1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did owning BJDs turn you into a shopaholic?

Apr 26, 2011

    1. Definitely. Especially if I'm saving for a doll so I shop for clothes or accessories or whatever before they arrive.it kinda a problem,lol.

    2. soooooo not contemplating extra body.... it's coming home :sweat and I still don't have the full doll yet... and NOW I am considering an LE YID Bianca on layaway. ... maybe... I can push this one right to the last day... If I were to get lucky and catch a split I wouldn't need to ... *wallet crosses fingers* (yes our wallets have fingers to cross check yours, I bet they are there lol) That being said IH went nuts with new 'fashion' items.... I don't need to get a doll to go broke....er. I just need to furnish my family with the items they need...

    3. No.
      I have always loved to buy dolls, all that is connected with the dolls and books, and all that is related to my hobbies.
      Things that were interesting to me earlier - are interesting now, I buy what I want and need, but I do not have dependence of buying something just as a fact of buying.

    4. No. I did buy and/or trade for a few lower end dolls but so far I've restrained myself when it comes to the accessories other than buying a couple of pairs of DIY eyes just to see how that would go, what I could do with them. I can make almost anything for my dolls if I try and I know that so I don't really see the point in going overboard for accessories. I don't have $35 to drop on a wig for ME let alone one of my dolls. I do like looking but most of it is priced so high I just can't rationalize actually going there. I'd rather save the money for dolls than spend it on something I can make.

    5. I had very good intentions when I started with bjd a year ago - this was going to be a CREATIVE hobby, for me to sew and craft things for! Well my slide into shopaholicism started with tiny SHOES :o Was there ever anything so cute? And I reasoned I can't possibly make them can I, so of course buy buy buy :fangirl:

      And so my naked dolls sat around in old socks and rags, wearing their lovely new shoes for many many months LOL - till I realised I actually HATE sewing dolls clothes and I actually LOVE to shop for my 'family' - the daughters I never had the chance to buy pretty frilly dresses for now exist, they're just small and made of resin! I love to spoil them and well yes I confess owning BJD has turned me into a shopaholic, but strangely a happy one - "I shop, therefore I am" :lol:

    6. Simple answer? No. I was a shopaholic before I got into BJDs. :)

    7. I love shopping and I love spend money. I work hard all the week to pay my bills and would be really frustrating if I couldn't buy things for my spare time too. However, I know that it's not all our money we can spend. I always save about 20% of my income for future plans (like travels or future classes)or emergencies, and a minimum for dolls/Lolita/books/other "immediate" hobbies I have and, since I don't like buying things in layaway and avoid anytime I can, I don't think it has made me a shopaholic. On the contrary, it made me think even more responsible about money because now I have one more (expensive) thing to sustain.

    8. Ball jointed dolls ... before them i never shopped for clothes unless i had to and i hated shoe shopping but .... owning dolls has turned me into a bjd shopaholic and i am obessed with bjd clothes and shoes XD

    9. It sure did. Normally I loathe shopping with a passion. I like to get in and get out as fast as possible (only exception being fabric and art supplies). Now if I'm shopping with a doll in mind, I enjoy the hunt for miniature things. Particularly around holidays. Or now that I've started making jewelry, I love peeking on the $2 clearance rack in the mall to find things I can take apart and use for dolls.

    10. Not BJD's per se, no. Just being a doll freak in general did that. Though since I've gotten the BJD's my scope has broadened a bit. I was in a store yet again today looking at infant shoes and comparing the size 1's from various brands and wondering if any of them would fit my Minimee bodies, lol. I've cut up old kid's clothes from the thrift store to make doll clothes before but looking at whole baby shoes for BJD boys? That's new...

    11. Nope. Was already a shopaholic. Just changed my target buying now.

    12. I'm afraid i've been a shopaholic since forever & ever ;-;

    13. I'm no shopaholic in regards to other things and don't consider myself to be a shopaholic in regards to BJDs either. While I do own a lot of dolls and I often expect things in the mail for any of them being a shopaholic implies a lot of behaviors I generally do not associate with myself... I usually plan my purchases in advance so I very rarely indulge myself in them randomly. It's more of a "x doll needs y item, so I need to save for it" rather than anything. On the other hand yes, I am buying a lot more things than I used to before entering the hobby.

    14. Well yes and no... I definitively have my bouts of shoppoholism, and some of my dolls here are testament of it. more than being the cause, they are the excuse. I have very little space, and it's full as it is (and getting fuller every day) That is why I allways ask myself if I really need that. Well if it's for my boys, who els is going to care for them, and come on, that little pot, or the nice jewlery case that has just the right sice as a prop, the boys need to eat, and what to do for their birthday, christmas?????

      Then add all my other hobbies to it, and you can imagen how things look. when crafting and sewing for yourselve is your main souce of happynes.......
      And lets not talk about the money.

    15. I've always been a shopaholic, with other figures and toys and whatever I am obsessed with at that time. Dolls just happen to be my next obsession. :)

    16. I have always liked shopping (though I hate crowds/busy stores), so BJD didn't turn me into a shopaholic, they just redefined what I shop for. Whereas it used to be CDs in high school and early college days, I spend less on those now and more on dolls and doll-related goods when I have any spending money.

    17. I have been a shopaholic ever since I got my first salary.. Getting into BJD's just changed my focus but in a 'dangerous' way, there's always something, be it dolls, fabric, yarn, clothes, wigs, sewing machine and God knows there's a lot more

    18. Yes indeed… So new world to me. Finding all the time new dolls, wigs, clothes, sewing machine (!) etc. Before this never bought anything from eBay for example.

    19. Yep, totally turned me into someone who buys a lot from a really big miser and cheapskate..all in the pursuit of making my girls all look as cute as I can. I'm trying this year to cut down a LOT now...but January hasn't been promising already <_<;
