Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Did how many dolls you plan to have change?

Jun 26, 2008

    1. When I first saw my friend's BJDs, I thought she'd gone crazy...money, doll crazy...then I got to thinking about dressing those dolls and went for the cheapest quickest doll she could help me find. Because it was for a model...but then I fell in love with my cheap doll, and two more really good dolls another friend was willing to barter. Next a UFO I adopted from my friend, so now I'm at four and always looking as like nature and flowers BJDs are a pleasure to observe!

    2. Well...see I am a long time 1/6th collector and when I first discovered BJDs about 3 months ago, I had NO intention of ever getting any. Then I start getting inundated with pics of other people's stuff of a couple places...my resolve finally weekened to the point I said OK, maybe just one sho I could participate in a few more things and she'd be fun to have around...but JUST one!!!

Yeah "just one" as a mantra lasted about 3 days. I only HAVE one at the moment, but I've plans for a whole lot more.

      Gods I am so weak....

    3. Yes and no.

At the very beginning there was only going to be the one, but that soon changed into the notion of three dolls - a good solid number in my mind...

At this particular moment I have five dolls and two floating heads, but I'm planning on selling three of the dolls I have and one of the heads before buying my last floating head a body - this would bring me back to the good, solid number three where my doll family (hopefully) will stay... Until I get the money for one of my extreme dream dolls, which won't ever happen since they are all limited editions (letting me stay at that good, solid number: three :D) ;)

    4. Since I'm a beginner I don't know. I only have one but time will tell. Whatever seems right. Somehow I think I'll know when I'm through buying. Or it could change later. Guess the answer is, it's too soon to tell.

    5. Oh me! First it was just one. But now I'm getting one and I kind on getting two more. BAD ME!

    6. I do not believe the change, the truth I do not want many, with the two boys that I have, and yo-sd, I have more work, but in list expand to two girls (MSD and SD) a boy (yo-sd) and a pet but then I think you can not undo them, especially the first.

    7. Well, It changed a lot. I guess when you got into this hobby more and more, your way of thinking actually changes.. At the begining, I only love boys, and thought that 2 would be the perfect number... But after have 2 1/3 boys, I start to have 1/4s, 1/6s, and ended up with a lot... But Now, not only I found out that I love girls more, but also, I have reduced the number of 1/4 and 1/6 from my resin family.

    8. I thouht 8 at frist but I have 11 now.

I won't fix the number of dolls I'm going to have now.

    9. I never planned for one. I first thought that maybe two or three would be nice, each in different sizes... but I have three tinies now, and plans for quite a few more... Part of me still thinks that 10 is my limit- buuut we'll see how it turns out ;)

    10. I wanted two, a male and female SD couple. Maybe a child for them somewhere in the future. I got well... lets keep it with...more.

    11. Uhm... yes it most certainly did. I blame fairyland.

The very very very first wishlist I ever had involved finding and getting these characters:

      -May (My Kingdom Hearts Character)
      -Sanyu (Whom I own)
-Gael (Whom I am saving for... but at the time was my 'expensive dream doll' sort of thing.)
      -A~and Minimee Fairy twins.

My first doll was going to be the Minimee Fairies... then I thought I had found a good May. Then Sanyu jumped out at me and I got her.

Then I decided that I didn't want the Minimees or May any longer. I already owned Sanyu, so that left my wishlist as:

-Gael (Whom I found much cheaper than planned and promptly began saving for.)

I told myself no SD dolls, and no guys... and no dolls that weren't based on characters.

We~ell then I move and end up meeting a real life puki. It was love at first sight. Even Sanyu loved the puki. So my new wishlist was:

      -Gael
-A puki... with no name or character... just to have a puki.

And if that wasn't bad enough... Fairyland released the Little Fees. And I went "Look! It's Delaney!" when I saw an Ante and fell in love. Now Delaney is from a story I've actually worked hard on since and Delaney has an older sister and then there's a guy in the story as well. So I'd have to get SDs to match her Little Fee size. And one would have to be a guy. And then Delaney's sleeping face-plate would turn into my version of Snow White...

So my NEW NEW wishlist suddenly jumped in size! And everything I told myself not to do had been done, all thanks to Fairyland:

      -Gael
      -Delaney/Belladonna Snow
      -Gwendolyn
      -Alistair
-And a Puki with no name.

