DaisyDayes' centaur, Elise [17cm of cuteness]!!!!

Apr 8, 2011

    1. Thank you!

She's friends with my little DIM Silf, who was trouble from the day she arrived, so I'm sure Abby will be getting into lots of trouble - er - going on lots of adventures.

    2. Ooh, the Appaloosa idea sounds like it would look awesome! I may try the dapple approach again some day, if I get brave; I saw somebody did it on an SD-sized anthro and it looked amazing, but I just haven't got the skill. Or patience. ^^;

Hahah, well, she's not too much to look at yet. X3 I figure I've got at least a couple more layers of blushing to go, then I'll start work on the tattoos and warpaint.

And I realize my edit to the last post was too late. XD

I'd forgotten to ask earlier - what did you use for S-hooks for your Elise? Did you get them from an "official" BJD source or are they the kind of thing one can get at a hardware store? I've never had to buy separate S-hooks for a doll before; I'm not sure what to look for since I expect they'd have to be really small.

Edit: Eee, Absinthe really does look ready for some high adventure! ^^

    3. Loving the greens you're using on your girl!

I used very fine, shiny finished memory wire, which requires a special cutter (you'll ruin regular nippers...ask me how I know!) and a good strong grip on your round nose pliers. You just have to look at the ones in her wrist and make them in a similar manner. The part that goes into the leg I make as a long U rather than a C...easier to keep the elastic on!

    4. Thanks! She just got another layer finished. X3 I ended up mixing in a bit more of the brighter green pastel and it definitely made a difference. I think maybe only one more layer on most of the parts, with a few more on the face. :3

Cool! I think I may even have some memory wire in the craft room; if not, it should be easy enough to pick some up along with the cutters. I've been reading up on starting some jewelry-making, so I've read about needing the special wire cutters before. :3

    5. Sometimes you can find a multipak that includes memory wire in the right size for a ring. That makes an excellent circlet or hair band for many dolls.

    6. Awesome, thank you! :D I will definitely have to give that a go when I get ready to put my girl back together!

    7. @Malayrush, I love the pic of your girl in the tray. She looks vaguely like an appetizer. :) I can't wait to see her when she's all put back together again.

    8. Centaur Sushi with lots of WASABI!

    9. Malaryrush, Did you ever finish your girl?

    10. Sadly, no. >_< Terrible me.

I got all the blushing done to my satisfaction but when I started working on her tattoos & other markings, I just couldn't get them to come out right and kept doing them over and over... I ended up running into bad weather and finally set her aside. I keep promising myself I'm going to find time to work on her but I never manage it. ^^; I should really just buckle down and start back at it.

    11. Don't let even bad weather stop you! I switched over to Vallejo Acrylic because it's non-toxic and it works a champ even on a rainy day! The only problem you might have is that it tends to 'fuzz' pastels, so if you have some particularly delicate line work it might get lost, but see the OffT Bee I did last weekend? It was raining the whole day!

    12. That sounds like a pretty good deal. I'll have to look into some in the future!

For now, we're back to decent weather and I'm just tired and lazy and bad. >_< ...Maybe I'll get some done tonight though.

    13. Hahah, oh man. I finally got back to working on my girl's blushing today and I'm almost finished. Just need to apply the gloss and maybe do another layer over her back tattoo, then I'm set.

Not even looking forward to restringing. XD It's been almost a year since I took her apart. Fortunately, I took some pictures as I as unstringing her so I'd have a guide to go off of, but...eeee.

I regret never making some tiny S-hooks for her; I liked the looks of those.

Edit: Hahah, well, I'm finished. XD I will need to redo the face-up at some point since it's not very good, especially the lips. >>; But I figure it's OK for my second ever face-up and the first I've done on anything smaller than an SD.

I'll probably want to restring her again at some point. Next time I'd like to cut the elastic in half for the front end, string separately, and replace the little loop with a tiny S-hook. I tried hot glue sueding and started on wiring the limbs, but it didn't seem to be working out too well. XD More work for another day.

I'd also like to replace the wig & tail. I commissioned these, but I was pretty unhappy with the quality.

    14. Wow...been a while since there were any new posts in here. I just wanted to pop in and say that I bought a second hand Elise this last week, paid in full already, who should be shipping out to come home on Monday. I was really hoping to be able to see more owner photos of this little lovely, while I mull over what exactly I want to do with mine once she gets home. Guess I'll go look and see if there's a database, and do some google searching.

    15. Bumping up poor little Elise to say that mine is home, and I could not be more in love with her! Working on making her something to wear more to my tastes, and trying to get her to tell me her name. Will also be re-stringing her when I have the time so that I can add hooks to her hooves, and maybe her wrists. Considering wiring her, too.

    16. Oh boy, it's been quiet here. Congrats on your new girl! Do you have any pictures yet?? Ive been thinking of wiring mine but I am too chicken to restring her!

    17. No photos yet. Still working on her new top, hoping to get it done in time for a meet tomorrow. But I bought Kitywolf's girl! Hoping to have photos in the next couple of days, though. Maybe I'll actually remember I have my camera with me at tomorrow's meet and get some shots of her there.

Still debating with myself on a name for her. Right now 'Shimmer' seems to be my top choice. We'll see how she and I feel about it in a week or two.

    18. I have photos! And she's definitely sticking with Shimmer as her name unless my husband can give me a better name, because I REALLY like it, and so does she.

So I'd like to introduce my miss Shimmer!

    19. Popped in because my name is Elise :P What a unique doll *_* Shimmer is really beautiful!!
