1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. Well, before I had dolls I sewed fairy, Medieval and Renaissance costumes for myself, which generally took 8 yards of cloth at an average of $12 a yard, now I sew for my dolls which only takes about a yard of cloth or less per outfit. So this hobby is saving me bundles of money. (Except for buying dolls, of course!) LOL!

    2. Boy, have I ever! I mean, I did my fair share of shopping, for videos games and electronics xD And occasionally clothes. But now that I've owned BJDs, I always bought clothes for them and never myself. I haven't bought any new games (which is killing me more than you'd think) and though I never buy clothes as much, I found myself looking at girlier clothes lol.

    3. I've loved shopping online from the time I first started...probably on reel.com back in '96 and then the various Auction sites as they came into being from about '97 on...many of which I miss, like yahoo Auctions & sold.com that were all eaten up by ebay. This hobby really just fed into that love of shopping online for me XD

    4. I'd say yes, yes it did! Ever since I discovered BJDs, I'm always looking for more accessories for them. Wigs, shoes, clothes it never really ends.

    5. In many ways, yes...I find that I can spend $60 on accessories for the BJDs but I balk at spending that much on a pair of shoes or a dress for myself!:doh

    6. Yep. Absolutely. This weekend is going to suck, because I'm buying wayyy too many of them!

    7. It's been really interesting reading this! :)

I was definitely a shopaholic before bjds, but now I find myself questioning purchases and thinking 'if you dont buy that, you could buy some shoes/eyes/wig/accessories etc.. with the money you've saved.... ' ---> but of course, I haven't actually saved anything- just spent it on something else *facepalm* lol

    8. Oh yes devinitly! Bevore i get my first doll i don`t buy so much stuff >.<
But now i look so much time for clothes and wigs for my dolls. These is very bad cause I buy for my dolls stuff but not for me xDD
I need no shoes for me TT-TT
      But dolls are great :D

    9. I have always been a shopaholic, however bjd collecting has changed my perspective on what is expensive. I feel like maybe I'm a little too careless with my money nowadays!

    10. actually, im about the same, i hated shopping and all things girly, (i still hate pink, but my girl has a pink kimono o.e;) but then i discovered bjd's and suddenly im wearing skirts, buying (doll) clothes, buying patterns, and loving the girlyness of it XD. i downloaded the ebay app for my phone just so i could find her more clothes and things.

    11. BJD's didn't really turn me into a shopaholic. It just made my shopaholic tendencies WORSE.

    12. This very much :) Although doll stuff is now pretty much everything I buy (they have more clothes, shoes etc. than me), I buy so much more now than I used to! And also, I'm on the lookout for teensie things everywhere I go, very annoying for people around me, lol.

    13. Oh god, yes. I'm very very stingy and it takes a long time to decide if I'm going to buy something or not. However as regards to dolls... not that much. In fact, BJDs showed me the "charm" of online shopping. That's dangerous...

    14. rosalynmouse, I'm w/you - I've ALWAYS spent lots of money on various geeky things (I own about 1000 books - mostly hardbacks - for instance). I'm a Beledi dancer (belly dance) & had to make those outfits & of course BUY all the cool jewelry & accessories. I was in the SCA (& did the yards & yards of $12 & up material for that authentic Tudor/houpelande, etc). Then I found Cosplay which is NOT cheap....
So no, I've just refocused where I spend the $$$$ LOL

    15. It didn't change anything except what I buy :D

    16. Well I liked to shop before but now its more focused on what I can use for dolls.. I go to a lot of thrift store. I have found lots of things I can use for my dollies. Toys, props clothes you name it. Also I am not above flat out buying a doll and stealing clothes and in some cases the eyes....I just have a tiny that is demanding an armyand weapons. I have a feeling I will be shopping for her soon lol

    17. I've never been much of a shopper but now I always have my eye out for things that will work with my dolls. Anytime I'm online I'm checking out all the doll sites for new releases. I'm always on the lookout for cute new clothing.

    18. Pfffft, I know right? I can't go anywhere now without constantly being on the look out for doll stuff. It's like a virus that infests your brain!

    19. I already WAS a shopaholic. Dolls have just given me something more to shop for lol

    20. YES hahaha! I used to be a lot tighter with my money before I had BJDs. I would think about spending it on things... Then not do it because 'what if there is something else I want down the line and I do not have the money for it?' would come into play.
Now... I spend almost all of my funds on them as long as the important stuff is all paid for.
