Decode Volks Headplates?

Jun 21, 2005

    1. I have an old Mimi head, before the head plates were even used, and 1 of my yo's never had hers. But she is my #1 doll. I would hate to have missed out on her over a little gold plate.

    2. I came back to add to this ^^;;
I just recently (like a day ago) sold my Michele.
Surprisingly, many people who wanted to bring him home didn't care about his missing headplate (I thought no one would be interested in him because of this issue).
But some were not as comfortable and asked for more detailed pictures including the volks marks inside the head.
I totally understood them though, I would have done the same if I was going to buy a LE head with no headplate.

The glue left on the back of his head was.. very important to me, and I felt like if I remove it, it's like removing the trace of Volks from the head..
So I packed him without cleaning that out..
Now that I think of it, I should have cleaned it out >_> Hopefully the buyer doesn't mind that...

    3. For me, the headplate of the doll is really important like a part of doll.

All my Volks heads have them, and I won't buy them without headplates espacially those are limited Volks dolls.
Some paople may think that it is an unimportant little shinny gold thing but, for me it is more important than that.

Several of my dolls headplates are fall off and I have to glued them back, because I love to see it in place more than leave it.
I'm always feel this is a completely part of my dolls, I may feel upset if the doll I bought doesn't has its gold plate...
except... the price is MUCH lower.

    4. It just bothers me to think that an owner (the ones who don't tell you the plate is missing) didn't take the time to put the gold plate in a bag to keep safe if it fell off (which they sometimes do). Makes me think what else the owner forgot and never mentioned, and just leaves a bad vibe about the doll, like he wasn't cared for or something.

    5. For Volks limited dolls, head plate is very important to me, if the head get damaged or yellowing, I can give it back with the head plate to Volks and buy a new one, without head plate I get nothing except to cost more higher price to find it in 2nd market.

    6. cleric, I didn't know that Volks can give you a new limited head. That's interesting.

    7. Hi ^^

i hve a question ^^ ...doese ALL Volks-heads ever had a plate? ...Or dese the old heads havent a plate?

    8. anouc1985: The very, very first dolls do not have plates. I'm not certain when they started doing the plates, but my oldest Volks dolls (Sweet Dreams Myu) has a plate from 2003. Also, School heads don't come with a plate.

    9. I can't say it bothers me, simply because most of my guys wear wigs secured with silicone caps which makes it very faffy to get them on and off... which means that I never see the headplate under all that! It certainly wouldn't concern me one way or the other in a sale, and I can't remember ever having thought to ask about it when buying from the marketplace to begin with.

    10. To me I guess I would have to say that it is important, especially when I'm buying second hand. There have been several bootlegs/recasts of volks head sculpts the years I've been with this hobby that a headplate gives me some sense I guess of security that I know I'm getting a true volks. I know I've had my headplate fall off one of my Michael's but I stashed it in his head till I was able to glue it back in. It is also very nice to have it to know the time frame from which it came as well.

Tenshi - I don't too much know about the sd size school heads but my msd rock (a school doll) did come with headplate.

    11. Yep, my Madoka's a recast too. The original was in terrible shape and her previous owner decided to send it to Volks and buy a new one.

    12. I don't own any Volks dolls, but the preservation of a maker's mark is important to me. I don't think I'd purchase a Volks doll sans head plate unless it was an older sculpt I desire and would be uncertain about finding again (e.g. Madoka).

    13. Yes, in this age of bootlegs-and-recasts galore, yes, I think the headplate HAS become rather important. If I were trying to buy a limited Volks sculpt, & came upon one without a headplate, I would have to be very sure about that doll's provenance (i.e. I would have to know/trust the seller well) before spending market-price on it. But to me, any fullset worth a glance would've been well-cared-for enough that the headplate is at least included, anyway.

Also yes, headplates DO fall off at random sometimes!... so I would forgive one whose sales page states that it's been re-glued. (Again, if I were reasonably sure of the dealer's integrity & knew they were likely to be selling real Volks dolls.)

    14. Thanks tenchi for answer ^^

Another question, did i understand right?
If a Volks-doll have her plate and its damaged you can get a new one from volks? Oo""

    15. Like I said: the previous owner of my Madoka did send her to Volks to be recasted, because she was in bad shape. So now I have a relatively new Madoka with a headplate that looks like it was run over by a car...

Only the head is new, the head cap is not.

    16. But a new head is better than nothing Oo ...

    17. I know. That's why I love Volks for this option.

    18. To me the head plate is probably as important as the head itself:sweat... I wouldn't buy a Volks Limited without it... I have gotten 2 of my dolls recasted by Volks, and the only way they would recast is if the head has it's Head Plate and you live in Japan:sweat

    19. it does not bother me to much. my doll has one but if he did'n i'd love him the same.

    20. Yes this is part of Satogaeri services Volks offers

People who are more familiar with this can correct me, but I believe you need to have certificate and the head with gold plate etc and pay a replacement fee

I do not remember what the rest of the process is I will have to dig up that paper etc to look at the proper protocol