Then I decided to write on a story I've been playing with on and off since I was somewhere around Six or Seven years old (yes, you read that right) and finally created a character design that I liked. And the girl suddenly developed a twin as the story changed... and one fateful day I go "They would make such awesome dolls! And they'd satisfy my want for dolly twins!". Time for a NEW NEW NEW wishlist:

      -Gael
      -Delaney/Belladonna Snow
      -Gwendolyn
      -Alistair
      -Sera
      -Cheru
      -Aura
-And a puki with no name.

And so one day I decide to make a character for a puki. I want the puki to be a fairy, but I've never written a fairy story. Then BOOM! Three little pixies that are about puki size seem to jump into my head and introduce themselves as I get this sudden image of a girl laying in the grass, getting hit in the head with an acorn. Suddenly one puki turned into the pixie trio. And then I run off an decide to write a story about the girl in the grass, who is in the land of fairy to save her sister.

And so now my current (huge) wishlist is:

-Gael (Satisfies my love for tan dolls, MSD sized dolls, and my urge to have a doll with henna and a belly dance wardrobe.)
-Delaney/Belladonna Snow (Gives me a tiny in white skin. And then Snow gives me a 'fractured' fairytale character.)
      -Gwendolyn (Hey look, an SD.)
-Alistair (A white skin SD who is a boy.)
      -Zip (Puki #1)
      -Acorn (Puki #2)
-Lilly (Puki #3 who is a girl)
-Annalise (Another white skin tiny... with blind eyes and pale freckles)
-Gloria (A normal skin tiny with red hair, green eyes, and freckles... because I really wanted one of those, anyway.)
-Sera (Now my new idea of 'project dolls' due to their wings and facial features.)
      -Cheru (Twin of the previous.)
-Aura (Part of the Sera/Cheru story... Also steampunk. SD sized.)

So I'll have a rather large collection of very random dollies. I'll have white, normal, and tan skin. I'll have SD, MSD, Tiny, and Puki sizes. I'll have fantasy, sci-fi, steam punk, and modern day... I'll have things with wings, blind eyes, vampires, freckles, and twins... And this better be my final ultimate wishlist or I'll be broke for the rest of my known life... and then some...

    12. i bought my first bjd and that would be it, i thought.
one is enough for me. i did not want any more, i felt that it would be too much, then i came across a must have doll and was sure this was it, i was going to leave it at two...now i own 8 dolls and i am waiting for my new doll!

    13. I promised myself in the beginning that I'd only have one, so when I went on holiday I got my first MSD. But now I am obsessed with buying a MSD and SD boy >< And I am definitely going to buy another BJD when I next visit Japan!!! I can see the numbers rising rapidly...

    14. Mine changed a lot.

At first, before I ordered my first doll, I wanted only 1. Maybe 3. And when I ordered her, I had already 3 doll characters that I wanted to put into a resin form.
And not long later, I had 6 characters / dolls on my wishlist.

Now I own 15 dolls (including floating heads and my incoming doll) and I have at least 10 dolls on my wishlist. Lol. But I don't set myself a maximum anymore. I'll keep buying and creating characters untill I ran out of inspiration. Or money. :sweat

    15. I don't think I ever had a set amount in mind, though I only had 2 for about two years then it kind of exploded and now I have...um..well about 20 heh. I guess I always thought I wouldn't really want any MSD's but I loved Unoa's so finally got one a couple of months ago, and now I have a JID on the way and planning an MNF :P

I guess I just go with the flow now and if I really like them then I will get them (or try too anyway). Part of me wishes I could just have one and dote on it, but I wouldn't be able to :P

    16. As many as I can afford. Having 18 prs of eyes staring back at you can be quite overwhelming tho.

    17. Like many people when i got my first doll i only wanted one then it went to a max of ten, now i dont have a limit probably under 10 as i cant really afford more then that i'd like to think but you never no:)

    18. Planned: 1
      Having now: 4
      Planning to buy: 4 more

    19. I know for me it did.

I planned to have four or five, but now I am going to have a few more than that if I can afford it...ha. -_-()

Just one at a time....one at a time.

    20. Simple answer: No.

Longer answer: When I ordered my first doll I wanted one to start with, but I never set a limit. My parents have always encouraged collecting as a hobby when I was a child (it made it easier for them and relatives to figure out what to get as a birthday present) and it meant that I got to save up money, get a new item, treasure it, and then save up for the next. I never had "collection goals" as in I had to reach a certain number or get one of certain amount of variants.

My doll collecting is similar to that. I get what I like and I don't have preset goals of how my collection is supposed to look. When I got into this hobby I had no ideas about how many dolls I would own eventually, but I centainly didn't expect I'd get over 15 in 2,5 years. Where did all that money come from? XD
