1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. Not yet. :P Although that may change in the future. I feel bad spending money in general on myself, so maybe not. This hobby has perked up my interest more in sewing regular clothes more. Still haven't gotten the hang of sewing for 1/4 the size yet!

    2. Yes, in the way that I shop more. But no, in the way that I prioritery the dolls and the photo. I mean, I shop more, but I dont shop clothes, jewelry an hobby stuff too my self. I just buy things to make betther photos and bether doll pictures. I think the dolls give me so much, that I dont think thing I before thougt was expensive is it any more, because the dolls keeps my life having meaning even I am sick at hospital.

    3. I was addicted to shopping around online excessively long before BJDs... But since this is my newest facet of life, it's been taking up about 75% of that shopping habit. Yikes. Sure is fun though!

    4. I was always a shopaholic,it's just that now I have something to focus on when spending money.

    5. Shopaholic...yes and no. I used to spend extensive amounts of money for my horse, and not only necessary, but also pretty items. Myself, I have pretty much zero interest in clothing or jewelry. But shoes...oh dear.

As both of my dolls are a bit difficult clothing-wise, I am always so very happy whenever I find items for them which are already in my country or within the EU, that I definitely take a closer look at them. Cheap is not so important, but that they fit their style.

As an example, I found a full Iplehouse suit at a very reasonable price. But I could not bring myself to buy it, as it was not Julian's style.

But if both requirements are applicable - yes, most likely I will try to get the stuff.

If I want something specific, then I search for it very concretely. For example, I wanted a well-fitting suit for Julian. As I could find nothing on the Iplehouse site, I took the plunge and ordered one from Freedom Teller. I know, lots of money, but for me definitely worth it. However, I did not absolutely like the shoes and the dress shirt, so I will make these by myself.

Thus I would not call myself a shopaholic. I have a weakness for a good bargain, but I have to like it. And I am willing to spend lots of money for good quality.

    6. Now I think in terms of hundreds instead of fives. Ugh. Otherwise, still panicky and frugal as ever.

Which is to say, not very.

    7. well, kinda.
before i got my dolls i didn't think soo much about clothes. but it's eventually really 'clothes make people'. so I'm not really addicted to buy sundry goods and clothes for me or for my dolls, but I do really pay alot more attention to style, as a way of expression. c:

    8. Not really. Been obsessed with online shopping ever since I drift away/procrastinate from school work.
AND I NEED A CURE COS NOW I shop for my clothes AND also for my dollfie =_=
      *le sigh* ==

    9. In the regards to fabric it probably has. xD

    10. OMG yes. :doh I always enjoyed strolling through stores, especially when I have money and can buy what I want. And I always had a thing for miniature things. But now I have to avoid going to Pat Catan's very often because I never come out without spending at least $100-$150. There's just so many miniature things there that can be good for bjd props. And I look for miniatures everywhere I go, it's not even a conscious thing anymore. :sweat

    11. Not yet either! ....but into a dreamaholic most certainly.

    12. Did owing BJDs turn you into a shopaholic? A big yes!!! Long story short, BJD world are overwhelming, I spent more on my doll(s) then on myself or family. SAD but true.

    13. Naw, I've always been a bit of a shop-a-holic. :P

    14. It does!! I cannot resist buying clothes for my doll.

    15. Yes, it is. I spend most of my saving for my dolls, shoes, wigs and fabric.
I am learning to sewing my dolly outfit and make the headband. As long I can spare a bit of money I will look for stuff for my dolls not my self. If that consider as shop-a-holic then I am

    16. its actually had the opposite affect on me. I stay logged into ebay, storenvy etsy, asos and all my other sites for clothing and i used to buy things every week. now with paying so much for doll things I actually save money more than I am spending it.
BUT i constantly look for new things for my doll i may not buy it right then but its more incentive to keep saving up

    17. yes and no? :? I found my fave and have gone hog wild the last few months. I am officially an Ipleholic. I laid in a small (ya right) wardrobe including minimal shoes (a first for me) and wigs. And now I am waiting on TWO dolls and EID and a JID. I still want an EID male and a YID too... thats just the basic dolls I want, not including all the sculpts for the guys. AND I am contemplating a 'spare' body (bear in mind I dont even have the original yet) for my guy O_o... Shopaholic? Me? Uh...... plead the 5th? (yes I know I am Canadian :P ).

    18. Yea, the day I got my boy, I spent $150 on clothes online. Having to stop myself from buying more right now, or else my rent and bill money would be gone haha!

    19. Yes and no. No in the way that I was a shopaholic beforehand (online shopping is a drug), and yes because before I purchased my BJD I would put a limit on how much I spent. Now that limit has been tossed out the window lol. Though I'm sure once I get the doll all the newness and excitement will have worn off, thus saving me much money! XD

    20. Here speaks one person who just lost most of her money on dollie shopping! :sweat It's kinda funny, I don't usually like shopping for clothes and stuff for myself, but for my dolls I can fairly easily empty my wallet in minutes xD
