Did you hate dolls?

May 15, 2010

    1. I have loved dolls for as long as I can remember. I've always been very girly so I guess that's why dolls have always been in my life. I had a TON of baby dolls as a child and then probably about 100 Barbies (I ended up giving all of those Barbies to my little cousin). Then after that I collected porcelain dolls- I had less than 10 or so but they were always displayed in my room even through high school.

When I got married and my husband and I built a house, my porcelain dolls went into a large tote and they are in the basement somewhere. I plan on displaying them in my daughter's room once she is old enough to take care of them (she's a wild and rambunctious 5 year old). I recently found BJDs and was worried my husband would think they were stupid but he supports my hobby :)

    2. Hey Posseskairi,

For me as a Kid We are opposite because I love dolls ever since my sister got her first doll. but as I grow So does my taste to doll before i like cutie patotie dolls now heck no I still collect dolls but I ended up looking them like a little manniquin I collect different kinds of head from different companies .

Pretty much still love doll but im more into realistic dolls not msd or yosds.

    3. I can't remember ever not loving dolls. If given money and turned loose in the toy section to choose what I wanted by an indulgent grandparent, I always picked a new doll. Although I only did so in my room, I played with my dolls up until I was about 14, which would have been considered horribly dweeby of me had I been caught doing so!

It was actually reclaiming some lost childhood favorites that got me into collecting dolls as an adult.

    4. I played with Barbie's as a kid and looovveddd my American Girl Molly. I played with my Molly doll all the time until the elastic snapped because I played with her all the time lol. Then, I saw a Tae Yang Edward Scissorhands doll in person and wasn't very fond of it. Got in BJDs then transitioned to DDs!

    5. I was VERY attached to dolls as a child. Played with them until I was 14, and tried playing with them again when I was 16 or 17... I was horribly disappointed that my imagination no longer worked the way it did as a child. Now I finally have a grownup version and couldn't be happier about that! :)

    6. I used to own tons of barbies and figures in the past so my family wasn't really surprised that I would own a bjd~

    7. Eeep *covers up my dollie's ears*

I have never hated dolls, not even those slightly creepy ventriloquist dolls!

    8. I didn't hate dolls, but I really wasn't very interested in them as a child. I got involved in bjd's because of a friend, who had heard of them through the internet and got one. First I didn't think they were that interesting, but the more I learned about the hobby the more interested I became, and finally got a doll myself. I have loved dolls ever since, and don't regret a thing :)

    9. While I didn't exactly hate dolls as a child, I just wasn't that interested in them. I much prefered my stuffed animals, trucks, playing army & most of all my plastic dinosaurs. (This was back in 50s & early 60s when dinos weren't as hot as they've been lately.) I did have a few dolls but seldom played with them except in conjunction with other toys. I played hospital one day & carefully stitched up my poor worn out skunk, then I cut the back of the head off on one of my dolls so I could do brain surgery.

As an adult I became interested in antique dolls & collected those for quite a few years until the prices sky rocketed. After that it was artist dolls then fashion dolls & finally BJDs. A friend bought a couple of hers to our fashion doll club & though I wasn't in love immediately, I still found them fascinating. I played around with her's for a year or so then decided I needed one of my own. One crazy night the urge was so strong I called Dolls & Friends & after talking to the poor sale's girl forever I placed my order for not 1 but 2 of these beauties. After all, just one would be lonely. Unfortunately that wonderful store is long gone but they had some of the best customer service anywhere.

    10. I loved playing with my barbies and my little ponies when I was a kid. Guess you never grow up from dolls :) (Only thing that "grow up" was the pricetag haha.)

    11. as male, I did collect plushies when I was kid back the I really scared with BJD or porcelain dolls ^^, barbie is fine as i also play with my older sister barbie stuff sometimes lol

    12. I loved teddy bears and dolls when I was a kid, and it didn't change over time! I doubt I'll ever hate them.

    13. As a child I used to love barbies. I played with them all the time and I liked them way better than those baby dolls ( BabyBorn and such). So when I got into BJDs they reminded me of Barbies, because of their mature looks. They were just way more beautiful. And by that time I already knew that sooner or later I'd buy a BJD

    14. I always loved dolls since I was really young (especially fashion dolls) . But I never played with them in fear of breaking them or something. Even right now aside from my resin dolls, I'm in love with monster high dolls.

    15. Never hated them, I loved them. I had a few Barbies and a Ken or two. My sister says we played for hours at a time, I have a bad memory, but I do remember the huge homemade Barbie house on the patio out back. My present for my 13th BD was an expensive doll and I still have her, she is 50 this year. No old Barbies though, we wore them out.:)

    16. As a child I used to love dolls, especially Barbies and Bratz. I had quite a few and always wanted more! Over time I did eventually "grew out" of them.

When I saw pictures of BJDs back when I was around 15ish, I actually did not like them at all. To me they were creepy and were not something I would ever think of getting. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I saw one again and thought she looked completely beautiful! After that I began to research them and just fell more and more in love with them that I decided to get one of my own!
Aside from Bjds, I'm also a huge fan of Monster High and Ever After High dolls.

    17. When I was little I loved them but I tended to mistreat them ... weird haircut , tattoos, heads torn ...
When I was teenager I interested in teddy bears
And at 26 years old I discovered Pullips and at 27 bdj and then I fell in love with a DOD Ducan (since I loosely abandoned him for other dolls ... )

    18. I was really wary of large dolls when I was younger, specifically porcelain ones. I had tons of fashion doll toys though. It wasn't until I received my first BJD that I began to warm up to big dolls and even porcelain dolls. Now I have way waaay too many

    19. I kinda liked dolls when I was a little kid. I fell in love with them when I was 13. Now I adore most of them, beside reborns and puppets. These creep me out a big time.

    20. I was always into Bratz dolls and barbie dolls and all those kinds, but my mom has a bunch of those old dusty creepy looking porcelain dolls...i never liked them and i never will... I've had too many bad experiences with them.
