Did how many dolls you plan to have change?

Jun 26, 2008

    1. Well, when I started, I had my boy and my girl, Liam and Lilith, and I said "Okay, I'm good!" Then I saw Mo-2, my Elias... and... well, it was love. Now, I had three. Okay, done-done.

But I had seen Feilian from Dollzone a month before I bought Liam and Lilith, and I secretly wanted her very badly. So i told myself I would not buy her unless I found one for sale on the DOA marketplace. Well, what in the world did you know, I flipping found one.

So now, I've stopped telling myself how many I'm going to get. I started out with two, and now I have four, and there are three others I know I really want to get. So likely, I'll end up with eight before I'm through. -_-'

How did I end up loving this hobby so much again?

    2. I started with thinking I could do with only one, but this changed even before I had bought my first doll. While fleshing out the story I made for him I soon realised I needed +/- 10 dolls to be able to tell it.

Lucky for me I'm not impatient, I don't need them within a given timeframe. If I need twenty years to get them all, it's fine by me.

    3. I don't even own any dolls and my 'planned number' has flip-flopped a couple times! I think I started thinking that one would be nice, maybe possibly two. Well, for me, when it rains, it pours, so the moment I started looking at BJDs (in search of a good gift to put on my birthday wishlist) , I obsessed over them for the next couple weeks (still am! I'm new, hi =P ) .

I forgot all about 'just one', and started thinking of what number would be good for the amount of dolls I should get. It was three for a while, then bumped to five, but then cut to three again. I was glad when I could cut it to three, because I was afraid five would be a bit much XD . But alas, as I kept poking around, thinking of what I wanted out of a doll set, it turned back into five again... and I just couldn't think of any way to cut it back down to three while staying satisfied! I gave up, and resigned myself to the perfect number five.

The numbers 1, 3, 5, and 10 are beautiful to me, for some reason, so I seem to 'snap' into those numbers naturally. I don't want four dolls, or six, or something else random like seven. Weird, huh?

Anyway, for me when it comes to choosing dolls it's not about 'what dolls I think are beautiful', though that's important too. It's not that I found five beautiful dolls and just didn't want to give up any of them, I settle on these numbers before I even look for the dolls. So I don't think I'll have as many problems about going 'Oooh, but I NEED this other doll! Screw it, I'm getting a 6th one!' I've already resisted one 'love at first sight' doll (*sigh*) so I think I can do it a few more times ^^; . YES, FROM HERE I MAKE A PROMISE, I SHALL NOT BREAK THIS VOW OF ONLY FIVE DOLLS!

      Ha ha,
      ali

    4. lol.
When I first got into this hobby I was like "Omg. And this char, and this char, annddd this one etc." So I was planning on having like a billion of dolls.
After I finally got my first one.. I took a giant step back and realized that this was serious business. xD
Now I really think over dolls I want. Also, I don't think I'm capable of owning more than 5 or so.

    5. Well, I was planning on three, But i know its most likely gonna be more then that. Miantly because I already have one, ordered the second head and saving for the body, two more are in my wish list. :P oh well!

    6. I haven't even bought my first doll yet and it has. Originally I only wanted two or three. Now as I look through all the sculpts avalible and learn more about the different sizes and companies, I think I'm going to want more than that. Which I think is good, but is very bad for my pocketbook in the future.

    7. for me it keeps on changing. I have three now, and one floating head, but I have quite a list of characters i'd like to put in a doll.
as long as I don't have the funds for any of them, I'm happy with the bunch I have. But I think I will buy a few more, just to make the story complete.. or for whatever really good reason there is :)
it may be 11 dolls today, or 5 tomorrow.

    8. Yes, very much so! I originally only planned to have two dolls, but now I have four and two more on the way. There are also five more dolls that I desparately I want, so there is no telling what my final collection will be! But, the dolls are getting to be a little much to handle so I may have to stop at seven.

    9. I originally planned to own only one BJD, firstly and lastly because of the costs. Now that I have my Ezra, I've been thinking of getting a female doll to have a couple... But it turned out that my sister got hooked into the hobby after seeing my BJD and she's dying to have a DM S-Kyle Reese. When I told her I wanted to buy a female doll, she objected and said I should actually buy another boy to add to my collection... Maybe a 70cm+ guy, in fact. And, well? I think she's convincing me...

    10. Well, I planned on just having one, my CP El. Then, I wanted a Too and Bea, so that was three. I only bought the Too, though... aaand then I ended up buying more dolls. After a lot of buying and selling, I have 8, none of which are the ones I started with XD; A bit more than the 1 I originally planned.

    11. oh lord liek a billion times: 1,2,3,4,10, 12, 16, 18,16, 18, 17,18, 20, 30, 28, 30, 33, 35,36, 35,34,35, 34 Close to something like that but i prob missed alot in thereXD

    12. My "planned number" keeps on going back and forth. I'll start out focused on one or two... but then there's that one that I just remembered I really like, I have to have that one, and I really need a doll of this character... Until it starts to get way out of hand, and I'm at something like 15, with about 6 more characters hanging around the edges, and I cut it back to the core one or two. Then I start all over again, usually with a completely different list. :sweat

On the other hand I don't even have one yet, so I probably shouldn't get too ahead of myself.

    13. yes, a lot!
when I first started I planned to have a huge collection of BJDs but now, years later, after finally buying my first BJD my wishlist has shrunk considerably and so have my plan of how many dolls I'll have
I used to think that having 20 dolls wasn't too many but now I think that 5 is way too many (for me)

although I do have plans to get my girl a twin someday I'm pretty content with just having her for at least a few years before getting another one

    14. I WILL NEVER! Yeah right...Everything changes all the time for me in this hobby!
First I was only going to have one SD, then I bought another boy. Then I bought a SD girl. Later I bought msd girls, and yosd girls. Everything I said I would not do I have done and I love it =)
Now I love girls the most, that was impossible for me in the beginning and my favorite size is yosd and that I said I would never have. ^^

    15. I'm currently planning for four bjds, all in different size (pukifee, yosd, 33cm and msd). But i'll never say never!

    16. I never thought I'd be able to own one, but now I do, have another doll on layaway and have two more I am saving up for.

    17. Uh, yeah.... and it still does.

I think the number of dolls I plan to have has changed about 5 times, because as I have been in this hobby, the story my dolls are involved in has developed more. I have found more dolls that have inspired new characters, so my wishlist has gotten bigger. It's kind of why after I reached like....12 dolls(?) I have stopped actively looking at new sculpts and try my best not to.

    18. When I first got into the hobby I didn't have a set amount of dolls I wanted to get so yes, in that sense I did change it since now I've got a limit of perhaps 20 to 25 dolls. I wish I could say I wouldn't mind more but even that 20 is slightly uncomfortably pressing my comfort zone as it stands right now. I just don't think I could handle that many dolls very well and I'm a little afraid of neglecting some at some point in favor of others which is something I don't really want to do...

    19. Yes, yes it did, I could lie and say I always planned to get 3, but that's a dirty lie. Originally, I only wanted to get one and for 4 or so months, that was good. Then I decided to get 1 more (which I waited many more months after to actually get her). After she came, my mom bought me a floating head for my birthday, and now I was just looking at getting another one for Christmas. I know I'm eventually going to get more dolls, so while I had this idea that I would only have one, I have long since given up on it since doll family limits tend to get broken in this hobby. As of now I'm now planning for any amount (whatever I end up getting), and accepting any that I buy as long as I've had time to bond with my other ones previous.

    20. Yes, entirelly so. At first I was planning on around 10, now I have more than that already and plan for more still...still don't want more than 25 or so dolls, but yea...
