Decode Volks Headplates?

Jun 21, 2005

    1. Eeeek! Thank you for scanning that piece of paper in! I had forgotten, but that also has the store name on it! ^_^ And yours says Ginza, which would go with your letters being "FGI", if my theory is correct. *grin* Is it okay if I link to this image in my original post to see if anyone else has theirs also?
(Btw, your boy must be a relative of zalem's Kaine! He's just one serial number earlier! ^^)
And if it makes you feel any better, they never seem to get the info right on that piece of paper! I got two last year that said "Mini Super Dollfie" even though they were also F-16 boys!!
      Oh, interesting about the 2004 on your certificate.. mine doesn't even have a year at all so I guess they realised a bit belatedly and decided to just take the year off. ^_^;

    2. yes yes it's ok ^^

You're right, I remember that we both ordered our f16 through Domuya and in the same period ^^

    3. Akumu's headplate says F.1451, so does the piece of paper I have with his serial number. His certificate has disappeared? Now I have to find it, drat. Regardless, I ordered him March or so of this year from Domuya. He was from Sato.

    4. Yes..my three stamps match your picture. Definately the same.

    5. I keep wondering what people think about Volks dolls without their little head plates. Is the lack of it an important flaw for you? Or maybe not? After all it's not even noticable when the doll has a wig on...

I've seen Volks dolls/heads without their head plates priced the same as the ones with them (not saying it's wrong, just sharing my observations). I've seen people listing their doll's head plate as one of the things that would come with the doll-- like if it's some kind of optional extra. Once I was sold a Volks head without its head plate-- the seller didn't mention the lack of it.

For me the doll's head plate is very important... After I realized that not everyone thinks the same, I always ask sellers about it (unless the doll is brand new), even when the doll's condition is stated as "excellent". Now another question-- do think it's annoying/stupid to ask about your for-sale-doll's head plate when you clearly state that the doll is in excellent condition? Do you think it's like asking "hey, does your doll still have all fingers?"?

    6. It's really not important to me--you don't see it under their wig, and the only function it serves is to have the company name on it. I already know my Volks doll is a Volks. Hypothetically speaking, if I were selling a Volks doll, it wouldn't offend me if somebody asked--I wouldn't want someone to buy the doll and then be unhappy with it, but it's not something that matters to me personally.

    7. Thus far this hasn't been an issue for me, but I do consider it important. It does have the month and year the head was made on it, for example . . . and if it's not there, it wouldn't exactly be easy to replace!

I'd want sellers to mention if it were gone (and have seen some Y!J sellers do so . . . Closet Child usually shows the plate in sale photos on their webpage). I know it doesn't necessarily prove authenticity, but to me it's part of the doll.

As for your second question . . . if I were a seller, I don't see being annoyed by that question. There's too much money involved to not get what you want ^_-. However, it really should got without saying that it's there unless the seller says otherwise . . . IMHO.

    8. One of my four SD girls came to me without her headplate, and it really bothers me.

It doesn't detract from her beauty or the special place she holds in my heart... But I do grieve for that silly little golden oval... :sweat

    9. While I don't think the presence or lack of a headplate should factor into the price of a doll, I'd be pretty disappointed if I didn't receive one and it wasn't mentioned in the sales text. Luckily, all of my boys came with theirs (except for my two school heads, since Volks does not give them headplates) and they're all in place and have never come loose. It's nice to have them especially for my FCS boys that I've bought secondhand, so I can decipher where and when they were made. :)

    10. I think I would be a little surprised if a missing headplate wasn't mentioned in a sales listing... I do consider it to be part of the doll, especially since it has things like the release date and stuff, dependant on which Volks it is.

I see a lot of sales that mention the headplate has fallen off and had been glued back on again... I guess they must be pretty easy to nudge loose, and perhaps fall off unnoticed and go missing, which would be a shame :(

    11. This is interesting, I didn't know that some people didn't mind about the headplates!
It didn't occur to me that this might not be mentioned. I've only bought one doll second hand and she has everything of hers that she should do.

If the headplate was missing, and I wasn't told, I probably wouldn't be very happy with the sale. I'm an extreme perfectionist.. and, well, it's part of the doll.
It might not be important to some people, but I think any missing things should be clearly stated in the sale description. ;)

I always mention every little scratch or tiny flaw I notice, even if it's just a tiny one in their included outfit.
I want the person who buys from me to get a pleasant surprise - not an unpleasant one!

    12. The headplates do tend to fall off, and it doesn't matter to me at all if I'm confident about the authenticity of the doll. But lately there have been more recasts on the market of just the heads, so I would be suspicious unless I had a lot of confidence in the seller. (Doubly so if the price seemed too good to be true.)

    13. It is VERRRRRRY important to me. My Volks Michele came without his gold plate. I almost cried :(
I contacted the previous owner and asked for it, but she claimed that she shipped it with the head (which I don't know if I want to believe).
I couldn't look at him for few months after that (this was partly because of his missing headplate, but I had a lot of problems before getting him, so that was the part of it too)..
Even now when I look at his headcap, I get depressed T..T
Would I care so much if he wasn't limited? Yes, I would care and worry about it, but not as much as I do for my Michele.

    14. I actually just bought my first plate-less Volks head. Doesn't bother me at all. Granted, I do like knowing the age of my doll if possible, but I'm more interested in how pretty it is than the plate.

TBH, I think the papers/pins dolls come with are much more fun anyways, though the lack of them doesn't bother me either.

    15. It is very important to me, I like to know the provenance of my dolls and the headplate is all part of that. All of my Volks dolls have their headplates and even if they fall off in the future I will try as much as I can to keep them in place. I would be really upset if I lost a headplate or if I bought a doll without one because I consider the headplate to be a big part of the authenticating process. A Volks doll without an official Volks headplate is not worth as much as a Volks doll with one simply because of the amount of recasts flooding into the hobby, to command Volks resale prices you must be able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the doll is genuine and the headplate is important for that... but that is just my opinion, ymmv.

    16. It's not very important to me... but yes the seller should mention it if it's missing, as that's just proper selling behavior!

I think a fake would be very very obvious, at least to me. I've never held one in my hands but I've handled enough bjd over the last few years to really have a sense of every different kind of resin and what a certain head's resin should be like.

    17. It's not that important to me personally, but I do feel that a missing headplate should be disclosed by the seller. My Chii's headplate fell off, but it was in the box with her. If it had been missing completely I would have been a little angry that it hadn't been mentioned. I still haven't gotten around to putting it back on her, though.

    18. Yes, if it is a standard, a limited, or a FCS than I want a plate. All of my girls have one and all my past girls have had one.
Now, if it is a One-Off than it is not a big deal since the One Offs do not have the plates from what I understand. I would rather buy a one off and have no plate than not get the chance to buy the one off (especially if it was a Shinku or Chii...yeah that be sweet). Anyway, I would have the One Off certificate to prove the reason it does not have the plate is because it is one off. The certificate bee enough authenticity for me, but I would only buy a one off new so I would not worry so much about it, it be more of a resale thing.

    19. It really depends on the doll, honestly. For a standard or an easy to find, near retail price LE, than I'm really not too bothered provided I trust the seller and the seller can reliably tell me how old the doll is (in the case of a standard). However, if I'm going to shell out big bucks on the secondary market for a LE . . . it darn well better have its headplate! ;)

I definitely agree that a seller should state if the headplate is missing. If it has fallen off though is included I don't see the need to mention it though, Volks headplates commonly fall off. At least a third of the dolls I have received directly from Volks have come with their headplates off and loose in the box so its really not a big deal.
