1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. I was a shopaholic and a hoarder before buying a bjd, but I would rarely want to buy clothes online without trying them first, and now, beside my own needs, I purchase doll stuffz that are available online mostly (this means any time, any day), not all of them buyings fit lol, but that's the only way to get them anyway. So yes I think I've become even more of a shopaholic. Also, wigs and doll eyes. I am starting to hoard them. So far the doll stuff heap is nowhere near close to the size of my perfumery collection though.

    2. I don't know about being a shopaholic, but like others before me, it's changed my perspective of expensive. Not in a good way. Lol, my poor husband just brought this up the other day. Amounts of money that once seemed high seem awfully low now. :) Gotta work on that!

    3. Well, from time to time I will buy a whole bunch of stuff all at once but other times I don't spend any money on them at all. It's all coming and going in waves.

    4. Not a shopaholic but owning bjds do give me an excuse to look at ebay and other auction sites looking for deals and cute things

    5. I did not become a shopaholic from owning dolls. I became more of a craft-a-holic. My dolls have tons and tons of handmade clothes. It wasn't until I started having terribly shaky hands that I started shopping more. With my hands so shaky, I can't sew or paint small details anymore. So off to Etsy I go! :D

    6. Yes, of course.
I am a heel-holic, wig-holic and gorgeous clothes-holic, i really easy to fall in love with them T_T
So I sew a lot, buy a lot T_T and my money flew away because of that T_T

    7. I've always been a shopaholic! I love looking for deals, so this hobby just gave me more of an excuse to shop :)

    8. Yes, definitely. I hate shopping for clothes for myself (nothing fits, it's a huge hassle and really stressful), but I love shopping for doll clothes, it's filled a void ;p I can spend hours on etsy looking at stuff for them!

    9. I've always been a shopaholic, just one with lots of self control. Looking at dolls just made me readjust my perspective as to what is "expensive" and what is "worth it". It helps me keep in mind the difference between cost of labor+materials versus retail pricing in all the things I buy and look at. It's really done wonders for helping me try to understand why things cost the price people charge in many things.

    10. I would say it did. Since owning BJDs I would often look at online stores and online shops and even secondhand market to buy clothes, wigs, shoes and eyes for my dolls. I would say that I'm only a shopaholic for my dolls and not for myself. I often look at dolls clothes and think "Oh this whole outfit is 65? that's awesome and cheap!" but when I look at human clothes "$65 for a full outfit? I'd rather not. maybe there's something cheaper."

    11. I think since becoming interested in collecting dolls from polymer clay babies to BJD's I would say I'm a shopaholic. Wigs clothes and props. I'm afraid to total up what i have spent

    12. I'm a total shopaholic!! Self-made package heaven all the way, baby. But seriously, my landlords get a little ticked sometimes :P

    13. I consider myself an extreme lifestyle minimalist. But when it comes to my dolls that flies out the window....

    14. I was a shopaholic for art and craft supplies before my dolls, now I can put them all to good use on my dolls. :D

    15. Yes. I was very good with money before I got my first bid. Since then, absolute shop alcoholic.. clothes, wigs, fabric, wool... Etc. My bf says that our house can become the post office. So happy, it's not only me...

    16. I need to stop buying things for my dolls...they haven't even shipped yet and they each have an underwear set wig, eyes and an outfit or two! And I want MORE stuffs for them....I think its making the waiting easier. All the extras are worth 1/2 what I paid for the dolls!!

    17. No, if anything I shop less now haha, I struggle to justify spending more on a dress for my doll than I would on a dress for me.

    18. I'm a shopaholic even before. Just with a different hobby. I almost put off purchasing other models and focused entirely on BJD's.

    19. Of course outfits are a need in this hobby but I’m far away to be shopaholic because of dolls. I have done a conscientious choice.

    20. Thankfully, no! Having a partner who is very frugal helps to curve my desire to shop. I used to be the worst shopaholic when it came to clothes and makeup, but I'm in recovery. :)
