1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. No, I think I was born that way! But the things I shop for are quite different now...instead of clothes & shoes for me, it's for the dolls. :)

    2. My issue is that I want all my dolls to not just have one outfit, but a wardrobe. For example, I just sold a head and was planning to save it towards my upcoming doll purchase at the end of the month, but instead I spent half of it getting a new outfit (and shoes, which he didn't have before) for my current doll Avery.

I've spent nearly $60 on him this week, but because all but $10 of that was because of selling something, it's easier to take. Especially when he had neither his own wig nor eyes in his size, which are now making their way to me along with a new outfit.

    3. I go through phases - I went through a spree over the summer where I bought a new BJD and clothes for half my crew, but I haven't spent a penny on any of the dolls since. I'm planning on buying a doll from Luts during their Christmas event and I might buy my new girl some stuff from etsy but I try really hard not to be a shopaholic (at least when it comes to the kids). I have way too many other things I spend money on (cosplay most of the time).

    4. I go through phases of shopaholicism....
I'll see a wig or an outfit or a doll and need to create a whole look. I see, I like, I buy.... It's a problem

    5. I'll say it does. I spend a lot more for my dolls than for myself. I love to buy them clothes and accessories, and I feel sometimes guilty when I don't buy anything for them for a long time.

    6. I buy more doll stuff now than I used to. I think getting into DDs was my tipping point, I got addicted to buying cute special stuff for them. I started buying way more wigs, eyes, and full outfits once I got my DDs.

My problem is that I can't just buy one or two small items when I shop online, 'cause I can't justify the shipping costs/waiting for something small. I have to buy a lot at once, so whenever I do BJD shopping, it's quite expensive OTL

    7. Yea, it does, since most of my boys are large, and i go for the traditional style, a lot of hunting or customizing for it to look right and fit my boys. Would be a lot more easy if i have smaller dolls, but nooo i have to have the SD :XD:

    8. I would've definitely become a shopaholic if I had the money for it! D:

    9. Oh, absolutely! I mean, I still don't care for shopping clothes for myself, but when it comes to shopping for my dolls, oh boy do I go crazy. I just see all these cute clothes and awesome accessories, and all I do is want, want, want. But yes, getting into this hobby has turned me into a bit of a shopper.

    10. I tend to save money just so I can splurge and buy tons of clothes at a time. Trying to do better with my spending since it is the holidays and I still need to buy some gifts buy after that all bets are off. xP

    11. I've always been kinda shopaholic, but ever since Nat (my first BJD) it's worse, I spend everything, even money I don't have yet, It wasn't this bad when I just had a Blythe/pullip/othersmallerdolls ORZ
and since I'm just starting in the hobby, I want EVERYTHING, thankfully I have friends with dolls too, so I can try their wigs on my doll, so I don't need to buy everything to see what looks nice on her <3

    12. I was originally quite the shopaholic, so no, not really. Getting into the BJD hobby simply meant my options were much wider, to the utter detriment of my wallet and bank account, I can assure you. Especially the doll furniture. Or the clothes. Or the characters I want to shell. Oh gosh... there's no end to it!

    13. same with what a lot of people are saying, I was a shopoholic before BJD's however, now instead of buying things for me~ I buy them for my dolls instead xDDD not much of a money-saver either lmao I probs should've just stuck to buying things for myself! ahahaha

    14. I am the opposite. :D Before BJDs I bought for myself lot of clothes. Now, I got into this hobby I think learned how to spend my money wiser. I admitted that I do not need an other T-shirt if I already have 20+ of them.

    15. I was already a shopaholic. Dolls just gave me another poison. XD

    16. I think so.
When my parents finally entrusted me with a debit card, I bought a BJD right off the bat.
I felt so ashamed because I told them that I wouldn't do something like buy things on an impulse but I did it anyway.
I bought that BJD on an impulse and isn't "shopaholism" all about impulse buy...

    17. No, but mostly because I've never been a shopaholic. xD; I'm definitely a window-shopaholic though! I love window shopping. x3
I am more fashion-conscious now though, funnily enough. After putting outfits together for my doll and learning by looking at other people's doll's outfits, I know a lot more about fashion and putting together outfits for people too. :3

    18. I just bought two BJDS in one night--one from Angell Studio and one from Pipos. I'm having buyer's remorse because I have no idea how I'm going to explain this to my parents. (Disclaimer: I'm a 20 year old commuting college student so I live at home lol x_x)

      I also just spent a lot on Dollmore for some MSD clothes for my new girl that I got back in December. Somebody please take my bank privileges away from me @A@;;;

    19. I prefer the term collector to shopaholic, since I always think of shopaholics as people who just buy things for the sake of buying them but never truly enjoy what they've purchased. But I'm guessing anyone who knows me and my husband would call us shopaholics. It's my "shopaholic" nature that got me into BJDs. I've collected anime figures and statues for years and was frustrated that so many sculpts were of female characters versus males. Female anime figures also became more elaborate -removable costumes and soft parts and I wanted male equivalents!! Then I discovered Ringdoll Sol on Ebay and that opened the floodgates. Luckily, we get to shop yearly in Japan for our collectibles business, AnimeCoast.com but admittedly I spend near as much on dolly treasure there for myself as I do for stock for our shop. ;^_^ But unlike traditional shopaholics, I enjoy my collections everyday -we each have a room for our collections and they are our paradise! XD

    20. Yes and no.
I've stopped shopping for myself, unless it is absolutely necessary, and I did overspend for my Resin for about 1 year :sweat .
I am back to normal now, mainly because I cannot find much to buy for my new SDs. And I'd rather save, as I am planning to spend the cash on future Resins which have not hit the market yet.
