1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

D-Storic Bimong event: resin distortion

Apr 14, 2013

    1. Hmmm.. I wonder if my girl is One of those 5 as she was made at a different time.. Or perhaps they only recast her head at a later moment and her body is from the same batch.. Or am I imagining the bulgy wrist?!

    2. @Evelien, you could contact D-storic and ask if your doll is in the same batch as the troubled dolls. It's the easiest way to find out. If there are problems with your doll, D-storic should take a look at it and fix when there is a problem.

If you're new to tan dolls, this may be new information to you, but colour differences after sanding coloured/darker resin have been known for years. Lots of companies place a warning on their website that there is a colour difference where the pour gates were removed and that this is not a factory flaw. They also warn that there will be a colour difference if you sand your doll. Tan resin is more expensive, because it is hard to mix without marbling. Dollshe once wrote that for each good tan doll, he had to throw away 5 marbled dolls. The pigments are darker and need to be mixed very well. If there's one spot with more pigment, it will cause dark streaks in the resin (marbling).
The top of the face-plate isn't a very noticable place once you put a wig on the head, so that's why they put the gates there.

    3. True, but if they still take 2 months to respond, I figured I could ask other people first.
I'll send them an email :)

-edit- I just sent them an email and while doing so, I read my communication with Day Kim again. My order was placed on November 12th and even though the head needed to be recast because of marbling, the body was fine. The body just might be from the wrong resin mix batch indeed.

    4. I was wondering why D-Storic isn't contacting the 5 doll owners themselves. I think they reached two of them on the message board (Chrissa5 and possibly O2Tina), but how are the others to reach them if they so infrequently read their messages?

      RobbinA, your dolls are beautiful!!

Derilan85, in this thread it was 3 Korean real and 2 French real, but they could have been made from the same batch.

    5. Malvina, I forgot to say that skin irritation should not happen with properly cured resin. I've heard from people who are allergic to resin, that they have symptoms from the components before and during mixing, but not from the cured resin, unless they sand the cured resin. If you haven't done so already, you should contact D-storic and tell them of the resin issues.

    6. I took a reference photo of wrists that are normal:
As you can see there is a small bulge on the left wrist, and it's normal, so if you're looking at your doll and see this, don't panic. It's not warping. Narae has slightly chubby wrists to begin with.

I've also noticed that my other Narae from November has a problem with her legs: the right one is a bit longer for some reason and sometimes it takes a bit of widgeting to get her to stand nicely. So if you have issues like that, it's not from warping either. I can take photos of the normal legs too, if someone wants them for comparison.

And as far as the dandelions go, I'm pretty sure those are just how the doll is sculpted. Bimong doesn't sculpt his dolls to stand in that 'back-arch good posture' most companies do. They stand much more naturally with a slouch, and it also affects how the thigh joint is placed. I posted a demonstrative photo of the Narae for someone else in the discussion thread, and I'm pretty sure dandelions are the same way.

Malvina, the difference in the eyes is how she's sculpted. Every 406 I know has a 'lazy eye' so it's not a defect, just assymmetry

But as far as the mouth goes, that looks scary. 406 through 410 should all have the same mouth, since 406-410 are just different versions of the open eyed head. The 404 is also close enough for comparison, as bimong has probably used it as a base for the other eye versions -they have the same dimples in the lower and upper lip, so any differences in the mouths come from the molds and finishing they do to the heads. I took some photos of my 406 and 404 (they have face ups, though) for comparison. I've sanded a bit of the excess resin off from the corners of their mouths to make them more open (this also seems to vary because when I did research all 406s had a more open mouth than mine did), but otherwise the shape is original.

From an angle similar to yours | close up of the 406 | from a higher angle (similar to your reference photos)

The issue with yours seems to be that the corners of the mouth are carved deeper, but the lips itself are pretty the same shape as mine. I know someone else who got two of the same mold (412) and the other one has a mouth that's carved much, much deeper, making the lips appear a different shape. It seems to differ a bit between batches. Maybe a different mold was used or something, but it seems to be something that happens with Naraes (and other companies too) regularly. That being said, those corners are really deep and not very flattering, I would definitely complain about it.

With the resin problem as well, I'd say you should definitely get a new head.

    7. Thanks so much for that picture Yenna. I'm still not sure though. Since my doll's body was made months before her head (it had to be redone because of marbling), she just might be from the wrong resin batch after all. Just to make sure, I sent D-Storic an email.

