about and not mind the wait. I do question why they have so many sales. I have many of the older dolls when they offered LE's every month and a club member which gave great discounts on beautiful full sets. Now it seems they offer sales every month and no LE's. I miss that.
      Thanks!

    13. I have a few pictures from the two that just arrived at my place. I didn't have any giant seams issues, rather I had some over zealous sanding issues. The seams overall weren't too terrible though. Just uneven sanding and some scuffing where the sanding wasn't cleaned up very nicely. We did have a small bubble that had burst on a finger.. it's not a huge deal and can easily be filled in with some epoxy. I can post the pictures if you'd like.

Otherwise the quality isn't too bad. The resin is toothy, but I kind of like that. All that aside, I do hope they can get it down to their promised wait time of two months. They wouldn't be that bad of a company to buy from if their wait time wasn't so long and their customer service kind of.... questionable. I'm skeptical to buy from them again but that's just because after almost seven months of waiting they went and sent me the wrong doll. It's in the process of being addressed, and I'm more or less certain it was because they were rushing to send everything they possibly could as fast as possible, but still...

    14. A little spam of one of the two boys that arrived here last week. This is Mithra, he's the free event head we got with my order (an Irus). Faceup by me. Mithra is, for lack of a better description, an angel. Hence the mark over his right eye.

    15. Mithra is so cute! I'm tempted to order from CH again! Ugh! I really do love their dolls (I've been looking at Jupiter and Uriel)! I'm still trying my hardest to hold off to see if they can cut down their wait time to 4 months or less.

I tried a new wig (it's actually from a porcelain doll!) on Annabelle today:

My Mars (Hamlet) should arrive either tomorrow or Wednesday! <3 >__<

I have a question for those of you who do your own face ups, as you can probably see, I tried to do Anabelle's lower lashes in colored pencil and her toothy resin is making it difficult. Does anyone have tips on doing lower lashes on these kids?

    16. I use watercolor pencil and just lightly draw them on. To make them darker I just go over the line again until it's as dark as I want/need it. It takes a bit of time, but I've been pleased with the results more than once, and drawing it on lightly allows it to be easily removed if you don't like the angle, the direction, or the placement of the lashes. I normally do the lashes first, along with eyebrows, give a very light spray of sealer to keep them in place, and then add any blushing or makeup around the eyes after the sealer has dried.. that's my method though >.> in no way is it perfect...

Thank you for the compliment! Mithra's lips gave me the most trouble... I'm not sure why... they just didn't want to cooperate...

    17. Don't use colored pencil. Water color pencil's is better since it doesn't stain and easier to wipe off. Make sure to sharpen the pencil's to a very fine point. You might want to post to the critique forum since they can give a better critique.

    18. Thanks for the tips! >__<
Lol, for some reason I just thought the critique section was for people who are trying to set up a commission service. Lol, duh!
I'm going to try a few more times before posting in the critique threads...I have to admit I'm a little nervous!

    19. Yeah, it does seem like that's how the crtique forum is used nowadays.... >>; I've posted there a few times and they've been helpful.

Another thing, don't keep your eyelashes the same length and all going in the same direction. Mix it up a liitle. I would look at other faceups and see what theirs are like.

    20. Thought I would share a picture of my little Tomoyo....I`m still unsure about this wig. Going to get a straighter one and see if it suits her better.

And because I`ve been wondering what the actual difference between my boy and girl I just got was I just measured them. The girl (Darea) when measured from the foot up the back to the top of her head comes to 35cm. The boy (Meoroo) when measured the same way came to 37.5cm. Both were measured without shoes or wigs...

Anyone else that got a boy and a girl notice such big difference in height? Just curious...
