1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. I know what you mean MegWesley, I have four pairs of shoes for myself, but dozens for my dolls!

    2. I've always been a good online shopper, so BJDs didn't change much there, but the weird thing is, when I tag along to shops with friends, I'll see something random and say: "Argh, that would be perfect for this doll/that doll! DAMN!" xD

    3. I used to be afraid to spend my money until I bought a BJD.... xP So yes, it turned me into a shopaholic, for BJDs. I'm still unable to spend money on clothes and stuff, but BJDs? Hell yeah! (Unfortunately)

    4. Nah! Husband thinks I was already a shopaholic -- BJD's just gave me more to shop for!

    5. Before I got into this hobby I wasn't into shopping that much, just buying a videogame or manga and anime every so often. Now that I have my boy, I keep finding clothes that I like and then I keep finding dolls to fit my characters. Even though I have so many wants for my doll, I still have to remember to stay in control of my finances.

    6. Probably... For example, I want to buy little bits and bobs all the time mostly toys for my yosd. I was never in to blind bag toys since they were a phenomenon that wasn't really interesting when I was a kid, but now it's like... these are the perfect size for my yo!! I must have them! And clothes and more dolls, too... crazy stuff ; A ;

    7. Obtaining BJDs has definitely turned me into a shopaholic. I am a lot older than most of you. I had never really learned to use a computer, avoided them like the plague, however once I got hooked by BJDS my world changed. I learned to use a computer to shop for BJDs, then I learned to use a computer better to shop for pretties for them. I now spend 8 hours a day online. I am now the local expert in my BJD group on what to get where. The best price on MSC?, I know where to get it. The place where you can buy 5.5mm elastic by tens or hundreds of yards, I'm your girl. Where to find shoes that will fit a Pipos Cheshire Cat, yup, I know that too. It's sort of empowering really. But I do dream about doll eyes, almost every night. It's a strange little world, isn't it?

    8. This is me in a year. LOL The part about dreaming of doll eyes? I've been attempting to make some and they are so much in my thoughts that yes, I've been dreaming of making them in my sleep! I dream a lot about dolls and their "stuff" actually. Shoes a lot too. Though sometimes I dream about other similarly weird things, like playing Cubis. The other night I had a dream my Kelly was playing Cubis actually, with me. That was pretty funny, a BJD playing backseat driver in a Cubis game...

    9. "$20 for a pair of shoes? That's way too expensive.. ONLY $20 for these DOLL shoes?! That's a steal!"

I've gotten even more frugal when buying stuff for myself xD. When it comes to my dolls.. not so much.. I love buying them stuff *o*! So yes, I guess you could say I turned into a shopaholic xD.

    10. Nah, I've always been a shopaholic, but if anything, being in this hobby has made me even more so than I already was.

    11. Dolls have kind of helped with my shopaholic tendencies...since most everything is online, it gives me a chance to bookmark it and think on it instead of impulse buying like I used to in the stores. Plus, my husband and I have an agreement that we tell each other about what we're going to buy online before we buy it.

    12. I don't like shopping before , but since I bought my first doll I have been shopping more and more , especially miniature stuff for my boy .

    13. No I don't think it have because I don't order bjd related stuff that often. I order because I need something, not because I want something.

    14. Now that I think about it... Yes, yes it did  I don't ever remember spending as much money before I got into dolls. Now I constantly look for things. Yet another way dolls are ruining my life through my wallet :sweat

    15. I was already a shopaholic before getting in to BJDs, so now it's just one more thing to spend my not-bill-money on! I actually think it might make me a little smarter with my spending though, instead of buying random collectibles I see, I think I'll just end up saving the money for another doll or more doll stuff! So it may turn me into a different kind of shopaholic 8|a...

    16. It turned me into a doll buying addict for sure.

    17. I can hang my head in shame and admit it

Yep, if I'm feeling down or really upset for whatever reason I will look at BJDs or anything I like and just shop shop shop! It makes me feel better but I know i'll regret it in the long run :(

    18. I also always was a shopacholic haha, but BJDs added a brand new, very broad field to shop in - just what I needed ... NOT.

I used to spend a lot of money on art and craft supplies but that felt at least a little bit more uh... acceptable? Now I feel guilty no matter what I buy for my dolls cause I know people around me would never understand!
I do agree though that my sense of "expensive" and "cheap" changed through BJDs... like, the head is only 150 dollars?? CHEAP!!! xD
      This is not good!

    19. I did become one and now I am working very hard to not be. We laugh and joke about being shopaholics but it can get scary pretty fast. Just remember that as cute as our dolls are they can survive if they only have one pair of pants. It's important to look after your own needs first. I forgot about that one month and I got sick from malnutrition because I was only eating cheap food. That stuff is inexpensive for a reason! It was a pretty brutal wake up call and I won't be doing that again. Even if it means it takes longer for all my dolls to be complete so be it. I can wait.

    20. I loved to shop even before getting into this hobby,I don't know why though I've just always felt the need to want a lot of things...
