1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. I wouldn't say it turned me into a shopaholic, but it did change the way I saw prices. Big prices don't phase me as much anymore.

    2. OH yah it totally did! Even if I'm out shopping for like non dolly stuff I'm still keeping an eye out for something that could be used for bjds

    3. God yeah. I'm terrible about wanting ALL THE THINGS for my resin girls
      It's terrible xD

    4. I would have to say ish. I am beginning to hoard eyes. If I see a pair of eyes I like, I buy them, even if I don't have a doll for them yet. I do get a bunch of odd and ends for the dolls I have too, then realize why did I get this.

    5. I don't really consider myself as a 'shopaholic' [at least for myself], though, I do have times when I end up splurging more than I probably should on clothes.
I do spend a considerable amount on non-bjd dolls before, as well as on figures and other anime stuff, and I'm still suffering from the backlash of it. x'D
Anyway, in the future, I'll probably end up buying more things for my doll, but not to the extent of being a shopaholic [hopefully!], for them, as I'll still consider my budget and how much of my funds should be going to buying stuff for dolls and how much I should save and all that.

    6. Actually the opposite happened to me. I've never been a shopaholic but after getting into the BJD community officially I have stopped almost all unnecessary shopping. I was always considered a "minimalist" but I am even moreso now that I have 5 girls on my shelf. Unless I absolutely need it I do without it. The reason is so I can enjoy my dolls more by making 90% of the stuff for them. Plus when I make my girls' clothes and items that just saves that much more to bring my next girl home. :)

    7. For them yes most definitely.

    8. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. The reason I don't come on here often is because the marketplace is too tempting... Sometimes I have to go months without playing with my dolls because just touching them will start a craving. OTL When I first started collecting dolls, I thought $100 for one is insane... Now I gladly pay that much for just an outfit!

    9. Not long ago I used to be so stingy with my money (on myself), hardly spending anything and saving everything earned. Then after years of deliberation I finally made my first BJD-related purchases (first some DOD clothes and then a DoC head) and oh my god it was like the floodgates opened, and I've been spending money irresponsibly left, right and centre since x3 That's not just limited to BJD things either. It's like I've been holding back all these years since I put my first savings in the bank and this just cut me loose.
That said I haven't bought a crazy amount of doll stuff in these three short years. I'm still... sort of responsible with my savings? But I probably never would have seen myself spending so much on individual items before now.

    10. Not really.
It would be awesome to be carefree about this and buy all the things I want. Thing is that real life is *** expensive for me at the moment (sky high rent, insurances and other obligations)
So I have to keep an eye on my dolly budget. I actually try to make a monthly budget, since I love to buy stuff. But it's hard. Even more so since the MP is going at a slow pace right now and I don't get much money back from selling items.

    11. I go through periods where I have shopping binges, and then I won't buy anything for months. I've even gone so far as a year before. ...But since joining the hobby (and having a stable job), I've been on an almost permanent binge... Or at least a lot of little binges clustered together. I'm really going to have to work on self-control, because I think this is going to wind up being the norm until I drift off to some other hobby.

    12. No, as I was one already. Now I get into even more trouble than before. And yes, my dolls dress far better than I do.

    13. Tragically, yes. Yes, yes, yes.

    14. ^^^ bjd's introduced me to online shopping, to be more specific :doh

    15. I would love to say "No, I'm not a shopaholic!", but in fact this hobby has definitely turned me into one. I want to buy everything for my dolls. Even when I'm at Walmart or ToysRus, I'm always looking for props or things that might "work" for my dolls. I never feel guilty though. I really love this hobby, and as long as I don't live beyond my means, I don't mind spending my money on things that will make me happy. :D

    16. I am definitely a shopaholic! Even when ordering clothes for my future orders as well. My bookmarks is literally covered in future things I want to buy. Oh my gosh *_* I need to stop x D

    17. XD Kiwi. I shop for my dolls and myself a lot more now. Dolls helped me money manage better so I buy a lot more than I do. I already have 4 future orders planned in full shipping and everything not counting my future dolls (see siggy) 3 pairs of shoes from sadol 4 outfits from angell-studio -continues on- lol pretty things must be bought Dx

    18. No, I already was. I wouldn't consider myself a hoarder, but I do collect a lot of different kinds of toys and other nerdy stuff. Plus, I hope to one day build a small house or cottage just for my toys.

    19. I was like that before having my first doll xD

    20. A different kind of shopaholic >.< I've always liked shopping but now I spend almost all my money on bjds
Almost every day I browse through sites in search for new clothes and add things to my wishlist >.<