    8. Yenna, my doll (made in November) isn't warped at all, but as I was checking her posing against the photos you posted on the Narae thread, I was under the impression that indeed, one leg is a teensy bit longer than the other. In order to get her to stand solidly, I have to tilt her lower body a bit to the side. I am kind of relieved that it's not my imagination (or my lack of skill in posing this sweetie) and that you observed the same thing...

I have a 408 head that I can photograph if it seems useful to anyone, but as far as I can tell, it looks just like RobbinA's, only in Ivory. The grooves in the lips are deeper than in my 402's, and so are the corners of the mouth. When I saw the head blank, the mouth didn't seem as pretty as I'd hoped, but with a face-up, it looks fine. No complaints.

    9. Sigune, my doll from November also has the issue, as I said. The one I photographed is older (Dec 2011) and she doesn't have a problem with her legs at all. Something might've happened with the molds and that's why some (if not all) newer Naraes have an issue with one leg being longer than the other. I haven't actually examined mine yet to see if the problem can be fixed with sanding or something. I just tend to yank the shorter leg out of the socket and then re-balance her and it helps -or tilt the lower torso to the side, like you said. (She's not my only doll with one leg longer than the other so I'm used to it).
Edit/ It doesn't seem like the leg itself is longer, it just sits lower in the socket in the lower torso. Minor sanding will probably fix the issue.

    10. thank you all for the pictures and references, your doll are so pretty, which makes me even more upset. no, my mouth, thought slimier in outer shape, but not look like yours, it does not have those nice natural lines\dimples, it looks like all the lower lip is missing it's upper part or was pressed down or something. so after all the comparing, I am still pretty sure there is something wrong with her. of course, if there is no choice I will eventually have to fix her myself, this means I can't sell her, I really wanted to cancel her but D-storic did not replay on time. I am quit stuck now. first I have to be sure it is not dangerous to touch her. But how can I know that? I am waiting for D-storic to replay without much patience. I looked at the board yesterday, there are so many unanswered questions that I have a hard time to believe they will get a hold with the answering thing they have promised.
mean while I will try to connect my credit card company.

I will also write them another mail, RobbinA can I use your photos to send them as a comparison?

As for the people they did contact... what did D-storic suggested to fix the problems, are they going to send new dolls? and what about the shipping costs, and the the horrible duty cost? do you have to ship the damaged dolls back to them?

    11. If you can let us know of the order number of the doll that is having warping problem,
we'll reproduce your order and ship to you as soon as we can.
We're very sorry that you had such a problem.
We now know what caused these problems so your replacement won't have this problem.
      Thank you.

Responded to my letter, I will hope that it will be so:ablink:

    12. O2Tina, that is great! Chrissa5 didn't have to ship her doll back either. Did you write them through e-mail, or through the message board on their website?

    13. I wrote them on the board. I would not like to think that it's just a promise.

    14. I still haven't written to D-storic about my resin warping, because other than her ankles and wrist, she hasn't visibly distorted nor has she been getting WORSE anywhere... That doesn't mean I'm going to keep using the body and 'put up with it'. But they've already sent me another body because of the weird nonexistent second order thing, and they said I could keep it. Because I'm assuming it was made later than the one I have now, I'm hoping it won't have the same problem. I don't think I need to contact D-storic about sending me a replacement body since I've already got another one on the way from them.... But if it arrives with the same problem, I will contact them again. Augh, this is all so crazy...

    15. That's such good news! I still don't understand how there can be only 5 coloured resin dolls made from the warping batch, while yours is yellow Korean Ivory. For the sake of others who ordered yellow Korean Ivory, maybe you should send D-Storic some pictures anyway. I hope you will get the second body soon and that it will be flawless!

    16. Also if it is not cured, it can be unsafe to play with, no? so even if you keep the old body, don't use it please !!!

    17. I also don't understand how only 5 dolls were affected. =\ It seems like a lot more people are having issues...maybe the 5 they identified were reported much earlier than the wave of owners who recently noticed their dolls warping too?

    18. This thread only lists 5 warping coloured resin dolls, and 1 yellow Korean Ivory doll. So Swivelchair's doll is the only one unaccounted for as yet.

    19. Oh ok, I'm just worried because they still haven't even read my message let alone taking the initiative to email me. :sweat
I just want this resolved. I included the pictures I posted here so hopefully they will believe me.
